Though we could say that there is a safer way of doing it, by keeping an angle of 45-70 degrees between your humerus and the side of your body.

Agree. Physio manuals state that when the humerus is greater than 70 degrees from the side of the body, in an internally rotated position, it impinges the head of the humerus in the acromion process.
Keeping the armpit angle greater than 70 degrees does recruit more pectoral muscle fibres though as it places a greater stretch on the pectorals, which results in a stronger contraction as one pushes up due to using the stretch-reflex property.
that doesn't really matter. In fact the wider your hands are the more u work the chest triceps and upper back muscles. when u bring your hands closer together you target mainly your triceps and inner chest. When doing pushups you should mix up your hand width, you can start wide and bring it in. say 10 wide grip pushups followed by 10 regular and lastly 10 narrow grip.
i understand that a controled motion should be kept through out the whole contraction, eccentric and concentric, but why is this so? im curious, to what the scientific evidence behind it really is. does a controlled movmement with the same timing on the concentric and eccentric work best? or does a faster concentric contraction work best? ive also read that the negative repetition has been reported gaining more muscular developement when it a fast almost explosive contraction. any comentonthis?
