Forgive my ignorance, but how big is the boat, weight? There's big swell & from the footage it rides over the top of the waves rather than ploughing through them like a cruise ship might.
@watchinu66 The Grampian Protector has a Registered length of 39m and Length Over All of 45m. The GRT is 573 Tonnes. Most of what you see in the two clips is us Dodging on Location. This means that we have to keep close to the platform we are looking after and so are going as slow as possible. We must go fast enough to maintain steerage but slow enough to minimise damage to the vessel and lesson the amount of times we have to turn the boat around. That's why we tend to ride over the waves.
omg thats unreal, respect to you an the crew ,some of those waves must be 30 foot plus ,an some 1 was laughing ,id be cryin , ,,an sick as fuk lol ,,thats amazing
Yes. The worst thing that could possibly happen in these conditions is engine failure. We try to go as slowly as possible into the waves and sometimes have to take all power off when we see the big ones coming. That's why it's worse at night time. There's usually a couple of boats have to return to harbour with storm damage but, luckily, never a boat that I've been on.
This video is great it shows how much faith and bravery you guys have in doing your job under such extreme conditions. One of the best vids out there i think - if your into rough seas n stuff. Nice one.
@Infodealer33 Never really had much to do with the Bay of Biscay but I would imagine the Biscay swell is a lot larger and slower and the North Sea steeper and hit harder
You really have some nice quality video. It is nice that the "View" is so close to the ocean instead of up many decks. How long is the ship and what kind of wind speed did you see?
top vid . fukn ledges doing this day in day out .cheers.

Blows my mind how waves this size propagate, the force behind them is just crazy.

The Protector is 38.5m Registered length and 44.8m Overall. Not sure about the wind speed but the highest I saw personally was 75kn
