In this game setting the number of lives is pointless (unless you're aiming for a high score). Whatever way you die you end at the last checlpoint with no upgrades
@nsssj That because bosses in Gradius and games that are spin off from the main series always time out. I think it was done for two reasons one to help you the player out if you aren't fully power up and two to prevent the player from milking the bosses for points.For there are some bosses that have projectiles that are destructible and will give you points.
