  • It is not possible for it to leak oil into the tank if it fails since the Rios use no oil or grease and have a ceramic shaft.

  • Glad to see your tank recovering. I just started using the ESV B Ionic two part system in my 3 month old 55 FOWLR, my LFS said it will cause coraline algae to "grow like mad". I use a Rio 2100 to mix salt for water changes and to pump water into my tank during changes and it is excellent for that purpose.

  • what was the brand and name of the pump you had that failed on you? that caused all the oil and gunk to spill out so i can be sure to stay away from that brand...what is the main purpose of the pump?

  • @hollabacknow8557 I think it was rio

  • thats bbeautiful man i can never get mine to look like that can you PM me i need advice about my aquarium ill send pics and videos and show you my setup and see if you can give feedbacks

  • wow, great video. you grew all that algae with the method in the previous video?

  • @strobel65 yes

  • Thanks much. Very fast coraline growth. You gave a thorough explanation of how to do this.

  • You think I could get a little scrape from your pumps???

  • man i love the videos you put out.. i am just beginning my reef setup i would love for you to check out my video and let me know what you think..

  • I got a noob question. Why do u need coraline algae in ur tank, whats the benefit besides it looks badass?

  • @dreifokker It looks great and it is an indicator that the tank is very healthy. other than than, It does not have any additional benefits that plain live rock alone already offers.

  • @dreifokker it also grows over and smothers out bad algae, like hair algae.

  • @dreifokker

Actually it reduces filtration capability of live rock by covering its micro-pores :)

    Benefits? It looks nice... ;)

  • @dreifokker some fish like mandarins need lots of it in order to survive so ya and there really beautiful fish so perfect reason why ^^

  • bro i started using it and upgraded my light with t5 ...yeah dude its true

  • i want my tank to look like this, its so nice! xx

  • How many gallons is this tank? I saw your metal halide video & I will be using a 150w over my 75g.

  • @SeanoHermano this is a 29g display tank, one 150w MH on a 75g tank would not be ideal for medium stronger light requiring corals unless they are directly under the light and place high in the tank. It would also look good with a really actinic color bulb and vibrantly florescent colored zoanthids.

  • @hugo2x I am still not sure on lighting. If I can get the money i want to have a 250w mh pendant from "Fishneedit" & then get a new bulb for it. Not sure on How many k's.I was thinking maybe 12,000 to 15,000k. Al thought I want to use either LED's or 2 HO T5's for actinics - dawn/dusk.

  • Your tank must have good chemistry!!!!Do you check alk, mag, and calcium?

  • about once a month now

  • I have the same problem. Well its a good problem to have I hear. Just use a razor to cut back some of it. Check out my tank. Nice though...

  • Hi I have a 20 Gal reef tank. I would like to get the coralline to grow all over my tank like this but it is not working like yours did. Im have the bionic 2 part system but my tank dose not need it. my Cal.

stays at 480ppm I check it every week and it stays the same. with no coralline.

Is there any advice that you can give me on this? Thank you

  • How is your nitrate and phosphate levels?

What kind of lighting do you have?

  • My nitrate and phosphate are at 0 ppm

    I have nova t5 24" 4x24 Watt.

I have some kind of algae growing on the back of my tank it is green but if dose not come off with a brush. i will have to scrap it off with a card.

Is this why it is not growing on there?

I have a video of the tank on my page if you would like to take a look. Thank you very much for your help.

  • Increasing your water flow, use a clean razor blade and scrape off all the green algae. Also make sure that your Alkalinity (Carbonate) is at a good range 8-11dkh. Make sure the pH doesn't fall below 8 in the morning, lower pH makes it difficult for calcification to occur.

  • nice tank

How long did it take to cover the whole tank with the coralline algae?

  • 6 months from pre-cured rock

  • how did you know when your pump started to leak

  • I knew because it completely stopped working and upon examination of it I saw the crack.

  • Wow sucks for you....... I would be really piss if that happens to my tank

  • a lot of different things can nuke your tank. You just have to roll with the punches, learn, and move on.

  • thanks, btw ya wouldnt have any equpment ya wanna get rid of do ya?

  • i had or well have copper in my tank,i acted before thinking and well there ya go,luckly i dont have corals or inverts im just wondering how much copper i have in my tank, what were all the things you used to get rid of it?

  • large water changes and I used POLYFILTER (absorbent filter). But doing a large water change (80% 90%) should work the best for removing the majority of it. let polyfilter pull out the left over traces.

  • but can ya add any inverts or is the copper still too high in there?

  • I will still give it some more time and water changes before I start adding, I did a 80% water change once I figured out the culprit but I still want to give it another 4 months of (30% water changes per week) until I buy some more high dollar corals

  • wow very nice vid, i totally didn't even know that we could scrape it off. Thanks

  • do you have invertsin there, since you had copper in there, how much did you have?

  • it killed so many of my inverts ; ( what you see is all I have left

  • hi i have a question for anyone that can answer i put in cured live rock 4 days ago and today i recently saw some orange stuff growing on one of my rock and i did a little bit of research and came across something called (CLOD) coraline lethal orange disease? if anyone is familiar with this how do i solve the problem to get rid of it if it will kill my live rock? thx in advance

  • sorry I'm not really knowledgeable on that, your local aquarium shop may be able to offer some advice

  • oh ok i just started my tank its an 8 gal JBJ nano cube im pretty much a beginner at this but im learning if you have any kind of advice for me thatll lbe great. thx for replying

  • It might be a cyanobacteria problem, check google images and see if it yours looks similar. If it is, you can increase flow in the tank with a nano Koralia and try to decrease the nitrate/phosphate levels in the tank by using chaetomorpha. or you could use the "band aid" approach and just use Chemiclean.

  • yep that was the name of it cyanobacteria. it was recommended by my fish store that i buy this stuff called ultra life red slime remover ive been using it for about 2-3days now should i keep using it each day until it completely goes away i got my water checked earlier today and ive been told my water parameters are fine and my salinity which i just checked about an hr ago is apparently at 1.022 thx for all your help btw

  • how much did your filtration system cost you

  • not as much as you'd think considering I built everything myself.

  • Did that Rio pump show any signs before it went out? I have a Rio plus 1700 and I keep hearing horror stories about Rio pumps. There's also a smaller Rio pump on my protein skimmer, I'm starting to feel doomed. Mine is only about 3 or 4 months old, how old was yours when it fried?

  • how is your Rio pump holding out cuz i just saw this vid and checked mine. and it's alos a 1700 Rio ....dang

  • Mine is a Rio 1700+ and it's supposed to be better and not burn up like the older Rio pumps. I took it apart and the parts had alot of build up so I carefully scraped it clean. The Rio website says most failures are from lack of maintenance. I still don't trust it, I'm gunna replace it as soon as I get some extra cash. It's doing good but I could use something better and not have to worry.

  • thanks i think i will do the same .one good thing is i don't have any fish yet just tring to get the water cool and right.dang it that was 85 bucks

  • wow that coraline is crazy. Sorry to hear about your corals. What kind of pump was it that broke? and what kind of pump did you end up getting to replace it?

    Thanks for the update.

  • RIO, I replaced it with a maxi-jet

  • Hey Hugo ware did u get that black mesh thing for your overflow cuz i'd like to do that to mine.

  • go to home depo or lowes and look in the house roof gutter section, it comes in moderately large roll and is made of plastic. its originally made to protect gutters from debris.
