  • so much to say but so little time! mankind as a whole has progressed very far into these technolgically controlled enviornments that they created. to bad that it will all be wasted in the blink of an eye! all of humanity needs to make very drastic changes in the way they handle the coming years, cause such damage has already been done that can never be changed, all i can do is pray to the father like this tune suggests and let him take control of our very uncertain future AMEN!

  • @MARKBPHARM The president is just a pawn. It makes me wonder why he's called "Commander and Chief". If he really were in charge he wouldn't have to go through congress to get bills passed because he's "Commander and Chief" therefore what he says should go. That's one reason I don't vote.

  • can You hear me, can hear me calling, can You hear me calling You (from the 80's) ... think i'll jump into The Cube (now) ... a few Years later, after this song came out - any of this still apply ??

  • Takes me back to 1987, in Bahrain and the girl I had recently broken up with because her drinking just got to be waaaay out of control. 2 weeks after we broke up, on October 30, 1987, she attended a Halloween party and later that night drove off a pier and crashed into a steel flat barge. The guy passed out in the backseat (another friend of mine) died immediately on impact from a broken neck, but she drowned when trying to escape the car.

RIP Jennifer and Danny, you're always remembered.

  • 37 dislikes are idiots!!!

  • Actually it has nothing to do with politics. According the the author is is about man that has time travled to the future and sees society breaking down into anarchy. It is a message to his son and wife from the future. Sorry guys but you are reading your own meaning into it from your own fears. Probably the funniest ones are those !talking about "the military industrial complex" since the guy in the song tells them to ignore the church and state but trust him because he is from the high command

  • @lwatcdr the truth shall liberate us all its all about faith

  • @lwatcdr Really? hmm, i can believe that. Witht eh state of the U.s. and the lack of civil discussion on both sides I can understand how the song would be so prevalent today. Society breaks down when civility and manners break down.

  • SOPA PEOPLE - wake the hell up...

  • well, look at the FEMA camps that are being built, and all of the casket liners that are in Georgia and other places... get ready people, we are going to be prisoners in our own country....

  • @12342321 we already are...

  • @12342321 Seriously, don't worry about that.

  • I always thought this was about cold war anxieties.

  • I should think the United States will survive (in a fashion) irrespective of which person is elected President. I think people assume the President has a lot of power. I doubt that. Big business, the CIA and those behind-the-scenes-bankers are running the country and the world, despite the side show from the White House.

  • @MARKBPHARM It's the Military/Industrial/Terror complex. Just as Eisenhower warned us of in his State of the Union address. They warned him to STFU....or else.

Look what happened to JFK when he tried to go against them. The White House is just a front, and yes, a side show.

We can elect whomever we wanted by the powers that be will still be in control.

  • @MARKBPHARM well said. totally agree!

  • @MARKBPHARM Most recorded civilizations have 400 to 500 year life cycle. Ours will be in the low 400's when ours ends.Greed and corruption have always been the killers of all great civilizations. It's very hard to fathom that the human race produces such beautiful art and science and at the same time so damn self destructive Our distortion will likely come from some man made germ and not "The A Bomb"

  • That's Billy Drago in the beginning with the key. He played Barbas on Charmed.

  • Ron Paul 2012,trust me I'm Black American.

  • @WestcoastMusicals Is that right ? Did someone say Ron Jerremy is running for office?

  • Have ALWAYS loved this song!

This may be "the Song" IF "GOD forbid" resident (thats NOT a typo!) obama gets re-elected!?!

I dont believe the Republic could survive that!!!

    2012-IS the time AMERICA!

    SAVE THE REPUBLIC!

    ABO="ANYBODY" but obama in 2012!

GOD BLESS AMERICA! GOD SAVE THE REPUBLIC!

  • @45gunner Little dramatic *

  • Look behind what the words say. She was expected to do and say what was appropriate for the time, only the world in that time was a man's world. Autrocities were committed because that's what you do in war (sound like any current headlines). If you haven't checked out Sam Cook's A Change Is Gonna Come, try it. Seal has a new version of it and it's pretty good, but it lacks the social isolation that I'm sure Cook and other black artist of the period were feeling.

  • The video is about chances. We are given so many chances before they come for us. He sings about listening.......our generation didn't listen, will the next one be so blind or will they slide through this world and pass the blindness on to the next generation?

  • the music to this always gave me the creeps

  • @Steadno It's suppose to give you the creeps.

  • @74142kokopelli lol what about 'ship of fools' by robert plant?

  • @Steadno Ship of fools is an acurtae description of the planet, Silent Running is the people who know it can't be saved.

  • @74142kokopelli and 'dream weaver' by gary wright?

  • @Steadno How the f*** old are you that you remember this stuff and what it all meant in a world gone crazy. It hit home only with the people who could see through the illusion. Dream Weaver, love song to the lost.

  • @74142kokopelli lol im 34. im just trying to think of songs where the music creeps me out. lets keep it going. 'nights in white satin' by the moody blues.

  • @Steadno The same people as dream weaver only after licking a very special frog!

  • @74142kokopelli ha ha...'dont worry' curtis mayfield?

  • @Steadno Curtis Mayfield doing Move On Up talks about rising to the feat. The heat in that song could melt steel.

  • @74142kokopelli so thats where kanye west got that beat. seems like just when you think its origional you run into the root later down the road. hiphop is like that. 'isis' by bob dylan?

  • @Steadno The outside may seem shiny and new, but inside it's all the same. Each generation has to put it's own spin on the situation, you know, so it seems like it belongs to them. Been that way since the beginning of music. The message is there, you just have to know what it is. More about you????

  • @74142kokopelli any artist you hold dear?

  • @Steadno Lots. Early Motown, edgy stuff like Silent Running. Marilyn Martin, Alison Moyet, I also like country and deep soul. Underground R&B like Sharon Jones, Kraak & Smaak, Crowded House, Dan Hartman, Destroyer, Doobies, AWB, ELO, Etta James, Lissie, Queen Latifah, Simply Red, Keysia Cole, Missy Elliott, and the list goes on....

  • @74142kokopelli wow thats a list...ill check em out.

  • @Steadno Try listening to Sharrisa's Any Other Night for pure isolation. She's got a new man there, but .....it's not the one she really wants to be there. Yet she's strong enough to realize that she's better than that.....no one is reaponsibile for her life except her.

  • @Steadno Your turn...........who get's in your head?

  • @74142kokopelli well its changed alot over the years. but over the past 3 ive really been into tool/apc. i like metellica, aic, soundgarden and led zeplin. jay electronica, nas, 2pac, bone, ras kass, canibus and rakim. bob dylan and jimi hendrix. im real picky about blues. i hate pretty much anything other than one man one guitar/ banjo blues...so buka white, lightin hopkins, john lee hooker, son house are a must in my book. i also like enya, yanni etc

  • @Steadno Hope this catches up with you. Had to close out early last night, but enjoyed our discussion. Your taste is truly eclectic. Know some of the old timers, but interesting introduction to others. Be well my friend and never let the music die!

  • @74142kokopelli likewise my friend!

  • @Steadno Steadno.....try Alison Moyet's Invisible, Bernie Taupin's Citizen Jane....can you feel the disillusion, the emptyness?

  • @74142kokopelli

Alison Moyet's voice resonates with melancholy and despair...

  • @Steadno Steadno.....it started 40 odd years ago with a song called Town Without Pity. Love had no chance in a world that won't love. From there it went into guitar riffs and hidden messages that people thought they heard. The message is the emotional content of the song. It is in the feeling within the singing, not the song itself. The messages are always there and they are always very, very clear.

  • @74142kokopelli interesting song. i just listened to the it and read the description of the film. im sure this was kinda risque during its era.

  • @Steadno It was about the cold war and a culture that was very unforgiving unless you bought into the socio-political bs.

  • @74142kokopelli oh really. the description said it was a post ww2 film about a group of us army guys who raped a german girl cause she was changing her bikini outside and thus 'deserved it'...the flip was that she was the one seen without pitty cause she wanted justice.

  • YEAH, WE HEAR YOU

  • Yeah, we hear you )

  • this sample was used in Red Cafe's new song titled Can you Hear Me Running?... Mad good song give it a listen if u like rap/hip-hop

  • can you hear me can you hear me runnin' over 37 people

  • This vid is like a cool scifi flick except that it has no plot and no ending - just an ominous holographic message from the future or maybe a parallel dimension....

  • Hit #1 on the Billboard mainstream rock chart for 5 weeks on Dec 28, 1985. Also #1 rock hit of the 1985 calendar year

  • 37 dickheads....this is fine as hell!!! wat a super classic!!!! thnx uploader:))

  • If you don't, you will

  • I don't hold much hope my generation will fight what's coming!

  • @RealistinCanada Your generation is already speaking out. I am 37 and may not be your age group I dont know , however rest assure we are resisting these tyrants. It may not be in a way some foolish people see fit, Were doing it peacefully and warning others and were having an effect. I suggest you do the same and wake others up. Peace is the way to do it, People stand down and we win. Our police and millitary refuse to follow there treasonous orders we win. This can be acomplished through peace

  • Rutherford says it's a time-travel song, but it really is just a message from a man who sees the future his society's created and is warning his wife and children. The end is already upon them..."By nightfall the fighting will be close at hand..." Definitely echoes the Holocaust, whether intentionally or not.

  • I don't belive it's a man that has traveled through time as much as this song has overtones of the Jewish Holicoust?

  • How could anyone dislike this?! 37 people are hiding out in the cellar.........

  • looking for this version to download on itunes. can u help?

  • @MrMuscles311 For some reason, Itunes does not have the rights to songs of Mike and the Mechanics.

  • "Don't believe the church and state and everything they tell you"

"There's a gun and ammunition...better you should pray to god"

Which is it? God, no god? And are they really implying that prayer will actually protect you against those who mean to do you harm?

  • @oliviasdaddy1 Believe in God, but not the church and state. They are not the same.

  • @oliviasdaddy1 Lord willing and the crik don't rise....if you have ?...msg. or email...

  • @YHWHisYeshua Why? So you can spam me relentlessly with religious bullshit? No thanks.

  • This song turned out to be a prophecy for today's United States.

  • @DanLeeProductions This song turned out to be a prophecy for every country on the planet.

  • @DanLeeProductions So true!

Most don't see it coming......very sad!

  • thumbs up if a crazy caller from coast to coast am brought your here...because he said their was some carrier wave signal interlaced in the lyrics...

  • @TheMutilatedSun what do you think will happen to our country just curious argument sake really.

  • @littleone2813 "There's a gun and ammunition - just inside the doorway. Use it only in emergencies." "Swear allegiance to the flag - whatever flag they offer. Never hint at what you really feel. Teach the children quietly, for someday sons and daughters - will rise up and fight while we stood still." Lots of meaning in the lyrics. Listen...

  • i have a feeling you are right TheMutilatedSun i have a feeling you are its scarry but so true so true.

  • i still don't get what this song is about I look online all the time and never find anything.

  • @littleone2813 With the way this country is headed, I think it will be clear to you very soon.

  • @littleone2813 1984 type stuff. Totalitarian police state governments that lie to their people and profit from death and war. Nothing that would ever really happen though of course....

  • @littleone2813

To me, the video doesn't accurately depict the song. There's a good discussion about the meaning on a site called Song Meanings dot net. Search for "Silent Running" and it's the first link that appears on the site. Click that link and then click on "Comments" to see many interpretations. As a person of faith, I see many biblical parallels to end time events.

  • @littleone2813 is about a guy who's traveled light-years away, out in space somewhere, and he's ahead in time. Therefore he knows what's going to happen to his wife and kids back home, on Earth. And he's trying to get the message to them to say what's going to happen, the kind of anarchy, the breakdown of society, to tell them to be prepared."[5] That's what i found on wikipedia. Hope that helps!

  • Powerfull!

  • This song reminds me of the bosnian conflict were yur neibor yu new for 30 yrs would try to kill ya because of religous differences brutal

  • This is the perfect soundtrack for a movie NOW.In fact they could create a movie around this. There's allot going on and it's just getting started.

  • Have to play this at night, all the lights dimmed, just like i did back in the 80's when it came out.

  • "Someday our children will rise and fight, while we just sat and stood still"

  • Sick song and sick guitar solo!!! One of my fav's!!

  • if you pay attention to what is going on in our own us right now,be it the occupy wall street beat down or ordinary citizen censorship, this is coming awfully close to happening.it may not come in my o r your lifetimes, but it is near.i hope if you are a teenager you take heed and prepare so if your children see this happening they can be ready.and we are sorry it came to this.

  • @swanderer01 WOW thats some powerfull words; and i have to say that i do agree its scary but soo true i think about this topic a lot and i honestly beleive we are so caught up in the materialistic world in wich we live in today ; the writing is on the wall right in front of our own 2 eyes but we can not see it or just choose to ignore it . either way we can not stop fait but just beleive in something good will come from up above great song better story telling

  • what did mike n the mechanics know back then that we did'nt i wonder?

    creepy

  • Mike and the mechanics understoodf history @bushidobrother0

    6

  • The words of the song dont even match the video! The words are about resistance to an occuping force, nomatter the cost.

  • @DCV66 are yu kiddin fuk off and get a life yu sound like another timothy mcveigh go blow up a bldg or somthin

  • @dictator54 sounds like someone spent some time at Penn ST

  • I loved this song when I was a kid back in the 80's. I was somewhere around 6 to 8 years old and this song would give me chills and put me in deep thought. Does the same now maybe even more so.

  • In all seriousness, this is a great song but also very prophetic.

This NWO is very real and very evil as is our willing accomplices in congress

The UN is anti American and have a disdain for our remarkable Constitution

It will require a revolution to take back America make no mistake about it.

Revelations is a crucial must read. God is real, Jesus is real and only through that path will you be saved. These wannabe gods are actually pawns of the devil.

I wish it weren't true!!! Faith & Peace

  • 0:28 holy cow! Barbas, what are you doing here? XD

  • This is back in the time when music had real meaning behind it. The 80's was a time when so many bands came out to speak about really deep issues that needed addressed and of course using music to get through to others is the genius way to do it. Even as a teen I knew this song was of great signifigance. So powerful. It really is such a beautiful song! I love the 80's sooo much! What a time for music that was then. In the blink of an eye it was gone. Same with Mtv. I sure miss it! :-(

  • @thecarebearhideaway This song reminds me of my days of innocence when I could simply imagine a song to mean whatever I wanted it to. As for the '80s, well, it was a fun and eventful decade, but it almost seemed like we were on an express train moving faster and faster but not certain as to where we were going....

  • @GeorgiaKev True, very true. But if you think about it, we are still on that very same train. We still dont know where we are going. All we can do is keep doing the things in life that make us happy and hope the train doesnt derail before we get to do all we had planned. :-)

  • This song is truly about being in the Militia, and what it takes to be part of the resistance!

  • @H2HPatriot And unfortunately, due to our renegade Congress we may have to revisit the meanings of this song...

  • @AnAmericanSon It's started, hasn't it?

  • @AegisNova With the vote on S 1867 (NDAA), yes. They changed the wording at the last moment, but any Senator that would vote to hold US citizens indefinately by the military without charging them is in fact a traitor. Look up sect. 1032 in the aforementioned bill, and you'll see what I'm talking about.

  • @AnAmericanSon I shall inquire. Thank You.

  • He got rick rolled 3:20. This is actual music!!

  • amazing...

  • This came out when I was a kid, ya know back when MTV actually played music videos

  • @SuperBlackhawksfan88 Yep, and I looked forward to seeing gorgeous Martha Quinn come on and give commentary between vids.

  • @SuperBlackhawksfan88

i feel you on this one

  • Well done, dude!

    Best M+M song ever.

  • It is my favourit song for the Top 2000

  • I love this song! A few years ago, I prepared for my first ten mile long distance run, Cherry Blossom Festival race, I used to use this song as a motivational song to push myself the extra distance. I know my reaction has nothing to do with the content of the lyrics. Everytime when I listen to it, the song brings me back to that experience passionately running late in the evening to the rhythm of this song.

  • @mosesmc52 Hey, it doesn't have to be logical to work for you. I take it you've read, "Once A Runner" by John L. Parker, Jr. (I am not a runner, so you'll have to forgive me for asking such an obvious question.) I greatly enjoyed the book.

  • This video always felt like an episode of the X-Files. Even the synth in the hook sounds like the X-Files theme song.

  • Wow. This song just blows me away every single time I hear it.

  • so mesmerizing.

  • Comment removed

  • Whatever the message may be, the beat is SERIOUS and has me rocking my head now.....LOVED IT SINCE THE 80S!!!!!!!

  • "We'll rise up and fight while we stood still."

We'll fight using social networks! :-D

  • @liquidninja3584

    Heh..

    Although the quote is actually

"Someday sons and daughters will rise up and fight while we stood still."

  • i luv the song but is the vid from a film?? which film

  • sinceramente fico emocionado até hoje com essa musica, thanks YOUTUBE....

  • RISE UP MY FELLOW PATRIOTS!! They are coming. Heed the warning. Go to Hell NWO, Communist, and now OWS . We are with the High Command,

  • This song was definitely written because of things that have occurred in the world.Sirhansirhan murdered Bobby Kennedy.Sirhan is a muslim.I believe the way todays government usurps the authority of parents is very bad.It teaches a child they don't have to respect their parents.Honor thy Mother&Father.

  • @DThor53 Wow, can you be any more vague and incoherent ?

  • @CaptainHurricane "Vague and incoherent", said with sarcasm. Sounds like YOU are judging this sinner, too.

  • @TiocfaidhArIa I apologize to DThor53.

  • @DThor53 You failed to quote that Commandment in its entirety. Shame on you!!

  • @TiocfaidhArIa Feel free to write the whole commandment for us. Remember what our Lord Jesus said about those without sin casting stones?

  • @CaptainHurricane Certainly: "That thy days may be long upon the earth"

  • 0:29 HELLO CHILDREN

i love this song so much!!!! thanks for uploading it. I listen to it everyday while i do my homework :D

  • 33 people were mowed down because they did not prepare.

  • is this 4 real ,but it is a nice song !!

  • Very encoded with messages..like the "Key - of Knowledge', pay close attention, you might see things in a "new" way - keep in mind this is a 25 year old video !!

  • another A LIST SONGS OF ALL TIME

  • @areyouazombie How so?

  • @att.netareyouazombie How so?

  • very biblical

  • It's almost the time for Change, we have put up with the crap they feed us for just so long, 40 yrs ago I signed a Blank Check that was Payable up to and Includeing My Life for our Country, and I feel we need to take that Stand and take it Back.

  • I'm only 16 years old and it will remain to one of my most favourite songs of my life, because its just true. I saw the mechanics live this year, even did a photo with Mike, but this song was missing this time with the new singers...

This Music is really something Im missing in the Radio Charts :(

  • @illegalalien2 16 years old & you know of Mike & The Mechanics??!!! Wow, Great music really does bridge generational gaps & last forever. Bet there wasn't to many more teenagers at that show though?

  • @illegalalien2 I grew up in the 80's, graduated in 89. Music was awesome then, nothing as it is now, keep it alive....

  • @12342321 what movie was this from

  • @12342321

I wholeheartedly agree - not much good out today. I'm Class of '88, by the way.

  • @12342321 '87 graduate here. I remember this song all over the radio in the winter of '86-'87, it was always playing....

  • @1QuikTransAm Jan-Feb of 1986.. They were a brand new group..

  • @1QuikTransAm Fall '85- Beginning of my senior year. I remember this video vividly. My first girlfriend then, too!

  • Make a wish, Tommy!

  • Always a cool song, always liked it. He split with his dad to the otherside.

  • i think we need to put down those smart phones and hope we still have the ability to listen and focus and see past the vale that's been pulled over our eyes, o yeh and if you have any gold keep it no matter what that's where the true power is, it's not about wealth it's about protection from something you can't see, ask yourself why is someone trying to buy up all the gold? and who are they? and did you know that there is no gold in ford knox where did it go? Thanks for posting this song.

  • @jollylope They warned us about the dangers of technology in the 1980's. (With music) It is nice to have something as delightful as texting, on the go videos, and other things that totally distracts us from important daily decisions. lol. I think because of technology no one is creative anymore or even talented. I love this song though.

  • @user00975318642 Plenty of people are creative, it's the culture at large that ignores it.

  • @jollylope LOL, there is plenty of Gold in Fort Knox, I assure you. Trust me.

  • @ontheright1 Trust you? Who the hell are you? What arrogant pomp. The exact amount that remains is now officially listed at 147.3 million ounces. From the peak, that is a decline of 79%.

  • this song was head of his time! now everyone is coming to sense the we are not alone in this big place we call universe i don't believe in god what i believe does not really matters, but i believe one thing, we need to burn all the money in the world gold is just a mineral is going to self destruct humans in a long run, we need to recruit more young to Committee on Science & Technology we all work for better future and understading the outcome so we can all understand where we come from-

  • Indeed... The words have more meaning now than they did when this song came out!

Prophetic and certainly someone is clearly seeing the future of human life on this blue marble. I remember hearing this song on the radio and it gave me chills, as my own journey into the spiritual realm began to "call me". This song seems to have spurred me onto my mission and responsibilities to helping people realise the oncoming changes that will occur humankind. We all have a choice to make...

  • @StevJame i agree with u...

  • I had always imagined this song as being sung by an Angel before Armageddon

  • @podboq2 You're scaring me. The way the world is going right now it might be right around the corner.

  • @podboq2 I thought the same thing also.... The Holy Spirit warning and hiding the Faithful....

  • sound cast BREED.´+.0'

  • @OpinionatedJerk Is Choke Canyon a good movie?

  • @jackslater230011 movie is also called On Dangerous Ground note sure where to get a copy from tho..
