Both Kate & William's and Frederick & Mary's weddings were wonderful and very different. Let's not knock either of them. As long as both couples are in love, that's all that matters.
THIS is the wedding of the century. The pleated gown, the large bouquet and not just a posy. The genuine smiles and love is just so paliple. Mary took the time to have her hair done to fit the regal occasion. The bridesmaids dresses were simple and slammed at the time by critics -and yet, they raved on about Pippa`s plain dress, what-the!! I am so very happy that I found these set of videos. Mary`s wedding is the best of the century. Mary`s style has copy-cats in high places.. Mary has class.
@rickram1961 Unfortunately, as you may know by now, having researched her and all, she has totally fallen from grace after divorced the prince. Then when she re-married her common lover, she lost the HRH style and her title, and gained the countes title and the style HE instead. Today not many Danes like her anymore. I do, though.. She is still the mother of two of our princes, gotta give er credit for that - she still gets her apanage from the State. Long live the Countess! ;)

My contention being that such a study will prove that the unemployed are/have been victims of discrimination by political ignorance, by virtue of the fact that they themselves (politicians) have not bothered with such analyses on the lower socioeconomic sector’s behalf.
A good quantitative analysis task: assess real values of the dole. I say this because now its something like four hundred and fity dollars. Yet I find that seven hundred dollars (pension) only just enables me to afford upkeep of a lower class tiny two bedroom unit. I would be flat broke if I hadn’t been diagnosed with a mental illness (which I vehemently dispute).
Alright, I'll make another attempt to be fair here. I believe there are seven different classes. Lower class, upper lower class (my level), lower middle class (not mine because I don't have a pool and a conservative mortgage/income), middle class, upper middle class, lower upper class, upper class. Oh and High Class doesn't cover us mere mortals.

@bibi5767 We English don't like to show emotion publicly......Whereas the Danes do. George Orwell once said something to the effect of, "The English aren't happy unless they're miserable." lol.
@histrav HAHAHAHAHAHA !!!! Lack of sunlight, -poor buggers. What`s the Royals` excuse :) WHY couldn`t William look at her coming down the aisle. William came to my town a couple of times just before he married so he could land his heli. but I didn`t have enough warning time. I saw him here when they landed when he was about 8 months old. In the arms of his warm and beautiful mum. Both times he needed more hair, hehe
@anpe1001 Now, now aren't we jealous? Great to see your foul blabber in the comment section...which I have found to be the ranting and raving space for the brainless masses.
@anpe1001 Like with ALOT of high profile and celebrity mums-to-be, It's almost second nature for them to close a whole ward, a wing or area of the hospital. Otherwise CP Mary will find herself amongst strangers who want nothing but to take pics and just stare at her. So instead of the mayhem of photographers, news crews and the rest of the public inside a whole fking ward getting in the way of doctors/midwifes/nurses trying to do their job, it makes it much easier for them.
@girlgossipshow No, not in Denmark. There has always been a culture of royals being close to the people and not requiring extreme special treatment, like this.
@anpe1001 But that decision would not have been made from Mary to shut off part of the hospital. I'm sure they shut off the same part of hospital when the other royal family members had their children did they not? I doubt very much that Mary is the only one who has had that happen to her. These decisions are not made solely by Mary anyway. I could hardly call her an arrogant bitch for doing what every other royal are most likely doing as well. It's a bit hypocritical.
@anpe1001 Well, I don't believe that until I hear from someone with first hand account. Otherwise I'll end up telling tall stories like you about Mary shutting down parts of the hospital like she owns it. It would be a good idea to go check your facts about what the Dr's of the hospital said about it. You are recycling stories that are based on hearsay and speculation I'm afraid. Dr Morten Hedegaard, the Head of the maternity ward has slammed rumours about Mary needing multiple rooms for her...
@anpe1001 ...hospital stay. "No one giving birth will be moved due to the upcoming birth within the royal family. We have not closed down one or more delivery room at the maternity ward. There are 13 delivery rooms with an average of 15 deliveries a day. The planninng takes six months in advance so not everyone who wishes to give birth at Rigshospitalet can do so. As such patients have been turned away from here, but this has no relation the to the royal birth."
@anpe1001 So they have chosen several rooms to which to choose from for the delivery. But they will only use one room when the time comes because obviously she can't give birth in several different rooms at one time can she?
Being the CP of Denmark, of course there will be a few extra security and measures to ensure she get's privacy, she's a public figure, it happens with every public figure in her shoes. But to suggest she initiated the closure of some rooms is pathetic.
It was indeed disrespectfull, but your reaction shows that the whole muslim part of the world has a problem. You can burn jesus statues, you can burn bibles and you can burn our flags. We just laugh at you cave men.
I love our monarchy. I'm proud of them, and I think they represent Denmark in a better way than many of our politicians. I'm willing to pay more in tax to have this monarchy, as I am willing to pay more tax to have a welfare state that supports those who can't support themselves.
@ptevlin Frederik takes after his short, fat, French father; Joachim after his tall, slim, rather handsome (not quite "pretty") mother, though he's more recently been turning into a younger version of Prince Charles, which is a pity.
the monarchists have to stop assuming that people are indiscrimately jealous, people disapprove her for a reason, she is cold, stiff, pretentious, extravagant and not very caring for others.
On the contrary, Princess Marie is all warm and sweet, I love her so much, can you still say that I am jealous????
@AinslieRiddell I disagree (and my impression is that most danes would) Joachim may be taller but he often seems distant, is ridiculed in the press (even if it may be unfair) and is often portrayed as less charming than Frederik. Frederiks character is quite like his grandfather king Frederik IX who was very much seen as one of the people, beeing a man of the sea, a tough and funny guy, flashing his tatoos and beeing very relaxed when he was with his family (and most other places too).
@ArxVirtus I think you mean princess Alexandra? Joachims ex-wife and the mother of his two eldest children. I was surprised she arrived at that time too, but they were still married then, so I guess she'd count as royalty and according to ettiquette therefore be supposed to arrive as one of the last.
please astrid stop with that stupidity ,,you dont like monarchy< ok,,we respect that but stop whole time talk same stuff.....yes wedding costs,,but tell me how many republic costs...look grecce is republic and what they do with country...they need to return 300 billion of euros...and people gave trust to the goverment...how many republlics and president cost...if i can choose...republic no thank you..
May I ask, denmark has its own poverty issues, and neglected places, even as a welfare country, why shouldn't the money given to them instead? why cut social expenditures while at the same time allowing royals such extravagance?
is it too much to ask? examine your own issues, don't point finger elsewhwere and adopt the "thief thief" strategy.
@astridbelge The vast majority of monarchies make up for their expenses with tourism revenues that directly benefit their state's economy. Presidents and Prime Ministers have much greater expenses and oftentimes contribute much less, and even harm their state. Think Bush or Berlusconi. Monarchies are impartial living symbols of a state that unite, while politicians divide. Either way, a Monarch is the legal sovereign of a State, so unless you're planning a coup the monarchies are here to stay.
Dear Astridbelge from Canada. After all foreigners, like yourself, seem to feel free to put down on our heads of state, may I ask you a simple questions:
How many facts do you have summoned before you posted here, how much research have you done? Are you aware, that the thre scandinavian kingdomes are run among the cheapest compared to other European countries republic?
chancellors-presidents-and retiries are much more expensive!
2nd part: Our nearest example is Germany. They have of course the president, and a chancellor. They are exchanged (if not re-elected) every 4 years. All of them need continously protection, and get retiremental payment. Have you ever conidered what YOUR OWN contry costs in running? Poeple in here are so lighthearted when putting out "facts". We are happy in the north and doing much better then most of europeans republics. simply leave us alone. you don't need to like or vist us..
@astridbelge Make YOUR research. You talk about how much they spend and blah blah. In January 2010 the American Analisis Institute Nation Branding, which calculate the money value of national simbols, concluded that Princess Mary of Denmark is worth 10 billion Danish Kroner. She is just ONE royal profile in the royal family. The other Pricess Marie of Denmark has increased Danish export to France significantly.
@mbud84 The Analisis Insitute states that the high value is because the royal members are a "unique" product which calls other countries' attention. When Danish royalty helps Danish business break through i foreign countries, it often means that the official doors stand open in a different way than it would be the case having non-royalties or presidents to represent you.
@astridbelge The majority of the Danes support the Royal Family. A Swedish newspaper has surveyed people in different European countries to find out where they support their royalties the most. You find most support in Denmark and the UK with 80% in 2010, so...your point about reading newspapers and make a conclusion on that is just not enough to convince me. I study culture and national inentities in Europe which is why I found this clip anyway.
@M55q Be proud of your royal familiy - and be glad to live in a monarchy. We Germans have to live in a bloody republic since 1918. Nothing better than our Imperial house came - if we had a Kaiser in 1933, bastard hitler and his crimes never would have happend.
Greetings from your neighbour country in the south.
@M55q And I think you should be very proud. If I lived in Denmark, I would not mind paying a lttle more tax to keep it alive either.
People around the world can copy books, clothes, language, food and everything that has originated from Denmark but no one will ever be able to replicate the fact that Denmark has the oldest monarchy and no one will ever be able to. That's what makes you stand out in the world so I hope your country will never lose that.
@JohnRhysMusician It isn't The house of Japan. Thats an Imperie, not a monarchy. And there is something more. In the danish monarchy it's still the same family as the first King. That is not the case, with Japan. Have some respect for our Royal Family, and it's status; As the vorlds oldest Kingdom.
I want to maintain peaceful and respectful terms with all those who disagree with me, just because the republicans and monarchists do not agree does not mean we have to be disagreeable, it is only a matter with regards to the freedom of conscience.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Privilege in republic can be justified, because they are obtained by merits and are potentially available to all, and under public scrutiny.
Monarchic privilege is unjust because it is hereditary because on the notion of blue blood, they are ever-lasting, and apply to all royal members, and the money they spend is not even their owe.
If you think people are against monarchy because of personal grievances, what a pathetic joke. There are many republicans from high positions. As for myself, Im from a fairly rich family and studying political science in one of Canadas best universities, we often discuss about the relevancy of monarchy in classes, thats why I have learned to be critical about it.
All these haters on this board. This family is just like everyone else, just with a different and more priveleged role in society. Quit talking about a high tax rate..What do you think Americans pay for the same services and taxes healthcare and standard of living? MUCH MORE. Americans have far less expendable income and a far worse healthcare system and education than in Denmark.
You do not excuse and justify one institution by lashing out against the flaws of others, the politicians may enjoy their privilges, because they obtained their high positions by personal merits, and deserve the privileges they enjoy, their privileges are not ever-lasting, they are gone once they are removed from office, and their wives and children do not receive massive allowances.
you know that your future king only works 81 days per year, and earn millions after millions
you know that your future queen is Prada-obsessed bogan, who can't get enough of the cameras. She's also quite plastic now. Will the real Mary Donaldson please stand up, or did she die on the day of the wedding and a Stepford princess took her place?
The Danish Royal Family is billions worth in advertisement for Denmark, that is a fact, they earn more to Denmark than they cost for the society and it is much cheaper to have a royal family, than a president with presidential campaigns, that is also a fact.
So what? The Danish royal family has NO political power what so ever! Denmark is a complete democracy and the Danish Prime Minister is the only political leader. The Royal Family is a traditional and cultural insittution that a mayority of Danes love. The royal family is a huge benefit for Denmark. They travel around the world to support Danish humanitarian projects and organizations and they also promote promote Denmark in all possible ways: tourism, fashion, business, dipomacy, culture, etc.
the old saying that royalty benefit tourism has long fell out disrepute, just look at all those republican countries, France, Italy and how their tourism booms :)
and only someone who loses arguments would accuse people of being jealous for being critical on these matters
@astridbelge Well, it is a fact that in the case for this country, having a royal family has been a benefit for the tourism because of the culture, traditions and old history it represents. Just because republican countries (where you can also find royal historiy and therefore castles) have had a boom in tourism, doesn't eliminate the other fact.
So, what is the big deal? It's completely harmless to have a neutral Royal Family. All they do is promote and represent the country and preserve a national and proud tradition.
and astrid you are so jelous you are obviously poor stupid alone women who only look how many money everyone spend..and tell me that danemark is republic how many cost president and administration...ccccplease back off,,od bless monarchy danemark and queen..and big kiss to danish people...be proud on your country..
god bless a monarchy,,,how many money spend every country for guns and nuclear weapon..please...and republics costs a billions...here we have one of most oldest monarchies and you astrid back off from europe
You are so despotic, tell me to back off from Europe, just because my opinions differ from yours I cant even speak out? no wonder monarchists are sometimes accused of being reactionary.
Honestly speaking, we Canadians simply cant stand waste of taxes of this proportion, we certainly have wasteful uses here, but not on this scale, and on those unjust monarchic principles, the last governor general here spends a little too much and the public is outrage.
"I pay around 38% procent of it as tax. My tax money is financing Mary's designer clothes. But the thing about Mary is that she always come off as aloof and rather self-centered, and she only started to endorse more worthy charities after being dictated to do it. I guess, what I'm trying to say is, that she seems fake. I do hope and sort of believe that she genuinely loves Frederik, but as I said she doesn't seem to care a great deal about others."
This is a family that has served Denmark since Gorm the old, the longest uninterrupted line in Europe. They have been with Denmark through everything and is the past present and future of the people they are these days more ambassadors, secretaries of state and figureheads but they still serve an important and vital role to Denmark.
If you think the people don't love their monarchs look to Christian X and his rides through Copenhagen during WWII
Beautiful! Thank you!

@anpe1001 Now, now aren't we jealous? Great to see your foul blabber in the comment section...which I have found to be the ranting and raving space for the brainless masses.
visualice 1 year ago
@anpe1001 Like with ALOT of high profile and celebrity mums-to-be, It's almost second nature for them to close a whole ward, a wing or area of the hospital. Otherwise CP Mary will find herself amongst strangers who want nothing but to take pics and just stare at her. So instead of the mayhem of photographers, news crews and the rest of the public inside a whole fking ward getting in the way of doctors/midwifes/nurses trying to do their job, it makes it much easier for them.
girlgossipshow 1 year ago
@girlgossipshow No, not in Denmark. There has always been a culture of royals being close to the people and not requiring extreme special treatment, like this.
anpe1001 1 year ago
@anpe1001 But that decision would not have been made from Mary to shut off part of the hospital. I'm sure they shut off the same part of hospital when the other royal family members had their children did they not? I doubt very much that Mary is the only one who has had that happen to her. These decisions are not made solely by Mary anyway. I could hardly call her an arrogant bitch for doing what every other royal are most likely doing as well. It's a bit hypocritical.
girlgossipshow 1 year ago
@girlgossipshow No, it is a special case. She is also known for being a bitch towards everyone in the royal house.
anpe1001 1 year ago
@anpe1001 Well, I don't believe that until I hear from someone with first hand account. Otherwise I'll end up telling tall stories like you about Mary shutting down parts of the hospital like she owns it. It would be a good idea to go check your facts about what the Dr's of the hospital said about it. You are recycling stories that are based on hearsay and speculation I'm afraid. Dr Morten Hedegaard, the Head of the maternity ward has slammed rumours about Mary needing multiple rooms for her...
girlgossipshow 1 year ago
@anpe1001 ...hospital stay. "No one giving birth will be moved due to the upcoming birth within the royal family. We have not closed down one or more delivery room at the maternity ward. There are 13 delivery rooms with an average of 15 deliveries a day. The planninng takes six months in advance so not everyone who wishes to give birth at Rigshospitalet can do so. As such patients have been turned away from here, but this has no relation the to the royal birth."
girlgossipshow 1 year ago
@anpe1001 So they have chosen several rooms to which to choose from for the delivery. But they will only use one room when the time comes because obviously she can't give birth in several different rooms at one time can she?
Being the CP of Denmark, of course there will be a few extra security and measures to ensure she get's privacy, she's a public figure, it happens with every public figure in her shoes. But to suggest she initiated the closure of some rooms is pathetic.

AinslieRiddell 1 year ago
@AinslieRiddell I disagree (and my impression is that most danes would) Joachim may be taller but he often seems distant, is ridiculed in the press (even if it may be unfair) and is often portrayed as less charming than Frederik. Frederiks character is quite like his grandfather king Frederik IX who was very much seen as one of the people, beeing a man of the sea, a tough and funny guy, flashing his tatoos and beeing very relaxed when he was with his family (and most other places too).

astridbelge 1 year ago
@astridbelge The vast majority of monarchies make up for their expenses with tourism revenues that directly benefit their state's economy. Presidents and Prime Ministers have much greater expenses and oftentimes contribute much less, and even harm their state. Think Bush or Berlusconi. Monarchies are impartial living symbols of a state that unite, while politicians divide. Either way, a Monarch is the legal sovereign of a State, so unless you're planning a coup the monarchies are here to stay.

but fred and mary are too much devoted to self indulgence,

astridbelge 1 year ago
@astridbelge Make YOUR research. You talk about how much they spend and blah blah. In January 2010 the American Analisis Institute Nation Branding, which calculate the money value of national simbols, concluded that Princess Mary of Denmark is worth 10 billion Danish Kroner. She is just ONE royal profile in the royal family. The other Pricess Marie of Denmark has increased Danish export to France significantly.
mbud84 1 year ago
@mbud84 The Analisis Insitute states that the high value is because the royal members are a "unique" product which calls other countries' attention. When Danish royalty helps Danish business break through i foreign countries, it often means that the official doors stand open in a different way than it would be the case having non-royalties or presidents to represent you.
mbud84 1 year ago
your argument does not change my opinion
I love denmark, the queen and the prince consort, because they are caring and thrifty
the way mary and fred spend show that they are selfish, ego-centric, that's all.
astridbelge 1 year ago
a lot of negative reports I read are from Danish press, a reflection of danish feelings,
what's your problem with that?
astridbelge 1 year ago
@astridbelge The majority of the Danes support the Royal Family. A Swedish newspaper has surveyed people in different European countries to find out where they support their royalties the most. You find most support in Denmark and the UK with 80% in 2010, so...your point about reading newspapers and make a conclusion on that is just not enough to convince me. I study culture and national inentities in Europe which is why I found this clip anyway.
mbud84 1 year ago
those who are critical about the danish royals, like some danish press, do not mean they are republicans and do not support monarchic ideas
they are just pointing out the truth and being critical about, that's what press do.
there's nothing wrong by quoting their opinions

That is not true. There is a majority in Denmark, who would abolish the monarchy if the chance was there.

Privilege in republic can be justified, because they are obtained by merits and are potentially available to all, and under public scrutiny.
Monarchic privilege is unjust because it is hereditary because on the notion of blue blood, they are ever-lasting, and apply to all royal members, and the money they spend is not even their owe.
astridbelge 2 years ago
If you think people are against monarchy because of personal grievances, what a pathetic joke. There are many republicans from high positions. As for myself, Im from a fairly rich family and studying political science in one of Canadas best universities, we often discuss about the relevancy of monarchy in classes, thats why I have learned to be critical about it.
astridbelge 2 years ago
All these haters on this board. This family is just like everyone else, just with a different and more priveleged role in society. Quit talking about a high tax rate..What do you think Americans pay for the same services and taxes healthcare and standard of living? MUCH MORE. Americans have far less expendable income and a far worse healthcare system and education than in Denmark.
jsharitz 2 years ago
You do not excuse and justify one institution by lashing out against the flaws of others, the politicians may enjoy their privilges, because they obtained their high positions by personal merits, and deserve the privileges they enjoy, their privileges are not ever-lasting, they are gone once they are removed from office, and their wives and children do not receive massive allowances.

They travel around the world to support Danish humanitarian projects and organizations and they also promote promote Denmark in all possible ways: tourism, fashion, business, dipomacy, culture, etc.
mbud84 1 year ago
the old saying that royalty benefit tourism has long fell out disrepute, just look at all those republican countries, France, Italy and how their tourism booms :)
and only someone who loses arguments would accuse people of being jealous for being critical on these matters
astridbelge 1 year ago
@astridbelge Well, it is a fact that in the case for this country, having a royal family has been a benefit for the tourism because of the culture, traditions and old history it represents. Just because republican countries (where you can also find royal historiy and therefore castles) have had a boom in tourism, doesn't eliminate the other fact.
mbud84 1 year ago
