WWF is running a campaign to help the Hector's Dolphins. You can adopt a dolphin for only $30 a year. Not only are you helping the dolphins but you get a plush toy, certificate, poster and get regular updates on the conservation program.
Anyone enjoying this video should know that the New Zealand government, pressurised by the fishing industry, is doing nowhere near enough to save the Hector and Maui dolpins.
Three dead Hector's dolphins have been found on Canterbury beaches, two on West Coast beaches, and one on an Otago beach since December 2008 (two months since this text was posted).
There are only 7000 Hector and around 110 Maui dolphin left.
hi mazzolajewellery- have NZ changed any of their policies since you posted this towards protecting any of these dolphins? i'm googling it all now coz of ur post, thanks.
definitely not - the green party introduced a marine bill that would give endangered marine life around new zealand the same protection as the kakapo, for instance. but it was rejected by the government. they are spending millions to save the kakapo which is good, but won't do what they have to, to save about 100 dolpins. i hate to sound like a ranter but extinction is extinction - thanks for the question!
Excellent! Wwe saw exactly the same behaviour when we were at Porpoise Bay in Jan 2008. Hooker Sea Lions, Yellow-eyed Penguins and Hectors, what a place!!
Surfing dolphins. Now I've seen everything.

Beautiful, I had the chance of swimming with them in Akaroa about 8 years ago. Didn't know they are endangered :(
