Choking on blood during surgery without anaesthesia? That is worst-case scenario!

what i don't understand is why she acts like it's a surprise there was blood. "something must have been cut." yes, the tonsils were cut out. i had brain surgery in december (thankfully WITH anesthetic, which i'm much more grateful for after watching this documentary) and was warned i might need a transfusion. you lose blood in surgery. whoever operated on this kid should've known to keep his airway clear.

I don't think the issue is the doctor's *knowing* what to do. In the very beginning of the documentary, after they show a tonsillectomy without anesthetic, they mention they are still waiting to get the equipment needed to give anesthetic. What's to say they don't have the equipment needed to help keep an airway clear of blood? The point is that Belarus is a place severely lacking in the kind of government and medical assistance needed to keep these people living in a normal, healthy state.
