This poem helped so much when I was going through a really bad bout with depression. I'm in a much better place now and feel I owe a thanks to Henry for this one.
I've showed too of my friends this. One of which, I''m marrying soon. Even though, I am immensely happy now, and have hope (even though I dropped out of school) I wrote some of my best poetry, being inspired by this song. I'm going to end this on, just remember. There is always a way-out. Maybe it's not God. Maybe it's not love. Maybe, it's you're favorite tv show. Just, try people. Amazing stuff can happen with depression. In the end, it's rarely worth it,
Hate is a natural emotion that no one can avoid. Seeing some of the comments on here that speak against this piece just shows you how some people will never understand what its like to feel discarded from normal means of human interactions. And why? Why would you ridicule something that stands for everyone who feels like the world revolves around everyone else but them? It seems like people hear the word HATE and automatically think its evil. We are all capable of hate but it doesnt make us evi
@Glennfaw Depression is what come after the hate leaves you. When your hate is all that carries you through life for years subsides, nothing is left. Hate burns a hole into you that nothing can fill. Depression is what starts to fill the hole but even that is not enough to make you feel even close to normal. In the end death comes as one of the last options. Once the thoughts of it enter your head they never go away with out help. They only gain in strength and power over you.
This nearly 6 minutes of words saved my life when I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone who struggles through tough years of adolescence, should listen to this. Like someone else said, if it were not for this, I would not be here today, graduating college and a great group of family and friends. To those filled with hate and sadness, its a struggle but it makes you stronger and better person in the end, don't let others keep you down.
I blame school bullies for being a huge part of the reason people listen to this and feel it speak to them. I blame them for being a huge part of the reason why we have problems in society, 'caused by people who never really socially and mentally developed because they learned to avoid people, and hate people. And because of people like that, we end up with even more victims in society all due to some peice of trash school bully who was threatened by and exploited the weakness of the innocent
I can empathize with you, but I feel that blame is on our society before the bully himself. Society tells us to shun and hate the abnormal, and/or anything we don't understand. We're told to keep our peers in line with words first, and violence if words do not work.
The bully is a pawn in a game. Society tells us that you can't cry because no one must ever see a man cry, if they do then you too must insult that man and tell him he is a lesser being for having done so. Fuck society.
Whoever likes this would probably enjoy the spoken word CD "Nights Behind the Tree Line", which is Henry reading selected passages from his books "Solipsist" and "Roomanitarian".
I think Henry Rollins just saw what was coming. The day when people would rather talk in impersonal texts and emails than face to face. We live in a world of billions of people, and yet we still force isolation on each other. I'd like to see a day when people stop self-inverting and start acknowledging their fellow humans, but I'm just as guilty of apathy as anyone else.
I can really relate to this. The pain of rejection, the way other people's lives seem to just work out. The pain of isolation. What he said about weekend nights really nails it.
I wonder, was Rollins writing this to himself? To a friend, or someone that he met? Or to all of us?

I have listened to this song/spoken word for years. I even sent it to a college professor I respect. I am I know you as I know a lot of you are. Its beautiful to have "A warm place"
One of the finest bits Henry's ever put out. When I first heard this, I was like "Finally! Someone who understands me!" I was actually out of college by this time, and wished I had heard this in high school, to know I wasn't truely alone.
Nice. I love Rollins and Nine Inch Nails. Although like most artists I'm fans of, don't like each other. Or at least they never used to. Don't know about now. Both have changed it seems.
Please keep this video up for a while. It's embeded in my online profile as a paralell for my own life. It describes me to people much more accurately than I ever could in my own words. Thanks
I've no plan to take it down, it's a deep song that so many people can relate to. Add the addition of 'warm place' in the background just gives it a little something extra
Enjoy your autism.

One of the finest bits Henry's ever put out. When I first heard this, I was like "Finally! Someone who understands me!" I was actually out of college by this time, and wished I had heard this in high school, to know I wasn't truely alone.

I haven't heard this since I was in highschool 8 years ago! It still pangs the heart, but not like it did while I was living in it in that hellhole.
It's amazing how many people know the exact same feeling. Maybe we're not all so different after all...

This is a fantastic video! I have never heard this mix, but the two tracks mix so perfectly, in my opinion!
BTW, I have put it up in my video log; let me know if you want me to take it down, and I will.
