Yes, but there is also a multipication factor because the area at the bottom is greater than the area at the top (like a hydraulic press). If you google hyperphysics pascal's principle it brings up a better explanation plus a seperate video clip. It's where I got the idea from.
@yerrahyouknow i thought that happened because the water in the bottom of the bottle accelerates to the top of the bottle creating a massive vacuum bracking the bottom..........i know this because if you do this with carbonized water or soda it wont break because the gas would fill the vacuum space every time................i believe there's even a time warp episode in discovery channel about this
Pretty close to the top, but I'm not sure how important this is. It also works if the top is not on. I'm not sure what the critical parameters are. I can only get it to work with a mallet with a rubber head.
haha, so this explanes why some of my glass coke bottles break when i open them on a table or bench or somthing and hit it on the top...haha
