Well, God , Bless , us all, for hopefully foraging ahead & not letting our Ancestory , destroy , the very thing that we are trying to do today , as we Serve around the World !!!
I do apologize to all, that wonder why I made the last comment, but , my Fathers 2nd name was McDonald & when I was a child I asked my grandmother why he was James Mc Donald & then our Surname .. She did not answer , till I got older , then told me the History ...
The Mac Donalds / Mc Donalds , ,, they did not all die, out , in , Glencoe , nor , was , that Memory ever erased ... From the survivors .. Many OF THE FEMALES in the Families from Ireland , bore the Mc Donald Name & passed it on to their Male children ,WITHIN THEIR 2ND BIRTH NAMES , when they emigrated to Canada.. The Name lives on, from those that lost their Family members so many Historic years ago !!! Hands reach across Seas , Borders , & across Time !!!
As a McCleod I can only say never NEVER trust a campbell they are all sly foxes no good and still are hated by many clans this name should be erased and never repeted
i have to say it is a good vid and i am happy about it because i am a MacDonald but u got one detail wrong it was the clan campbell that had killed us in our sleep not the english but they were hired buy the english but the point still is it was the campbell a scottish clan that should have known better not the english
Not all together true. They were murdered by the English soldiers and 12 campbells commanded by Capt. Robert Campbell. The troops had been staying with the MacIans for 2 weeks and then rose early and killed 38 MacIans. Really John Dalrymple and Campbell of Breadalbane were at fault. THe Capt. did not want to do it that is why on 38 of 1000 or more were killed , but he felt he had to follow Dalrymple's orders.
So noted. I shall have to investigate that fact a bit more, apparently I have been misinformed. But my point still stands, that after the whole ordeal The Capt. dispaired, becoming a hopeless drunkard and vanishing from my knowledge at least after one such bought of drinking (possibly in Paris?)
Hm, interesting. I never heard anything about him getting vanished, but I heard that he was indeed depressed and broken.
A drunkard he was before he joined the british army, and, much worse, a gambler.
He lost so much money that he was forced to take a command in the army. I think that is true, it's rather unusual being a captain at the age of 60! Perhaps you know anything more about that?!
That is most irregular. As a MacDonald sympathizer I feel it most unusual to try to absolve him ,but he really was not at fault. I had heard he was 60. I only know he died destitute in some foreign port. I do not think that his clansmen would have welcomed him back home after that breach of Highland hospitality.
And, yes, I agree with you that he had no chance to get out of the whole affair. But without his huge gambling-debts he would not be in the army. It's difficult.
lovely, i fish Loch Etive, an often wonder what its like oo`r the hills, tae the paps, the C`s are still sneaky buggers, beautiful vid, photography stunning.

That's true - with one exception:
Only 300-400 McIans lived in Glencoe in 1692.

They wouldn't have, that's for sure.

One should take into account that kind of thing when one joins the Army. But he obviously did not see that one coming.
Is English your first language? If not, your English is excellent.

Well, I also think he isn't to blame for the massacre. He had no chance at all.
Thank you! But, to be true, it takes me a lot of time to write some understandable sentences. And speaking is even worse.
And no, my first language is German. I have fallen in love with Scotland and I am very interested in its history.

Good things come to those who wait I suppose.
I am glad there are others who believe in history. It seems a dieing art sometimes.
