This looks great guys. I certainly plan on getting a copy! I've always been a big fan of your work, and it will be nice to see your interpretations organized in pedagogical order.
Hi, I'm really looking forward to the release of the DVD later this year. It's definately a must for all sword and buckler fans.... Could you tell me where you got the swords that you are using ? they look very well balanced, I have always liked that sharply tapering cut and thust style blade.
Re; music. In Toulouse, France, we prefer to keep our distance as well from reenactment and artistic fencing as well. Time to see HEMA as every other martial art.
re Clothing. I am in favour of not using period clothing, for you add another discussion to the whole. and is the costume of other martial arts as well historical correct? What about protection?
I can't wait to see the DVD...I can't wait to get the living daylights beat out off me by Mr Warzecha or Mr Wenzel.
OOC, have you ever worked through your techniques in historic costume? I do not ask as a criticism, or say that the DVD should be in historic clothes; but after the insight that you brought with the rainguard/ hand protection video, I was hoping that you might have some revelations about choices in system that were based on on the clothes of the day.
We are quite familiar with fighting in period kit as we have been active in re-enactment for years.
But the most relevant factors to determine whether you fight with a forward lean (medieval) or erect and weapons separated (e.g. Paulus Kal) is blade length. We cover this issue on the DVD in detail.
@warzechas Thanks Roland. It's a time period I don't know well, so I am unfamiliar with what all factors influenced the system, but have always liked the new information that you have brought out. I look forward to getting the DVD.
Correct. At the moment we do not want to be confused with re-enactors or show fighters at medieval markets. There are too many unauthentic fighting demonstrations at such events. We think that our kit helps to keep the focus on the actual martial arts for on-lookers. Living history is not our main interest. Though I would like to emphasize that we very much appreciate re-enactors picking up historical martial arts and do according demonstrations at their events.
Matter of taste regarding the music. Love this one, but can't stand sword fight clips with ren-fair tootling or macho metal. But who cares as long as the combat rocks!
Ist das jetzt für das Video so gepost oder ist Schaufechten generell so?

"Mittelalterlicher Kampf mit Schwert & Schild" is the German language version.
The English one is called:
"Sword and shield – Basic principles and technique of medieval buckler combat"
You can order via Amazon.de

@thomasbaagaard
If amazon.de does not work for you, then I would simply send an e-mail with your order to dembach.de (that's the producing company).
The DVD may also soon be available via albion-europe.

Re. music: One thing that Toke and I absolutely agree upon: No medieval costume, no medieval music.
Happy you like the performance, thank you.

@warzechas i see. interesting, you wanna make the demo without medieval style. it's a good way also. thanks for the answer :)

@warzechas to distinguish from other groups who play dress ups? To emphasise the sport of the activity? I am curious about your motivation.
My offsider completely agrees with you, btw.

The music, during the fight, kinda ruined it for me.
Looked nice, once I muted it.
