I met Jess Walton years ago back in 1990 at a food and beverage consumer show and thought she was a very nice lady.She admitted to me it had been extremely hard stepping in the shoes of someone as popular as Brenda Dickson was. I am glad Jess stopped copying Brenda's style.

Oh I couldn't stand it when Jess tried to copy Brenda.She was lousy then and even though she made it her own,Jill wasn't the same anymore.She lost her edge and was no longer sexy and vindictive.Jess as Jill just isn't convincing.Also Brenda and Jeanne look more alike.

I've grown to like Jess over the years, but I agree. There's just something about "her Jill" that I've never been able to fully accept. She may be the better actress of the two, but Brenda just had that certain something about her. She'll always be the real Jill to me.

We needed somebody who wasn't gonna create public scandal in the soapworld. But I agree no one could replace Brenda. Jess is wonderful though!

This is the opening Y&R should have kept forever and it was even more fun when you saw these shots in the bumpers and endings before everything had to change.

For 1989deejay, I think the answer to your question is because in 2003, the CBSDaytime President's changed. The former CBSDaytime President was in charge of CBSDaytime from 1989-2003 and the current one has been in charge since 2003 and 2003 was the first year we no longer saw any Soap Classics from back in 80's and 90's.

I think it was because when Brenda Dickson played Jill during the mid 80's, the character was campy and dramatic in the way she talk and dress, and Jess was still new in the role, so she probably was trying to fill the spot left by Brenda. Of course now Jess has made the character her own.

This is the updated version, the original one had Eileen Davidson as Ashley getting a rose and didn't have Brittney in it.
