  • Enjoy your autism.

  • Goddamit Rollins! Don't make a grown man cry!

  • This just put me into a cold sweat. Fantastic.

  • This poem helped so much when I was going through a really bad bout with depression. I'm in a much better place now and feel I owe a thanks to Henry for this one.

  • I've showed too of my friends this. One of which, I''m marrying soon. Even though, I am immensely happy now, and have hope (even though I dropped out of school) I wrote some of my best poetry, being inspired by this song. I'm going to end this on, just remember. There is always a way-out. Maybe it's not God. Maybe it's not love. Maybe, it's you're favorite tv show. Just, try people. Amazing stuff can happen with depression. In the end, it's rarely worth it,

  • Hate pure as sunshine

  • This is my favorite poem by Henry Rollins. Very touching, and very close to my childhood.

  • he's talking about you!

  • @Emhilradim at least you get it, thumbs up

  • How can anyone "dislike" this???

  • Hate is a natural emotion that no one can avoid. Seeing some of the comments on here that speak against this piece just shows you how some people will never understand what its like to feel discarded from normal means of human interactions. And why? Why would you ridicule something that stands for everyone who feels like the world revolves around everyone else but them? It seems like people hear the word HATE and automatically think its evil. We are all capable of hate but it doesnt make us evi

  • forever alone.

  • Comes a time that the hate can't carry you any further... what then?

  • @Glennfaw Depression is what come after the hate leaves you. When your hate is all that carries you through life for years subsides, nothing is left. Hate burns a hole into you that nothing can fill. Depression is what starts to fill the hole but even that is not enough to make you feel even close to normal. In the end death comes as one of the last options. Once the thoughts of it enter your head they never go away with out help. They only gain in strength and power over you.

  • @Zundae Great comment. Almost as powerful as the vid itself.

  • This nearly 6 minutes of words saved my life when I thought there was no light at the end of the tunnel. Anyone who struggles through tough years of adolescence, should listen to this. Like someone else said, if it were not for this, I would not be here today, graduating college and a great group of family and friends. To those filled with hate and sadness, its a struggle but it makes you stronger and better person in the end, don't let others keep you down.

  • I blame school bullies for being a huge part of the reason people listen to this and feel it speak to them. I blame them for being a huge part of the reason why we have problems in society, 'caused by people who never really socially and mentally developed because they learned to avoid people, and hate people. And because of people like that, we end up with even more victims in society all due to some peice of trash school bully who was threatened by and exploited the weakness of the innocent

  • @berner

I can empathize with you, but I feel that blame is on our society before the bully himself. Society tells us to shun and hate the abnormal, and/or anything we don't understand. We're told to keep our peers in line with words first, and violence if words do not work.

The bully is a pawn in a game. Society tells us that you can't cry because no one must ever see a man cry, if they do then you too must insult that man and tell him he is a lesser being for having done so. Fuck society.

  • @Emhilradim at least you get it, thumbs up:D Society fucks a person up good..and when they react they are suddenly to blame..

  • @AnusMcFeggot you

  • Has Henry made more videos like this one?

  • this video= my middle school life

  • if it wasnt for this poem i would not be here

  • i remember you mongoloid

    main tain ca-ca stain.

    eat your buff boloney

  • damn

  • STOP IT!!!! Stop reading my MIND already!!!!!

  • Ironic mash up, since Henry Rollins hates Nine Inch Nails

  • Whoever likes this would probably enjoy the spoken word CD "Nights Behind the Tree Line", which is Henry reading selected passages from his books "Solipsist" and "Roomanitarian".

  • if you can here from a bawwww thread. Then you're home.

  • @kindacrazyguy sure did

  • This made me cry.

  • @bleedthefifth1088 faggot!

  • @leftfordead02 Henry Rollins would fucking hate you.

  • 3 people couldn't handle the truth.

  • I think Henry Rollins just saw what was coming. The day when people would rather talk in impersonal texts and emails than face to face. We live in a world of billions of people, and yet we still force isolation on each other. I'd like to see a day when people stop self-inverting and start acknowledging their fellow humans, but I'm just as guilty of apathy as anyone else.

  • @edgeleader No, this is not what it is about.

  • please never take this down, henry is my idol. the way he speaks when reading "i know you" is indescribable

  • I can really relate to this. The pain of rejection, the way other people's lives seem to just work out. The pain of isolation. What he said about weekend nights really nails it.

I wonder, was Rollins writing this to himself? To a friend, or someone that he met? Or to all of us?

  • This poem is my life!!!!<3

  • I just balled like a baby; felt good. I've been alone like this for a long time...

  • The irony behind this is that Henry Rollins explains how alone you feel, yet everyone that comments on this explains that they feel exactly this way, and Henry is describing them accurately, which means we are all have a lot in common. That being said, Henry Rollins knows me FAR too well.

  • this is fantastic. :]

  • fuck all the negative comments i was a hair metal band fan and happen to stumble upon mr. rollins in my teenage years and this "speech" and its fucking awesome. period . end of sentence he will always be el guardo camino ;p

  • YA RIGHT

  • I wish people wouldn't fight and argue on here all the time, Enjoying this great speech means a lot of us have something in common. You don't have to think you know it all coz no one know more about someone than that person themself

  • he sure does know me...

  • Cuts right to the core. Describes me to a t. I don't think anyone else feels this way but apparently they do. Rollins is one of my favorite artists ever.

  • He's saying you're not alone people. Though we all felt like it at the time, or maybe now.

    You're not alone....

  • He knows me well.

  • spent my teenage years alone and isolated, i've been struggling to get into life ever since. i used to enjoy my solitude but not any more

  • Do someone know more "music" of this type.. or similar..

I like to listen to his before I sleep

  • The ambient works of Brian Eno, and the soundscapes of Robert Fripp. Try 'em, you'll never regret it.

Also you can try Dead Can Dance.

  • @Carlosmr1984

actually its on an earlier album circa 91 lifes box or i cant think of it but still fucking awesome...black coffee blues is a book by him :)

  • @pica624 Boxed Life is the album. Art To Choke Hearts is some of his best stuff. See a Grown Man Cry is really good too.

  • @FCule Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb, If you like that I know a few more.

  • Well. Seems as though I'm not as alone as I thought. Thanks Henry.

  • You're not alone, man.

  • Whatsthe stroy behind this, Rollins just took the song and wrote it ? or did someone put this together ?

  • It's a mix. The original spoken word thing is from Henry, from the "Black Coffee Blues" spoken word album.

  • one of the most simple but effective (and thus beautiful) "poems" I know.

  • This would have been better if William Shatner was doing the voice over.

  • pixy stix sound good!! think i shall eat some!

  • i think ill slit my wrists

  • I dont think u will...cause if i didnt have you i would prolly od on some pixie stix...lol 8

  • it hit home im so blinded by hate

  • Incredible video, the song compliments it so well. You did an amazing job. Rollins is a hero of mine, we need more like him...

  • Anthony?

  • Richard?!

  • ANTHONY!!!!

  • RICHARD!!!!!

  • moving, emotional, touching, hit close to home, tearful, made me think, feel, realize..a wonderful video!.thanks for posting :)

  • most enjoyed!

  • you're an idiot. Not everyone dies in the army. Fighting has served only to gain since the beginning of time. There isn't nor will there ever be a single moment of peace anywhere on earth. With humans or animals. It is natural. You wouldn't know if death is painful bitch you're alive. The only ones who know are the dead, but they can't really tell us now can they.

  • story of my life ..... 2 years ago till i changed it now im a soldier serving my country and strengthing myself

  • Many people feel like it. My advice to you, is to fight these feelings. Fight them, or deal with them in any way possible. Do not let them get the best of you.

    From an

  • Think the big! You're but one tiny speck in OUR home, you're part of us- I'm part of you- we're part of everything! but people think small because they are but a small speck in earth- who says that? You're the only one who can decide but always keep the positive mentality.

  • Understanding is hard to come by. The few who know are the ones I've sought. They rarely exist. I'd like to think that Friedrich Hayek would have been a friend, but there was previously so much disconnect that I never met him. Not like the new connected, beautiful world, advancing faster, machines getting smarter, new life blooming everywhere, smarter babies, more sex, safer drugs, less government, less coercion, more competition

  • although completely unrelated, the lyrics seem to have been written, unknowingly, for Trent's instrumental. nice combination. both are somewhat melancholy in themselves, but the combination makes them strangely uplifting.

  • you did this on window movie maker? i do one title and the thing crashes and you do a whole movie with nothing but titles! amazing!

  • OILERGEORGE:

That's the best comment I've read on youtube, you even added some value to the clip itself.

  • Thanks, man !! :D

I guess I just had a moment of clarity inspired by Henry's truisms.

  • Story of my life...

  • To the 1,000 yard stare: Stand down. Stay your weapon soldier. Some of us DO know your pain. You're not alone. All of these things pass away, as do we, on this temporary plane of existence. Let them laugh, let their words hang in the air unchallenged. Let them show their true selves for all to see. Let them hear themselves, and how ugly they can be. Search the crowd when the laughter dies for another pair of unblinking eyes. And then, my FRIEND you will find me. : )

  • I'm quoting you on facebook if that's okay.

  • That's cool with me, it was just some random top-of-the-head stuff I spewed forth. Just hope it helps someone rethink some sort of drastic action they might be plotting like this song does. All my friends are crazy beautiful weirdos like me. We identify with Henry identifying with us. People need to know they're not alone. It never hurts to reach out to someone who's feeling misunderstood, sometimes just talking can help them see their self worth & amazing potential. I'm living proof... : P

  • Whoever feels identified with this, is my brother and sister...

  • i like that solitude line at the end, very meaningful and rollins is def not emo

  • henry helped me more often than most of my closest friends, like i have some,... lol cheers henry

  • Henry is very sneaky :) He felt that way [isolated, lonely], he thought : all humans are the same creatures so they feel the same [at least sometimes or propably] ;) he made a piece that everyone can relate to :) 4:50 he's saying : ...maybe they do know, but they're hiding it. sure rest of people do know. because you think they feel different - they feel the same. lonely sometimes when they're alone. and maybe you're the one that hides it as well in front others ;)

  • henry rollins is the most non emo person I know, emo kids think pain is cool, henry just trys tries to get it out of the way to overcome it, you are the one who is bullshit you stupid cunt.

  • Rollins is the Real Deal!!!

  • the youth choir at one of the middle schools near me performed this for an anti-bullying summit that i mentored at

    it was amazing

  • losers eh...

    You sure about that

  • this describes my life a lot. I think it describes a lot of people who "don't fit in"

  • someone interpret meaning feeling closer to ppl on movie screens plz.

this is true. This message needs to go out to everyone, ppl who put down others shud understand wat someone rollins explains is going through

  • This is awesome

  • This blew my mind. You pretty much summed up my life thus far.

  • Amazing.

  • your confused and slightly bothered because your probably just not that bright to begin with

  • Fuck.

    Ok, that's me. I admit.

  • I must actualllly..admit I might kinda know this person kinda well to..100% beutiFUL! !!

  • hey!! Henry made a poem about me!! thats all about me !! how did he know me?? Henry must be God!!!

  • ^This person is too insecure to admit it

  • Thank you for knowing me so well...

  • THX Henry... for this Masterpiece...

  • anyone knows the background history behind this ?

  • Also weather there is any other NIN/HR collaberations?

  • This poem is me!

    Thank you for posting.

  • oh..my..god hit way too close to home

  • Mr. Rollins, you shall forever rock!!!!

I miss watching you on MTV, ranting like I know I wanted to, back when there was something good on that piece of shit channel.

    Keep it up dude.

  • Thanks for posting this, simply beautiful.

  • Brokyne thank you for posting this piece. has deffinatly been one of my favorite rollins excerpts for a long time now.

  • henry rollins is amazing

his poem here realy revieled who i am

it made me cry to listen to this

even though it made me feel so bad inside

    it made me feel better

and its amazing to hear someone

    like henrey rollins

who had his black flag, hardcore days

yet he has enough strength to touch on such a sentimental subject.

im only in 8th grade and henrey rollins is my idol now...

  • well being so young im happy in the fact that you can find comfort in these words like have. i respect the fact that rollins talks about finding strength in yourself for survival. he can bring up the deepest and honest sadness without sounding or feeling "emo" and in the same sentence guide you on how to turn it into a lesson learned and how to stand up proud and strong.

painright being in 8th grade your still very young...but never alone buddy.

  • I wish i discovered Henry Rollins in the 8th grade! With him as hero you're already on your way to scucess.

  • I have listened to this song/spoken word for years. I even sent it to a college professor I respect. I am I know you as I know a lot of you are. Its beautiful to have "A warm place"

  • that was a really nice comment)

I never thought of it that way before

  • BROKYNE I love you like most wont. Thank you for being you... one of the few that relate to this.

  • This is really crazy!!

I can relate so much..but then

    again I think everyone can

  • One of the finest bits Henry's ever put out. When I first heard this, I was like "Finally! Someone who understands me!" I was actually out of college by this time, and wished I had heard this in high school, to know I wasn't truely alone.

  • u want to hug this man

  • I've listened to this so many times over the past two hours...

  • I haven't heard this since I was in highschool 8 years ago! It still pangs the heart, but not like it did while I was living in it in that hellhole.

It's amazing how many people know the exact same feeling. Maybe we're not all so different after all...

  • Nice. I love Rollins and Nine Inch Nails. Although like most artists I'm fans of, don't like each other. Or at least they never used to. Don't know about now. Both have changed it seems.

  • no words :| that describes me so much ... rally .. i have no words :|

  • Please keep this video up for a while. It's embeded in my online profile as a paralell for my own life. It describes me to people much more accurately than I ever could in my own words. Thanks

    -Renzokuken

  • I've no plan to take it down, it's a deep song that so many people can relate to. Add the addition of 'warm place' in the background just gives it a little something extra

  • Damn right it does. Good work.

  • WOW x2

  • wow

  • very very nice !5 stars

  • This is a fantastic video! I have never heard this mix, but the two tracks mix so perfectly, in my opinion!

BTW, I have put it up in my video log; let me know if you want me to take it down, and I will.

  • i like your work......you should do more of this.

    good job!

  • The music fits perefectly. Thanks a lot.

  • Amen!
