  • Because of the snippets of "It's a wonderful life" I have now just watched this film for the first time. It got to me in the end - hubby had to throw me the tissue box! Wonderful film, enjoyed all. Have you seen "Rope"? James at his best.

  • A long time ago. They just don't put old films on TV that much these days.

The first film I ever saw him in was 'Bell Book and Candle' so I have a special fondness for that one.

  • @helenmiskin Yes you are right, its the film to watch every Christmas. James Stewart would have got an Oscar that year (1947) but for the fact that 'Gone with the Wind' swiped it from under his feet. His biography is excellent if you have time to read it. The favourite western performance for me is 'The man who shot Liberty Valance', where he stars with John Wayne.(great scene in the cafe with a fight over a beef steak). Also 'Shenandoah' is exceptional. A great great actor.
