@catclash The shorts were an improvement already. In grade school I wore a leotard suit. With ballet shoes. My mother used to be an aspiring ballet dancer. She wanted me to follow in her shoes, both literally and figuratively. However…I was less than enthusiastic about ballet, and I hated how my mother weighed every salad leaf I wanted to put in my mouth. Unfortunately for her, she didn't have the time to supervise me all day long, and that silly leotard got tighter and tighter.

Strangely, I always thought that scene was a profound metaphor for life--it's not enough to just HAVE the gift; you have to open it. I love the way Hannah looks at Hanks with such open and naked love and adoration.

One thing I don't quite get, is that Allen and Freddie talk about Madison as if she just appeared out of nowhere. Why does Allen gloss over the fact that:

1) He first saw her up on Cape Cod, and was rescued by her after the little motorboat hit him.

2) She was found with his wallet.

This was something I didn't quite understand. But then again, this is a movie where a mermaid learns English after watching television for 6 hours, and a fully-functioning fountain is installed in Allen's bedroom.
