olberman is a master of the obvious.keith has spent too long sniffing jock straps and admiring himself in the mirror to have a objective opinion for his 'special comment'.
keith I have a special comment: you're a douche bag! you are a embarassment to journalist (like Mathews) who if they are liberal at least accomplish their job with some objectivity. olbermann's viewers need to get their aluminum hats resized and open the windows for some fresh air- he is a buffoon's buffoon and nothing more.
You watch "Countdown with Keith Uberwoman" on PMSNBC? Wow, how does it feel to be among the DOZEN or so (It's not "millions" if the truth were to be told.) viewers of that joke of a show?
Your vote for Libertarian Presidential candidate Bob Barr is guaranteed to improve America's future! If he gets at least 5% of the popular vote in this year's election, his party's Presidential campaign in 2012 can receive millions of dollars in voluntary taxpayer funds. It will also automatically qualify to be on state ballots, thereby avoiding long and costly signature petition drives. So do the 'most patriotic good' with your vote, help America build a 3rd major political party!!!
I'm too liberal for Bob Barr, and too independent for anyone on the left.
So, my coin says:
heads = Barr;
tails = a write in vote for Ron Paul.
But just because Paul is a republican, it's not as backwards as it seems.
I'd like to see more domestic-social concern in the Liberterian phillosophy. More of a "He ain't heavy, pa, he's my brother" kind of disposition, because, ultimately, we will sink or swim together.
And unless anybody can tell me different, that's the way it's going to stay.
Social concern could, and should, be part of any philosophy. It's just that classical liberals/libertarians believe in the seperation of state and society, the idea that people can organize and feel a sense of community without the often pernicious influence of the state. After all, haven't human communities flourished for thousands of years (and still do) without an all-powerful government?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
The only reason Olbermann has Barr on is that Barr is a spoiler. Barr is inadvertently helping Obama and burning all bridges to old conservative friends. Funny thing is Barr doesn't seem to know that he's being used by Obama's people.
Being used by Obama's people? How? If anything he'd be stealing votes FROM Obama and HELPING McCain. Just as Perot did with dubya's daddy back in the 90's cause he got pissed about and lost $ in the S&L bullshit.
Wrong - Barr's potential voters were likelier to be ardent conservatives, not liberals. Therefore, Barr had the potential to steal votes from McCain and HELP Obama get the win. Nader did a similar thing to Kerry in 2004.
As did Perot from Bush Sr and so on and so on....but is that really the objective of the Libertarian Party? Should it be to help get the lesser of 2 evils into office? Or to get someone into offic who REALLY shake things up? & more respect goes to W than McBama...at least W was upfront about screwing us! McBama will do it & try to mask it as "change"...change IS coming folks but no neccessarily the kind that everyone wants...but it's OK cause they can always say these problems were inherited!!!
Most libertarians are much more conservative than so called conservative republicans. I agree with your statement although i find it unfortunate. Many people who call themselves conservative republicans would do themselves justice by voting libertarian in my opinion due to the fact that the majority of so called conservative republicans have lost their way entirely.
Bob Barr has forgotten more about civics then olbermann could ever hope to know. Keith Olbermann should go back to doing something he knows about like holding towels and sniffing jock straps in the locker room for ESPN
I support you completely Barr, but my fear is that when Bush leaves, then Cheney moves up, and dear god thats a scary thought. People shooting other people in the face with shotguns everywhere.
Exactly...how about three buildings falling because of two planes? Hey, I live in Las Vegas. I've seen MANY implosions here. Those buildings fell the same way. Duh...perfect implosion.
Wow, agreed! I thought i was the only person that hated Keith Overbite, apparently I'm not alone. He's an anti-Republican, biased, cocksucking, dumbass faggot. I rather watch a Hannity interview with Barr then a Keith Overbite interview. And believe me, it would not be fucking enjoyable.
I'm extremely upset that in the State of Illinois that I am not even given a chance to vote for a Libertarian or Constitutionalist party candidate since they will not be included on the ticket here......can someone please confirm or deny this....
If it is true, it is a pure disgrace. I would rally a violent protest party if I were you. I suggest violent because our RIGHTS are at stake. I seriously doubt the the state if Ill would give a rats ass if a few Bob Barr supporters are peacefully out front chanting rehearsed slogans and waving picket signs. We need to show the government we are serious and we want recognition!
that's so ignorant - bob barr would want only to remain faithful to what the constitution allows in speaking out against the current administration. the constitution allows for peaceable assembly, not emotional violence. i'd love to know what kind of violence you think is appropriate and why you think it would make the party more credible.
Our founding fathers fought with guns and swords to build this country. They suffered, killed and died so we could have the BEST country in the world! The constitution actually demands that we rise up and overthrow a corrupt government and instill a better one! 2nd Amendment HELLOOO!!!

I wholeheartedly agree!! I just wish the guy could get some airplay so people would realize there is an actual decent choice to the joke our two party system has become. I'm so frustrated...
Unfortunately, we live in a USA where the average American only knows Left or Right, not center. Both Democrats and Neo-Republicans have failed us, we are loosing our rights, and loosing our respect amongst the world. Congressmen and other elected officials are in the pockets of huge corporations, not the average American! We NEED to put the power back in the people! Less Government! Lower Taxes! Less Entitlement programs, and no more BI-Partisanship! BAR 08!!!!!
its a shame that most of the candidates that make common sense statements like Barr and Paul are completely ignored. Their are more than 2 candidates and I still don't see why they have no word in edgewise aside from talk radio...let em' deabate.
The mainstream media (both Liberal and Conservative) are to blame for not including third party coverage. Most people don't even take Barr seriously, which is odd because he has the best policies by FAR. Most people view third party as a "Vote Stealer" from the mainstream candidates...
I hate Obama, but I would rather see my republican votes split and lose the election then fuel the broken system we call bi-partisanship.
Vote Barr 08', Bring much needed REAL change to America
A true patriot you are then. Let the sheeps and tools continue to fuel the broken system we call Bi-Partisanship. Let them continue to vote for candidates that want to take away our freedoms and spit on constitution and everything it stands for. Let them keep electing candidates that will continue to disappoint them. It doesn't matter to me, my judgment will rest easy in the end of the day, knowing I wasn't one of these people.
(1) Harry Browne was the best libertarian his book why gov doesnt work should be must reading for all americans liberal and conservative.
(2) Barr at least has name recgonition.
(3) THe government that governs least governs best so it is best to vote libertarian if Barr can get 3-4% in the election that would be huge no libertarian has gotten more than 1%
Yes, Bush is a disaster and a terrible president. But the Dems in congress have had numerous opportunities to stand up to him and make their case, but they always back down. Dems are just as bad as the GOP; both are beholden to their own special interests and both only care about holding their seats.
BOB BARR 08! All Ron Paul supporters should switch and vote Libertarian, as Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian in 1988. Send the dems and the reps a message! no more!
The Libertarian Party doesn't necessarily reflect all libertarian views. Bob Barr's record as a congressman ran contrary to most things libertarians stand for, so his sudden "conversion" has us wary. Barr is better than Obama/McCain, but that isn't saying much. It's not just a matter of Ron Paul supporters joining the bandwagon simply because he's under the Libertarian banner. We want someone that actually believes those ideas, and Barr hasn't yet proven that he does.
I think voting for Barr is totally necessary. I do not want to write in Ron Paul because he is not a candidate. I want my vote to count for something, and to boost a legitimate party into the system. I know Barr is not the ideal candidate, but he has expressed disapproval and regret regarding his votes for Iraq War, Patriot Act, and so on.
He was duped by Bush on the first two, who promised limited power but took all he was given and more. Barr and the LP needs RP supporters.
Voting for something you don't believe in is truly throwing your vote away. Voting for someone you know doesn't have a chance to win but you support nonetheless is a vote for a change from the status quo. Whether Barr wins or not doesn't matter, what matters is that McBush or Obama will see the support Barr receives and get the point -- we want a smaller government and more freedom. We don't want the government telling us how to live our lives. Vote for Barr and truly make a difference.
I don't care if Bob Barr is only 3% in the polls. I wouldn't care if he were .00000000001% in the polls. He has my vote. Ron Paul said it best when referring to Obama. "Change is nothing but a word when you can't back up how you are going to bring about it." American's keep saying, 'change' this, 'change' that. What better way to bring true change than to NOT vote the republican/democrat status quo and vote third party. Seriously if not Barr, vote Nader before you vote for McSame or Obama.
Baron Pierre de Coubertin was right. What matters is not the winning but the taking part. Barr is the only true Olympian in this race. Two others are just trying to win at all costs.
All for third parties, just not this guy. I looked into him after Paul dropped out, but don't like what I found. He voted FOR the Patriot act and FOR the war. The reason I liked Paul wasn't just because I tended to agree with him most of the time, but because he made his decisions based on well defined principles. What are this guys principles??
Kashmir, I agree with you. I use to HATE Barr but I realize now he has awakened like the rest of us! I am not trying to get your vote. Just letting you know my situation. Peace and NO MCBAMA 2008!
If this happens you'll be electing MCBush which will effectivly be giving Bush/Chaney and the Oil Companies a 3rd term--and more time to continue ripping off the middle class in this country
George and Dick are guilty of war crimes and most definately Treason. They should pay for what they have done and we the people should make sure the next president is NOT another NEW WORLD ORDER puppet.
I agree with you. When was the last time the Dems or the Reps actually had a fiscally conservative candidate? Republicans claim to be, but when they get in office they trample all over the Constitution and work for a bigger government and more regulation. I was really hoping Wayne Allyn Root would win the Lib. nomination, but Bob Barr is better than Obama or McBush especially with Root on his ticket.

People must understand that President Bush is not responsible for all the chaos occurring. It is the Bush Administration that has caused all our problems and the Past Republic controlled Congress is not far away. Democrats are not free of guilt either.

The Campaign for liberty is not about electing Ron Paul president. You can campaign for liberty all you want, but once you get into the polling place you better not waste your vote on someonewho is not running for President. If Barr and Nader collectively poll say 15% in November Washington will have no choice but to pay attention.
Before learning from Ron Paul, my views were much like Barr's. We learn and grow and hopefully get a chance to correct our mistakes. Barr has seen the light and has the integrity to admit his mistakes.
Ron Paul is the rare bird. No one can match his record. We will likely never see another in our life times. Barr has the experience and understanding to take the torch and run with it. He has the potential to get the 'mainstream' vote.
"We will likely never see another in our lifetimes."
Well, that's why there are 'Ron Paul Republicans' running for Congress and Senate all across the country. There's one guy named BJ Lawson. He's in North Carolina running for Congress and he won the Republican primary with 70% of the vote. So it is possible to have liberty-minded people in office, and I think it's likely we'll see a voting record pretty close to Dr. Paul's - at least of one man from North Carolina.
Bob Barr saw the light and left the Republican party. He has since been fighting against the Patriot Act, his own Barr Amendment on Marijuana. It takes a big man to admit to his own mistakes and fight to correct it.
.. and it takes a -smart- man with a bit of judgement and the credibility to be trusted as President to be not the author so much dumb evilness in the first place. That's to say, without needing to "see the light" in the form of being voted out of Congress for said apparent evil dumbness.
And just one more thanks .. for the Clinton impeachment excursion with its prosecutors who forced Monica Lewinsky's mother to testify against her.
Thank You for making their day 'libertarian' also, Bob.
If you cant see the good in Barr, then at least see the lack of evil. Do you really think Obama or McCain make for better options? At least he TALKS about turning this country around instead of flip-flopping on every major issue, spamming empty rhetoric, and banging war drums for Iran.
That'd be awesome, but Barr has already chosen his vice presidential nominee. Also, I think Ron Paul might have to be a registered Libertarian to be his VP, and he's a Republican congressman. So he'd have to leave Congress and hop into a longshot, like he did when he ran as a Libertarian in 1988.
I have to say, if a man like Bob Barr is saying the government is overpowered, and is claiming multiple points to support this, we have a problem. The federal government has caught a rash, and the growth is attempting to spread everywhere. Lets put some cream on that rash with our votes, opinions, letters, and shouts.
Barr is kicking some major ass! I think he's going to kick McCain's ass out to the curb this November 4. GOOGLE: McCain Gun Rights, and then take a look at the GOA page! If all gunowners were informed, McCain would not stand a chance in hell. McCain has been funded by anti-gun Soros since 2001, and his support of irrational, hysterical anti-gun legislation proves it. He supports bringing back the Bush Sr. (wrongly named) "assault weapons ban"
If I could ask Keith Olbermann a question it would be: "What is it like being an echo?" I mean, really, how many times is a member of the press going to ask Barr if he's concerned that he may end up stealing votes from McCain?
I'm tired of the "Lesser of the Two Evils" mantra that apathetic Americans have adopted. Wake up, people! Obama or McCain: it'll be like pointing out the differences between two turds. In the end, they both stink.
If you are looking at McCain as the conservative, I want you to research the difference between paleo-conservatism and neo-conservatism. Once you figure out which one you are, then decide. They both hold similar views in certain areas, but there are stark contrasts between the two. Specifically in regards to the size of government, liberties and diplomacy. Regan, Jefferson, (most founding fathers) were Paleo. Bush, McCain and many modern conservatives are Neo. Dont be misguided by "Conservative"
moreover, "neo" conservatives are only conservative in their commitment to traditional family values. they are liberal republicans. former democrats. and that is exactly why Mccain can 'reach across the aisle'... b/c there is little difference between his political philosophy and Obama's.
Because the Democrats did not vote to convict Clinton they have effectively given the Executive Branch carte blanc to do whatever they want with impunity. It is all well and good for the party one favors to do whatever they want and to trash the Constitution but one must remember that when the other guy gets in he will take the same license. When that happens we all lose our rights. Protect your rights, shrink government, vote Libertarian.
I've read comments on various political and social forums claiming that impeachment is irrelevant due to Bush's short time left in office, but I disagree. By Kucinich highlighting how the government used lies and propaganda to drum up support for war with Iraq, it exposes the current campaign of lies and propaganda being used to hype the case for war with Iran.

BOB BARR 08! All Ron Paul supporters should switch and vote Libertarian, as Ron Paul ran as a Libertarian in 1988. Send the dems and the reps a message! no more!
ihateneocons 3 years ago 4
I am a supporter of Ron Paul's ideas, and am very much a big supporter of Bob Barr. I did switch.
fleisch09 3 years ago 3
The Libertarian Party doesn't necessarily reflect all libertarian views. Bob Barr's record as a congressman ran contrary to most things libertarians stand for, so his sudden "conversion" has us wary. Barr is better than Obama/McCain, but that isn't saying much. It's not just a matter of Ron Paul supporters joining the bandwagon simply because he's under the Libertarian banner. We want someone that actually believes those ideas, and Barr hasn't yet proven that he does.
standardspacedf 3 years ago
I think voting for Barr is totally necessary. I do not want to write in Ron Paul because he is not a candidate. I want my vote to count for something, and to boost a legitimate party into the system. I know Barr is not the ideal candidate, but he has expressed disapproval and regret regarding his votes for Iraq War, Patriot Act, and so on.
He was duped by Bush on the first two, who promised limited power but took all he was given and more. Barr and the LP needs RP supporters.

Barr is actually a very conservative Republican.
blueguise23 3 years ago 3
Voting for something you don't believe in is truly throwing your vote away. Voting for someone you know doesn't have a chance to win but you support nonetheless is a vote for a change from the status quo. Whether Barr wins or not doesn't matter, what matters is that McBush or Obama will see the support Barr receives and get the point -- we want a smaller government and more freedom. We don't want the government telling us how to live our lives. Vote for Barr and truly make a difference.

Bob Barr does not walk the walk. Ron Paul 2008
highwaytoSerfdom 3 years ago 2
I don't care if Bob Barr is only 3% in the polls. I wouldn't care if he were .00000000001% in the polls. He has my vote. Ron Paul said it best when referring to Obama. "Change is nothing but a word when you can't back up how you are going to bring about it." American's keep saying, 'change' this, 'change' that. What better way to bring true change than to NOT vote the republican/democrat status quo and vote third party. Seriously if not Barr, vote Nader before you vote for McSame or Obama.
corysoulier 3 years ago 3
Baron Pierre de Coubertin was right. What matters is not the winning but the taking part. Barr is the only true Olympian in this race. Two others are just trying to win at all costs.
montyZdog 3 years ago 5
All for third parties, just not this guy. I looked into him after Paul dropped out, but don't like what I found. He voted FOR the Patriot act and FOR the war. The reason I liked Paul wasn't just because I tended to agree with him most of the time, but because he made his decisions based on well defined principles. What are this guys principles??

I agree with you. When was the last time the Dems or the Reps actually had a fiscally conservative candidate? Republicans claim to be, but when they get in office they trample all over the Constitution and work for a bigger government and more regulation. I was really hoping Wayne Allyn Root would win the Lib. nomination, but Bob Barr is better than Obama or McBush especially with Root on his ticket.

The Campaign for liberty is not about electing Ron Paul president. You can campaign for liberty all you want, but once you get into the polling place you better not waste your vote on someonewho is not running for President. If Barr and Nader collectively poll say 15% in November Washington will have no choice but to pay attention.
thequietkid10 3 years ago
Before learning from Ron Paul, my views were much like Barr's. We learn and grow and hopefully get a chance to correct our mistakes. Barr has seen the light and has the integrity to admit his mistakes.
Ron Paul is the rare bird. No one can match his record. We will likely never see another in our life times. Barr has the experience and understanding to take the torch and run with it. He has the potential to get the 'mainstream' vote.
InTheSticks1881 3 years ago 5
Ron Paul showed you can vote like he does and still get re-elected. Maybe we'll see more.
axisboldas 3 years ago
"We will likely never see another in our lifetimes."
Well, that's why there are 'Ron Paul Republicans' running for Congress and Senate all across the country. There's one guy named BJ Lawson. He's in North Carolina running for Congress and he won the Republican primary with 70% of the vote. So it is possible to have liberty-minded people in office, and I think it's likely we'll see a voting record pretty close to Dr. Paul's - at least of one man from North Carolina.
MooseOfReason 3 years ago 2
That's good news. We need to continue support Ron Paul's efforts to find candidates.

.. and it takes a -smart- man with a bit of judgement and the credibility to be trusted as President to be not the author so much dumb evilness in the first place.

At least he TALKS about turning this country around instead of flip-flopping on every major issue, spamming empty rhetoric, and banging war drums for Iran.

thequietkid10 3 years ago
That'd be awesome, but Barr has already chosen his vice presidential nominee. Also, I think Ron Paul might have to be a registered Libertarian to be his VP, and he's a Republican congressman. So he'd have to leave Congress and hop into a longshot, like he did when he ran as a Libertarian in 1988.
MooseOfReason 3 years ago
Not exactly, Wayne Allyn Root was chosen by the delegates at the Libertarian Party convention. He got in third place of the overall votes.

(wrongly named) "assault weapons ban"
heywoodjablohme 3 years ago 7
If I could ask Keith Olbermann a question it would be: "What is it like being an echo?" I mean, really, how many times is a member of the press going to ask Barr if he's concerned that he may end up stealing votes from McCain?
I'm tired of the "Lesser of the Two Evils" mantra that apathetic Americans have adopted. Wake up, people! Obama or McCain: it'll be like pointing out the differences between two turds. In the end, they both stink.

U.S. is a 2 party 'winner-take-all' system of plurality with judicial sys. allows them control of the electoral process.
These political orgs have changed parts of Constitution to the point it's unrecognizable to it's citizens.
So how could you not expect gov't in 'elected' gov't in the future to impose illegal excesses onto citizens?
Feed the "Borg" and you will be assimilated!
"...resistance is futile."
The only way to stop it,is revolt by citizens to take control of their own gov't.

Or is it that the nation has been dumbed down and been programed to ignore what is happening?

If you are looking at McCain as the conservative, I want you to research the difference between paleo-conservatism and neo-conservatism. Once you figure out which one you are, then decide. They both hold similar views in certain areas, but there are stark contrasts between the two. Specifically in regards to the size of government, liberties and diplomacy. Regan, Jefferson, (most founding fathers) were Paleo. Bush, McCain and many modern conservatives are Neo. Dont be misguided by "Conservative"
Smacks548 3 years ago 2
moreover, "neo" conservatives are only conservative in their commitment to traditional family values. they are liberal republicans. former democrats. and that is exactly why Mccain can 'reach across the aisle'... b/c there is little difference between his political philosophy and Obama's.
