The opening shows what a hypocritical beast Turpin truly is. He claims to be such a righteous, pious and upright citizen, yet has no problem sentencing a poor child to hang for a relatively minor crime. If he was the sort of Godly man he claims to be, he might have remembered how Christ reacted to the woman accused of adultery.

Tim Burton is amazing, and Alice in Wonderland could have been just as amazing, but Disney is a family-company, and they couldn't let their rep be tarnished with a dark film, like the one's Burton is so famous for, so they had to edit alot of stuff. For me, Alice in Wonderland was like Burton trying to push for a darker, edgier, more meaningful film, and Disney wanted something light and happy. In this case, opposites didn't attract and the movie wasn't good.

yeah those are alan rickman (Judge in sweeney, Snape in HP) and timothy spall (Beadle in sweeney and Pettigrew in HP), but they're not the only ones from harry potter in this movie, there's Helena Bonham Carter (Mrs Lovett in Sweeney, Bellatrix in HP), there is also Jamie Campell Bower (Anthony in Sweeney, and he will play Gellert Grindlewald in Harry potter 7 soon!) Really how many else would they get in Harry Potter, ironic isn't it?

The Nightmare Before Christmas wasn't directed by Tim Burton, it was based on a poem by him, but fleshed out and directed by Henry Selick. Selick doesn't get nearly enough credit for that film, always getting overshadowed by Burton even though he's the one who did all the work!
