The major difference between the flumpet and trumpet is actually different from that of the trumpet and typical flugelhorn...Dave has managed to somehow increase the particulars that help to produce the sound, but at the same time making the partials in the upper register farther apart, therefore allowing the horn to have every note produced to the maximum that the player can make....every note is spot on dead center and easier to play....and it is way more flexible than the typical flugelhorn..

It's not a trumpet actually.. it's a flumpet, which is designed as trumpet-bugle/flugelhorn hybrid..
Which results in a strange instrument that has some Cornet influences as well..

@jazztrmpr94 Yeah, you can get a nice fluffy sound by taking of the pressure a bit. Heard it called a half embouchure.
