Well I'd consider this an R&B oldie, not rap and hip hop. All hip hop ain't bad depending on what they rap about. Sure the language is wild but you got to grasp the real message being sent out. Awesome song, terrific movie.
You'd have to have been there. Doesn't matter how many times you go, the not knowing will nearly suffocate you, if you let it. Getting out the door to the transport, early in the morning while the house sleeps, slipping away so you don't have to go through the goodbyes. All that after the tumult of the last night in the mess ... I can barely hear this song ....
music these days is pathetic ,,, we have lost the idea of all the good things in life that used to be magic,,,, every1 has become upsest with celebritys and rap /hip hop bullshit !!! we need a revalution
Llore con esa pelicula sobre todo cuando matan al que sale al inicio del video, el que tenia una pulserita de su hija recien nacida. Tremenda pelicula.
@thechinadesk Mel Carter made this song before the Vietnam War . The producer just happened to use it in the movie. If your interested, there's a video of Mel Carter singing this song on YouTube.
I know what it's like to be in the situation of the the Colonel and it is a song of the era that would have been played before any unit departs from their loved ones to leave to go into battle. It reflects the love the soldiers have for their sopouses. See the movie and you will understand more. Today it would more likely be a rap or hip hop song or any of the other varieties of music today
mel carter was the man who sang this

As a husband and Soldier, I can sit through the battle scenes and not blink an eye, but this scene is very hard to watch.

It's not Mel Carter it's performed by Tommy Blaize
ibchillin661133 3 years ago
Dear ibchillin,
Do you know when Mr. Blaize sang the song?
Was it commissioned especially for the movie? Or had it already been recorded and simply used in the movie?
I'm linking to it and would like to list the info in the credits.
Thanks in advance.

I highly doubt it would be a rap song. Maybe a heavy metal song or something (as so my Marine friends tell me).
