Sorry I thought of another thing after watching again-wld it make a huge diff if you had popped up the red in his shirt before the adjustment layer-I happen to like the ton es madee by RED clothes in B&W
Since all colors of skin comprise of Red and Yellow, If I had bumped the red to the right, yes the shirt would have been lighter but so would his skin, and my objective here was for rich and dark.
I love your vids and have learned so much from you but heres a question of aesthetics-that glowingly white t-shirt to me detracts from his handsome face so if I wanted it toned down wld I go in with a 14% grey layer or is there another way to tone down the T?
yeah, good eye! I thought about the white white shirt after the fact. A gray layer would only make it gray, I'd have to do something b4 hand to preserve the detail. I'll let ya know!
If you're a photographer then you are familiar with the terms high key and low key and when we post process these images we do some tweaking to push the image more toward whichever style was in mind at the shoot. This photo was NOT shot in low key, and I think the result is what makes it interesting, because it appears as if it was shot with the low key intent.
i wanted to do this long before because i saw it on a digital art show. it never came to my mind that something so simple looking also requires a simple approach.
Guess it's a subjective thing...why do many white people get tan from the sun or go get spray tanned. I think there is a richness to darker skin in some cases. I will take your comment as of being your personal taste rather than being of a racist nature, which I hope it was not!
Yes, it may be subjective. The comment was more tongue-in-cheek than anything. However, I've never heard of someone trying to make a "white" person...more "white."
that China Doll white make up for really porcelain skin look or the Geisha look. Or back in history in some European countries, that white white makeup (for both men and women) had it's era of vogue.
Great job.

Hey, I love your videos, but I've got a question.
What if the picture had been shot in a grey background? I tried everything, but it didn't work.
thanks!

Sorry, I have no idea! When one has Photoshop, there's really no point in using a different image editor.

Reminds me of the news photo of OJ Simpson some years ago. Why do people want to make brown people look MORE black is beyond me.

What's wrong with more black? If she wanted to make him more white you wouldn't have a problem.

I'd have questioned making the person more white as well.
