I was born in the wrong generation. Don't get me wrong-- I like bands today, (save "rap" or this "hip-hop" crap) but I wish I would have grown up listening to amazing artists... scratch that... composers, like Frank Zappa.
@xXAnnelieseMichelXx I don't give a fuck about how old are you. It's great you have good taste, but I don't give a fuck about your age, and anyone's here.

@chuckbyf1 yo i dont know if causaltySR meant substance as in substance abuse.i took it as no substance as in guitar playing,as to me there is no comparison,Ted cannot touch Frank when it comes to the guitar.i will admit i'm biased, though.either way both Frank and Ted did not imbibe in drugs.besides his guns,Ted also loves his crossbow!

Holy shit, listen to that opening riff. Zappa could have been successful at any type of music humanely imaginable. I agree with the statement about Clapton, "he did to blues what kenny g did to jazz." Good analogy. Clapton obviously has great technical skill, but I find it lacking in soul. Just my opinion.
@MostlyInhuman Dude, its allright if you dont like clapton, but comparing him to kenny g was really mean. kenny g is one of the worst things that ever happened to music.
@MostlyInhuman Clapton's still playing the same licks he was playing in the Yardbirds. The only vaguely interesting stuff he did was in Cream, where he was being dragged out of his comfort zone. To be fair, though, Clapton's always been puzzled by the "Clapton is God" business, and maintains he's never been the greatest guitarist in the world. (Hendrix or Jeff Beck must surely take that crown?). Back on topic: tremendous solo here from FZ!
I think muffins (the bakery variety) were a staple of his diet as much as the famous gourmet burnt weenie sandwiches that he cooked over the gas stove.
Pretty cool -- looks like he's using a wireless system, which is pretty wild considering this was 1977. Must have been a very early system -- maybe a prototype Nady or something? The white box hooked to his guitar strap behind his shoulder must be the transmitter.
It's because he was different, and stupid people ignore the "new" ideas frank zappa had, so they set him apart, and the "GODS" were page and clapton and hendrix, and they all did the same music, mostly.
clapton is fucking boring and he did to blues what kenny g did to jazz - cleaned it up for stupid bland wine sniffers. zappa's guitar playing was always inventive and interesting. look at this solo. clapton couldn't make a guitar sound like that if his life depended on it.
Frank Zappa, by far, one of the best guitarists ever. Just look at his fingers go and the sounds that come out of that guitar amp. Even if he's dead since 1993, he's still one of my favorite guitarists.

0:58 --Love Zappa. I see where Omar Rodriguez gets his tone from, especially in the John Frusciante solos on Cygnus...Vismund Cygnus, track two from Frances the Mute. Awesome
Frank Zappa definitly did his very own style and had a great influence on the musikscene, aswell as on me and my taste of music. I begun loving Zappa when I was a 5 year old, my dad regulary put it on and I discovered the beauty of this at first strange sounding music. Now I am as often as possible at the annual "Zappanale" in Bad Doberan - Germany. I am so sad he is gone...in my opinion a genius.
Zappa is simply awesome, and that in so many ways: as a guitarist, as a songwriter\composer, as a humorist, as a satyrist! I'm so sorry I never got the chance to see him live or meet him. Damn, you can learn so much from this guy!
I"ve always had a question about the Muffin man, is he made of muffins or does he just selll them? Apparently theres this huge debate over on the rawrdollierawr channel
"Muffin Man" is an insult to a man who can't uh, give a woman sexual satisfaction.
"Girl, you thought it was a man, but he was a muffin. You hung around til you found that he didn't know nuthin'." and "No cries was heard in the night as a result of him stuffin'."
Tell your friends on the rawrasdfhdfioh channel to listen again. It's true.
As awesome as this piece is, I think his "Black Napkins" guitar rendition he performed that same night was even better.
Also, the low-fidelity audio on this vid really doesn't do the DVD any kind of justice. Some of the high notes sound strangely muted. That DVD is a must-have, Zappafans.
This vid is a great teaser, but there's just no substitute for the real thing.
this isnt a GREAT solo by any means, but god id rather listen to this all day than anything clapton did

Love this song. Why Frank is not mentioned among the best of the best of Rock guitar players is beyond me.
