A lot of HATERS on here, YOU HAVE TO Start somewhere, its good to practice w/ the weight of machine, vibration and technique, OF COURSE its not like the real thing but its a start, I don't know ANY ARTIST that takes pride in messing up someone's arm/leg, that's retarded, some practice is better than NO practice.
want to get the symbol "soul" in chinese on my 4 arm. Could you tell me or explain what needles I would have to use for the liner and shaded? Thanx. Been working hard to understand the needles and setting of the gun etc. This would help.?
ahahah c'mon there's so many mistakes in this vid...i think i'm asking the apple to give me a piece,...you know: tattoo me-tattoo you ... auhauhauhauh
I am a at home tattoo artist and I still watch tattoo teaching vids an I have done a ton of tattoos on real skin on a person and I still think your never to good to keep learning things so two thumbs up and a hell yeah to this dude for sharing this vid man!
there are two types of people in this world, those that take action and those that sit back and criticize the ones actually taking action. This guy should be respected for sharing his knowlegde with you.
I dont get it...an artist with experience gives some sound advice & everyone trashes it saying he's wrong and that u have to practice on real skin. But the second a new artist starts out they get beaten down for tattooing with such little experience & get told to spend years sketching & practising. THEY CANT WIN!
Who decided u lot were the experts anyway? You can't know everything, EVERYONE has something to learn and everyone has something to teach. u dont have to agree with everything. LALL!!!
@WastingWeed obviously you are talking with little knowledge about tattooing, of course you have to learn what you do to tech it to others and this is not that case

You can get pig skin, like a piece of ham or shank or whatever and practice on that. Pig skin is very similar t human skin. I have seen tattoo artist that are just staring out actually practice on pig skin.
Fake skins suck they ae nothing like the real thing and as he said grapefruits are good for practicing lines but that's about it the only way to practice right is to use the real thing with fake skins and fruit you don't have the same elasticity you have to stretch the skin and if you don't get that right you will f**** up the whole tattoo
anyone asking about practicing on shading, use synthetic skin. there are several types availible. i prefer the more rubbery type, because it is closer to real skin. there is another type that is real dense and hard but it is not very accurate. of course, if you want real good practice, find a volenteer, or do something on your upper leg. as bad as it sounds, for good practice with nerves and skin twitching, find someone who let you tattoo their butt. the butt has alot of nerves that will jump.
every single video i watch i think sweet then i read the comments why do people watch the videos then all of a sudden become twats and post know it all comments piss off hating and start congratullating twats
has anyone tried practicing on raw steak or chicken? i've never heard of that method but it would seem to be the most realistic approach as meat is meat
@churchofruss raw steak cant hold the ink good enough. and chicken breaks apart to easy. pig skin grapefruit practice skin or human skin is the way to go
dude amazing set of vids helped me alot of practicing on fruit. One problem i was having was shading on the fruit it doesnt seem to take the ink well any more tips on shading?
the only way to practice the right way is to give up one of your leg unless you find someone that lets you practice on them there is no substitute for real skin no grapefruit will give you the feel of the real skin and how the vibration feels when its stretched properly
@samstterhamstteer Actually, the fake skins they sell now are pretty true to real skin. However, don't practice on your legs! Dude, just practice on the bottom of your foot. The tattoo falls out if you keep walking on it as it's healing.
@architectus777 how can you say fake skin is realistic nothing is as realistic as real flesh cause no matter what brand you buy it doesnt have the shape of a human being its just a similar material that lays flat on the table , and yes practice on your legs you dont have enough room to tattoo the bottom of your feet are you kidding, and if it falls off you didnt do something right kiddo
@samstterhamstteer Kiddo? Alright. I'm 32 and I worked professional for three years. None of my tats ever fell out, In fact, all the tats I gave still look vibrate as every. Hell, the one on my leg is as blood red as when it was done 18 years ago. You obviously never tattoo'd the bottom of your foot because if you did, you would know it falls out unless you don't walk and let it heal. BTW, tats also fall out of you penis unless you don't use it while it heals.
@samstterhamstteer Oh, yeah, as far as the fake skin goes, put it on your leg to get the same shape as your leg. The only downfall is that it doesn't bleed, but it is good practice. It gives the general idea and helps one get used to the gun in their hand.
very true but fruit isn't the place to start, way too different. You can buy practice skin off ebay and other places.Or,if you know a farmer/butcher,I hear pigs ears are pretty good to work with.
@Thudism ...do you actually tattoo, or are you talking out of your ass? forgive me if that sounds blunt. but synthetic skin is pretty much just whoopie cushion material with a bad chinese-made stencil stamped on it. fruit rines are closer to flesh than rubber, i would say. obviously there is just no substitute for skin, but again, you can't just grab a leg and get to business. you MUST start somewhere. if you can afford half a dead pig, great, but most beginners won't go to the trouble just yet.
I do tattoo, thank you for asking.I do agree with you that fake skin isn't a great material to work with, though it does have the advantage of not degrading and is more accurate to coulor on than, lets say,an apple.I'm not saying go out and buy half a pig, most butchers will give you pig ears for free.I also agree that you must start somewhere,I just feel that fruit is a bit iffy.I just think that, depending on the fruit, the skin will pulp(perhaps not the right word) to easily/quickly.
out of all the "how to tattoo" tutorials. This is by far the best. He really explains everything in detail and doesn't miss a step even explaining the difference of ink depth from the skin of the fruit versus real skin. Good work!!
you guys are right hes a hack ive taught myself and my uncle has taught me and ive learend what not to do and that helps find what to do and i started shadieng with a mag i cant shade with a round lol can any one show me how to color a tattoo better
he even sez dont hold it up and down ...hold it at a 45' angle and what does he show you...genius I tell you he holds it straight up and down pushin away from him....all those lines will be blown....God I gotta go...people look away ....somebody showed this guy a few things(wrong things) and now he thinks he's good enuff to teach... he's probably tattooed this way for maybe even years ...guaranteed his work is garbage ...typical midwestern scratch-hack
dont listen to this guy hes doin everything wrong from holdin the machine to put the ink in never hold the machine straight up and down or for that matter push the lines away from you if this were areal tattoo when his ink bottle fell he picked it up with his bloody hand to set it up that bottle is now contaminated and garbage dont listen to this guy at least buy huck spaulding tattooing a to z you listen to this guy and you will seriously fuck people up and possibly spread blood borne diseases
He Hangs his needle out a bit farther cause it controls the ink Flow ..YOU ONLY WORK OFF THE TIP OF THE NEEDLE hanging the needle out lets you (a) See the Needle better and (b) Slow the flow of ink from your tube to the area your working on so you dont end up with a shitload of ink and wast a million paper towels JUST REMEMBER IF YOU TRY THIS ONLY WORK OFF THE TIP OF THE MACHINE ...YOU TOUTCH THE SKIN START MOVING YOUR LINE OR SHADE TIGHT CIRCLES ..
i think teh needle is sticking out too far when in the very 'last' position. when it's the most in the back. because if it isnt back in the tube entirely, and your pushing the 'mouth' of teh tube entirely onto the skin, you get stuck..
this happens to me when i get a little ahead of myself and don't shave and clean the area well enough. also, mess with your machine setup, try different needle height adjustments from the machine itself. hope i could have been of any help :D
there isent anything specific in my opinion, everyones skin is different, start out LIGHT never go extremely deep, a tattoo can always be touched up, darkened or brighter colors to your customers request, you cant undo anything. but play with it a little and get a feel for how your clients skin is going to react to the tattoo, some skin takes ink better than others, some more stubborn, just keep practicing and find a method that works for you
If you're machine gets hot, you are running it either too fast or too long. Stop and start the machine, don't leave it running all the time. Only have it on when it's in the skin.
And bending the needle bar slightly downward (think frown instead of a smile) makes the needles hug the tube tip more, making them stay down and not jumping around in the tube.
my only problem is shading

what about pig skin intead of fruits? it is better or worst?
and how do I make my own needles, and how many time do they last?
and the last question; how do I clean the machine? with water? or it needs a specific process?

pig skin is worse man its hard to wipe and coulor.
needles your better off useing dissposables they are cheap at the mo.
the cleaning process is different for everyone its up to you id bag it when you are tattooing though.
