  • Was in high school when this came out . Been a fan ever since .

  • Cool song! Watching My Name Is Earl and this song came on at the end of the episode "Got The Babysitter Pregnant."

  • Great song!!

  • Love this song, but whoever is playing the banjo is out of tune, lol, wrong key. :p

  • I LOVE this song forever!!

  • It would've been a flawless performance had Paul layed off the awful, clammy, clashing accidentals he was using in an attempt to sound like a banjo. It distracted from the whole thing and ruined an otherwise perfect performance. From 59:00 - 1:40 and from 2:25 - until the end of the song he is using shit notes, he's too loud and covering up Landreth's slide playing.

  • this is better than the studio version. Love it

  • Man i love to see these old live performances. Thank you for posting such a great song

  • 'I always thought our house was haunted

'cause nobody said 'boo' to me' me too :-)

  • oh wow, very cool to see this, love to see those expressions on his face :P

  • does anybody hear any bango in this song or is it just me being me?

  • "She's laughing that crazy laugh"....Love it !!! John Hiatt is a master writer of music.

  • There isn't a week that goes by without me listening to this version. I've passed it along to many friends. These guys just look like they are totally into performing this song. Watch Pul get taken over by the music a few times. Just cracks me up.

  • LOVE IT!!!!!!!

  • What a rocker! Not enough Paul!

  • Completely awesome!

  • Beautiful.

  • Timeless. Excuse me while I go hit replay, again.....

  • Nice to see the exact moment of Sonnys slides technic. Its NOT the act(the red shirt guy) Its the way you play! And Sonny Does IT!

  • I saw him live after he did the rehab thing - and he was still totally in love with performing, totally joyously rocked it with the audience!

  • that was great

  • Excellent live version, these guys kicked it.

  • Discovered him late - The wreck of the Barbie Ferrari is a great song.

  • @MemphisCUSA

wreck of the barbie ferrari? what is that?

  • @pclinn Its a hilarious song about a drunken rampage w/ a shotgun, shooting Ken, Barbie and Skippy on Sunday morning. Someone needs to upload it to YT.

  • love it!

  • "Im drivin' in my car

    I've got the radio down

And I'm yellin' at the kids in the back

'Cause they're bangin' like Charlie Watts"

For my money that's one of the smartest, funniest verses in all of rock 'n' roll. I've seen John many times, but I've never heard this song performed better than it was that night in 1988 on Letterman. It made me go out the next day and buy the album. And much credit goes to one of the most melodic slide guitar players out there, Sonny Landreth.

  • fuck this is a good song!

  • this is potentially premature, but is that sonny landreth in the background?

  • Oh, yes!

  • Sonny backs him on the album, his best I think.

  • a couple of Indy boys yacking it up after the gig...

  • I kind of wish I had been born, when Hiatt was on the show. I have to say, half of what they pick for Letterman sucks now.

This is, however, my favorite Hiatt song, so it's a great find!

  • Crankin

  • great song great songwriter, nice to see people still appreciate good music,oh and letterman's band not bad either

  • This song has heart and soul, and it's great to watch the musicians get into it

  • Never appreciated much from Indiana until I came across John H. Oops -- all the corn and flatness is forgiven. :-)

  • oh, and what a trip to see dave holding up an actual ALBUM at song's end....talk about a throwback. : )

  • He did the same thing on tonight's show....(3/30/09)

  • great song. just rocks its ass off. could be my favorite hiatt song. certainly my favorite upbeat tune of his......

  • WATCH Sonny in the Right and back corner

  • not nearly enough of sonny...

  • I agree sprucebuddhas :)

Watch The Video response and myprofile There is more overthere from Slide guitar monster Sonny Landreth :-)

  • I agree sprucebuddhas! :-) Watch The Video response and mY profile for more of SLIDE GUITAR MONSTER Sonny Landreth

    ~Will

  • yeah sonny deserved a little face time there but he prolly preferred showing off his fingerwork just the same
