i guess it's preferable to put it in the 2nd gear, i have a 400 cbr aero and i've done this over a million times.. i mean for really dead batteries 2nd gear is better, just like with cars
@FlAvIuS861 try bump starting a husaberg 650 fs single cylinder supermoto a 4 cyclinder sports bike has 1/10 of the compression of my husaberg now thats a bitch
(this makes push starting easier as gravity is on ur side.
3 Also get the bike in second or third gear as its easier to push the bike in higher gears + it's not as hard on the bike.
4 turn the bikes power on just before u start to push (this will mean that when u were pushin he bike to the incline you will have already started charging it)
5 as u push (at at least 8mph) you need to push the start button whilst dumpin the clutch and revving the accelerator) make sure you pull the clutch back i
My battery just died tonite. Tried jump starting it (twice) died as soon as I added gas. Tried push starting it, engine wouldn't turn over. Gonna have to leave it at work and buy a new battery in the morning.
@molokoww1 Yes you should most likely choke it, but immediately shift in to neutral once you get it running and stop to let it warm up. Riding with the choke on will cause engine damage and trying to ride without the choke before the bike is warmed up can cause it to stall and make you fall over.
depends on the bike, 2nd gear usually better, be carefull when doing this though, easy to fall over with the bike if you dont know what your doing, personally I push whilst running next to the bike, unless i'm near a downhill. have heard of peoples bikes shooting away from them too with this technique lol
it's sunday and no bike shop is open where i live, my bike won't start plase give me a hint, my killswitch is not on and when i try to start it it won't even make a clack clak noise liek it would normaly do when i try to start it, i keep it in my sheid and i left my ligths on for liek 20 mins, maby low batery? i left the choke on half way by accdent when i got off maby i flodded it? or caused a short curcet? any info would help thanks, so much if you can getback to me btw love the vids.
you should do this in second, as it takes less force to get the engine spinning(although the engine will not spin as fast)
newer bikes require some energy in the battery to get spark out of the coils and to charge the battery(so you may have to try this a few times to get enough power in the battery to charge the coils.)
never toe your bike to get up to speed, even having someone push you is hard because they will more than likely not push you correctly and push you off to the side.
Do you need a key in all bikes or just this one to do this, it wouldn't be good if you don't need the key that means anyone can do it even some one who doesn't own it
first gear? dude, do it few times and you can leave your bike in the scrap yard. NEVER EVER PUSH YOUR BIKE WHEN ON 1ST GEAR< YOU'LL BREAK YOU GEAR BOX!!!
if your battery is "dead" your bike will not even run if you push start it they are not like cars.... looks like you had a good amount left on your battery... This is how you start a bike when the STARTER or STARTER CLUTCH is not working not the battery
it should actually be done in second gear because A. if you drop the clutch and blip the throttle the bike will usually flip on you and B. second gear has a lower ratio meaning it will "bump" further than when doing it in 1st and will make it easier to start "stubborn" bikes :P
Good instruction. I'd also recommend 2nd gear. 1st gear with a larger bike might be a little more risky whe nthe engine ticks over. I have to pop the clutch on my bike quite a bit. Trickle charger purchase me thinks.
@The420Projeckt why you can't put 2nd gear? Sometimes it resists to get to 2nd gear, but all I need to do is to move the bike forward just a bit, like one step or even half a step will do it. I only have small bikes though, I don't know if it's a whole other thing with bigger ones.
i think to avoid misshappes or too much of a kick , you should do it in second gear , some bikes might respond with too much of a kick start in first gear if you let go of the clutch too fast
I prefer to put the bike in the seccond gar, becuse thats easyer for the gearbox!! Its just more easyli fo you and you do not even need hill or something like that! just doze it powerfull!

I couldnt manage it but the rac guy said go to top of small incline, 2nd gear with clutch in then release as the bike is rolling past 8mph.

in almost immediately after dumping it other wise when u use the accelerator it will jump out of your hands)
6, if ur going down hill u may want to sit on the bike and bring it to speed with help from jr feet.
Thumbs up if u thought this was more helpful

Two things.
1, ur battery wasn't dead so that didn't show how the bike behaves when push starting.
(it judders alot and if u don't let the clutch out quick enough the back tyre may skid
2. You should push start it in 2nd or 3rd as its easier to push + not as much danger of the bike jumping out of your hands.
You didn't even explain how to do it properly or tips ie..
Turn the lights off + anything else that drain he battery...
try pushing the bike uphill or to somewhere there's a downhill (t

@702xRyder: it should work on a quad, although I'd suggest rolling it down a hill, as a quad will be harder to get started pushing.
