  • boogey! AMAZING :O

  • I have a question. I'm self taught and I can play this piece, the Grade 5 Schumann one, Fur Elise, Maple Leaf Rag, Rue des Cascades (by Yann Tiersen) amongst other pieces. My sax teacher (who specialises in piano) got me to play a really simple piece and he graded me at between Grade 1 and Grade 2 standard (he says my sight reading is good but my fingering lets me down). I didn't tell him I can play these pieces but can someone be Grade 1/2 but be able to play Grade 5/6/7 pieces?

  • @crazypianolady it depends. the pieces are important, but only half the story. Being of a 5/6/7 standard requires alot of musicality and also sight reading, scales etc :( however i would say if you can play those pieces, you would be a good bit better than grade 1/2

  • i'm grade 3 my teacher says grade 4 will be easy for me so i shold skip to grade 5 but this looks so unbelievably hard and my teacher always picks the hardest pieces for me! also, i took the grade 3 exam last friday and i'm sure i failed, even though my teacher said might be able to get distinction

  • IMHO that was ignorant of the examiner. For crying out loud! Peterson, although classically trained, was a jazz musician and wrote and played jazz. Jazz is jazz and should be played as jazz! You have played this very well.

  • Sigh... the examiner didn't know how to appreciate jazz music. Jazz must have swing feel.

  • haha took grade 6 exam just a few months ago so now i'm a grade 7 but i still can't play this song perfectly -like you. lol

  • You know all the notes but it's too static, you have to make it more smooth and relaxed :)

  • @xxxxHMDxxxx That's a matter of personal choice, IMO.

  • @mmcrosbie Okay....I don't remember commenting on this pmsl I don't play piano haha! sorry :$

  • i am grade 4 i am 6 on my page it says i am 46 but i made a mistake

  • I'm grade 2 what the hell that looks hard !!!!

  • Wow! This is amazing; thanks for adding it! it helped me a lot with the rhythm, especially on bars 8 - 12 :D

  • lovely :)

  • Your fingers are so long!

  • Hehe, it sounds a little like something for Mario.

  • Hehe, they always fit a jazzy piece into the C pieces, and I always play them!

  • my piano teacher played this for her exam and she used it to help me practice my aural and all i can say is just wow god knows how she was able to play that it was amazing

  • aaaah catn play this!!!

  • im a huge fan mqbdp im so jealous. just watching you play makes me dream. anyway im only on grade 3 so might not get to play that. but its really good and again huge fan.

  • Can anyone give me some tips for Bars 17 to 22? Its getting the figers smooth thats the problem for me. If anyone can suggest an alternative finger pattern to me that would be much appreciated!

    Thanks,

  • @dashhzzz. hao lian. Lols

  • not bad

  • I have my music lesson is an hour :D

  • nice job! i'm playing this piece now but i can never get it to go smoothly ):

  • perfect one

  • aA bB cC dD eE fF gG hH iI jJ kK lL mM nN oO pP qQ rR sS tT uU vV wW xX yY zZ

  • nice!u can do it stably .. I have this exam but icannt do it stably in17-22

  • Give it more staccato, and, you are playing this as a normal piece i.e. Mozart,Beethoven,Bach, all those, but jazz should be played with unique style, you must feel the music in your soul, as if you are in the music, then, i assure you, it will be very easy, i aced it with my teacher on the 3rd try by doing that,

PS: I'm only 11 and I'm taking grade 6 this year, i chose a5, b1 and this piece, i live in Singapore

  • I'm doing this piece for grade 6 :) This video has LITERALLY changed my life!!! I read one of my boyfriend's friends comments on this video and started talking to her and her friend and now we've been going out for 10 months :) I love you Ollie <3 Thank you for making this video xxx

  • pretty good but too fast man

  • disagreed. oscar played it at around quarter = 220

  • dude u must be shit

  • I can't get this piece out my head, but it is awesome though.

  • ...I love jazz and classical, but i doubt i will be able to play that^ with my tiny fingers -_-

Well, im doing grade one now so hopefully by the time i get to get six my fingers will have grown -_-

  • nice interpretation... i think what people don't get is that jazz depends on your own personal take on it... i personally do a lot slower and not stacattoey... ^_^

  • i love jazz and i love this too bad i wont be moving greades that fast

  • wow nice playing! lucky person's got long fingers!

  • just wondering, what piano is he playing on?

  • i think it's pretty good but a tad too detached and a little rushed at some parts...overall, quite a nice feel...too bad it's a classical exam piece coz this is a very fun piece to improvise on... :P

  • Nice feel. Good work - Well done. Try to give the dynamics some contrast in the mid-section. Jazz should never be performed at the cost of a nice tone production. Integrate your classical ideas - it will bode well for you. Good job!!

  • is it meant to be this fast? i though it was a bit slower than dis

  • thought jazz is like lazy?

  • jazz can be upbeat.

  • great.

But i don't agree with the soo many staccatos(which makes it hycuppy).

    buit otherwise ITS GREAT.

  • Got 22 for it, I played it more as a Jazz piece than an exam piece, which I lost marks for... I'm a Jazz Pianist, what can I say...

Well played, use this as a warm up

  • me too!! im a jazzy pianist.

  • @IvyPianoMan haha it must have sounded pretty good though :P I'm worried thats exactly what i'm going to do. I just play a more rhubato style and i'd rather have fun with a piece rather than be a robot :)

  • what's everyone done for their dynamics on this piece being as there are no dynamic markings?

  • forte for the most part, altho when the piece does the triplets coming down in the right hand, going diminuendo.

Then, at the beginning of the second page, where the piece changes from the usual left hand bassline style, I have it piano, then crescendo at the end of it as the right hand climbs up the octave, before forte on the find few lines

    Hope that helps

  • where can i get a mp3 of this?

  • off the abrsm website :)

  • how long have you been playing piano?

  • nice song... just afraid i can't play out the jazz feeling

  • wow i love your interpretation of this, especially the articulation!

  • Yay, I'm playing this song for the exam too... which is like... tomorrow (Epps!) Your expression nice! My teacher always says my playing is robotic- I get the rhythm but I don't get the feeling. Haiz, how do you do it?

  • play this when someone you like comes in the room

  • Hahas! Im playing this song too for my grd 6 exam in 3 weeks time and i still cant get the jazz feelin' out. Plus my fingers are always weak when i play this song.... Dunno why. I really luv this song so much! Cant just get it rite???? Hope i can make it for this song on the exam day. * I think u played a little too fast.

  • i'm jealous at how easy you make this look :o

  • WoW!!

    It is very fast.

But I think it is too fast.

  • i played this for my grade 6 exam last week....

    i love this piece :D

  • Me too! How was ur exam? Mine is in 3 weeks time.... * Nervous* Almost wanted to give up but i think better not....

  • it was ok (i think)... i came on hols for two weeks the week after my exam so i still dont have my result :(

    Rhiannon

  • i just got my result.... i had merit :D

  • So your exam is next week...? :O

I just took mine today. I played A3, B1 and C3. All the best! Don't give up, please. You've payed for the fees, might as well just go for the exam and see what you get. I hope we both pass, aite? ;)

  • wait no 0:16.....lol

  • AMAZING!

I've just finished this song but I love what you do at 0:15!

  • Fantastic playing..I'm practising this piece but i seem to trip over my fingers and always make mistakes...how long do u practise per day? And any tips on getting my playing smoother?

  • Just practice and practice. It will definitely work. Im tryin' to do dat as well. * Practice makes perfect!

  • this piece is so much fun to play :)

don't play it quite tht fast yet but oh well...

  • nice omg!!!

    amazing

  • i just wanna say your piano sounds great, especially for the lower keys! can you tell me what brand it is?

  • You play this very well! You're obviously very good at Jazz! Loved the way you played well done - I'm hopeing to learn this one for my exam in November :)

  • I can't wait to get to grade 6, I'd love to be able to play a piece like that and with that incredible accuracy...I think I have a while to go yet, I'm only just taking my grade 3 tomorrow.
