When the Russians create the Kirov Ballet, or when Cuba creates Ballet Nacional de Cuba we don't say "Ballet with Russiun influence OR Rusian and Cuban dance..." we just call it Contempory dance or ballet. If only our minds would evolve out of the boxes of what ballet or contemporary dance is. Perhaps we could give the Continent, Countries, Nations, & Tribes of Africa a little RESPECT

Fun Fact:Ballet was created by from peasant folk dances.
Loved them all. Particularly the last dancer. Caught more of the African dance vibe, but I do love the fact that they're all trained dancers first and foremost and for this type presentation they all did a great job at the auditions.
Africa abounds in quality contemporary and traditional dance talents. It is worthy of note for non-Africans to know that many of the traditional dances that most of these dances takes inspiration from, imitates animals and human behaviors and daily movements. For artistic reasons, these movements are appropriate for the genre at which the auditions were held.
I thought most of these guys seemed like classically trained dancers, rather than dancers trained in African styles of dance. I hadn't considered the idea that the apparent infusion of classical elements might be deliberate.
Just cross your arms and stomp your feet and repeat this after me, "I don't care if I look foolish, or like I'm only five years old. I still want to learn!"
Well, after I watched for a while and all of them moved like that, I figured that they were dancing like how animals move. I'm still not overly fond of this style, but number one was the best though, I think.
Nobody yell at me please, but I don't really like this style of dancing. It, to me, seems like animals and gorillas moving and dancing. But that's only my opinion.
Dancers who have been classically trained are used to dealing with a certain way of moving. They become accustomed to a particular physical vocabulary. It can be hard to break out of this habit, after using it for many years. That head held high, elongated neck, and posture erect stance so very highly stressed in classical training is evident in many of these dancers. #5 & #11 seemed to get the African sense of movement most accurately.
5,6 and 8 r the best performers so far.its beautiful to see how our bodies can speak for themselves, in dancing an african beat!

Right. It's definitely African inspired contemporary dance. It looks pretty good. I wish I could dance like that. :)

One can always learn. It is only our sense of inhibition that stops us.:)

I think thats what they are going for. Many of the inspirations of dancing came from animals or something non-human.

Regardless, I liked the vibe of dancer #1 and #8. The others were good as well because they showed their technique which is very important.
