  • This sounds amazing, absolutely no lie<3

I'm going to try and see if I can get the sheet music so I can play it in my concert band class. C:

  • Somebody is tone deaf and it is not the musicians.

Expletives have been deleted from this opinion as an act of kindness.

How would this concerto sound if musical notes were played with completely different sets of instruments?

  • i think ive asked something stupid, i searched wikipedia and i found that the common Bb clarinet goes down to a Eb.. so why is it called Bb and not Eb then?? my flute is tuned in C and the lowest note is a C and not an F....

  • @ericoschmitt The Bb is called Bb because it is a tone below concert pitch. ie. play a C, sounds a Bb.

  • @frenchy64 yeah but as i have said: my flute is tuned in C and the lowest note is a C

the same position that makes a D on my flute sounds like a G on clarinet (and i mean real G, which clarinet players would call an A).

the same for C on flute, makes a F on clarinet

there are flutes tuned in C with a low B extention, so why isnt the clarinet called "clarinet tuned in F with Eb extention"?

i just cant get that.. the scale on the clarinet starts on the middle of the instrument, not on the low note

  • @ericoschmitt the pitch of the instrument is based off the pitch that sounds when the instrument plays a C on it. For example, a C on a concert flute sounds concert C, therefore it is a C flute. a C played on a Bb clarinet sounds concert Bb, therefore it is a Bb clarinet. a C played on an alto saxophone sounds concert Eb, therefore it is an Eb alto saxophone. The fingerings remain the same to accommodate people who are doublers.

  • @shaylenmusic thats not the doubt i had back then.. i know how transposing instruments work, i have played trumpet and horn.

The question was all because i didnt knew the clarinet overblows in 12th. so, the second register actually calls a D the same position of a D on sax and flute. but on the low register it is a G. But the point is, if the chalumeu register is actually in Eb, and the clarion in Bb, why isnt the clarinet named after the fundamental register's tuning? that was the question

  • what kind of clarinet is used to play it? ive tried on my flute, but i need an Eb (and my flute goes down to C only) is it an Eb clarinet? that also means common Bb clarinets cant play this piece....

on my flute i have to tune one octave higher almost all the passages.....

  • it is so beautiful I like it!!

  • talent os beauty

  • que hermoso sonido!!

  • where is the rest of the orchestra? Missing the woodwinds and brass plus timps.

  • Your tonguing doesn't sound right 2:50-2:53 and 2:56-2:58, try to add more pressure when you play and your tonguing will be perfect. Otherwise very nice sound.

  • carl maria von weber is a german componist

this song was written 1811 in würzburg

  • THIS IS NOT A FUCKING SONG!!!!

  • I have some questions for all you fans :)

    1. Who is the composer/ Who is the performer

    2. What is the piece of music, opus number/info?

    3. When was it written/When was it recorded

    4. Where was it written (if known)/

    5. Whats your opinion

    Thanks :)

  • I admit that I knew little about Weber when I found his piano piece 'Invitation to the Waltz' in a book of popular piano pieces at home. I'm now beginning to appreciate what a truly influential composer he really was. This piece is incredible!

  • the guy plays very well

  • Nice tone, poor interpretation, this clarinetist doesn't realize the solo is actually two opera singers conversing, soprano and tenor. Also needs to work a bit on his technique and his tempos are too slow.

  • ??? Ahh! Where's the horn at 8:00???

Maybe this is just a version I haven't heard before, but every other that I've heard has the most amazing horn part right there! It's my favorite part of the piece. :(

Hey, I like this guy's tone. Last note, yes, was a little "ewwy," but overall, a very nice performance! I like acoustics of the area it was played in, too. :)

  • my favorite too!

  • agreed! I love that horn part!! looks like they dont have a horn in this ensemble though... :(

  • @vandorenspaz

There is no horns in this orchestra, a shame because the (orchestral) interpretation is nice. The clarinetist did well, btw!

  • sound very nice

  • Lots of respect to the guy who played this, and thanks for uploading this song to youtube. =)

  • ooh, very pretty.

he could have improved his dynamic expression, and his tone may have been too coppery. and yes, some technical stuff, but aside from that, a really great performance! me encanta.

  • Beautiful. I would have loved to hear this live, the soloist has such a great tone.

He played well throughout the whole piece; however, he did have a few "bad spots". On a few occasions he tapered the end of some notes. His last note was a little "ewwy". Other than those little flaws, it was a wonderful performance! (Orchestra also did nicely)

  • the sound of this clarinet is so loveable - amazing!

and the concert is a great composition, all kinds of feelings are included

  • this is my audition piece and i love it

  • I love this piece. It is my audition piece for IUP Honors. I am really excited to play it.

It is played very well here. And to that one person who thinks he is trying too hard-thumbs down.

If you actually feel the music, you are going to be moving around. I bet he didn't even notice he was swaying until he watched the video.

    5 stars.

  • Wow.

    I love it.

I play clarinet, so *respect* all around here. =)

    C-NETS!

  • I'm learning this piece! I'm hoping to sound this good..... probably won't but... hey lots of practice!

    WONDERFUL!

  • that was pretty good.

but where were the french horn cues?! omg they like.. totally set up the whole new "introduction" to the ending before the big bam. instead, there was like a huge pregnant pause! lol. either way, still was pretty great. ill give it a 5

  • no wonder 8:03 sounded so familiar, i had to play that for the audition for TKMEA honor band in '09.

    kewl beans

  • way nar

  • beautiful*

  • i just bought this piece and i love it already. u have amazing tone. it was beaytuful. :D

  • if i can sound like this guy for texas solo and ensemble in may, thats a 1 for sure.

  • wathc weber concertino with manuel gangl and lithuanain orchestra

  • very good!

  • very good congratulations clarinetist

  • I think I have my copy still, somewhere.. I can try and find it for you! If not..try Ebay.. That's where I bought my copy

  • Great clarinet player and wonderful orchestra!

    Bravissimi!

  • Good Staccato. Plus very controlled fingers and sound 5 stars

  • Que uaaaaaaaaay

    :D

  • I love this video!!!!!!!!!!

  • i love this piece! variation 1 is so fun to play :-)

  • hey guys im working on this piece but i dont get how in mesure 28 the forte creshendos into a piano! help please!

  • What do you mean?

The transition from measure 27-28 is a decrescendo from forte to piano, which continues through 28 until pianissimo is reached. Since measure 28 begins with a trill from G# to A, a minor crescendo leading into the decrescendo is near unavoidable. After that, the volume should diminish quickly into measure 29, and then diminish slightly more into a pianissimo.

  • this was great and all but i hate accompanying somebody. it's boring for the orchestra and only exciting for the soloist and the audience.

  • yeah, you're right. Stupid audience... they shouldn't even show up. How dare they come to something they WANT to see...

  • so wat. the orchestra gets paid and they love their job. so they prolly get some sort of personal satisfaction by playing in this.

  • good song... several things i didn't like was his adding of notes in several locations where the clarinet should be silent. otherwise he nailed the performance wonderfully and his technique was great.

  • what the holy fuck are you on about? This piece was performed brilliantly with all the standard "added notes" that are generally performed by everyone who learns this piece (with a good teacher)

  • @funks101 Not that I don't agree that this was performed brilliantly, but the version I'm playing from right now has some extra turns (and I think a couple of extra measures after the triplet part) in it.

  • this is very good, his sound quality is nice. i would have liked to see more emotion though. XD

  • Me encanta esta obra y tu interpretación, has conseguido emocionarme! Un gran trabajo, enhorabuena!!

  • nice

  • Very nice, I'm hoping to use this as an audition piece and listening to this helped.

  • nice tone, but the interpretation is a bit boring i think...

  • very nice tone....

  • Very nicely done. I don't get the problem some have with your embouchure. I can't see anything wrong and your sound is fine. (Better than Drucker's in his Concertino video here.) The ensemble is excellent also. You should post who they are. At 8:00 the conductor should have given the horn notes to the viola/cello. Glaring hole there.

  • Omg.

I read this comment. . and didn't think much of it.

    i minimized the window,

and when the song got to that horn part,

    I started laughing out loud.

    omg.

    ROFL.

    Awkwardest thing ever.

    *still laughing*

They conductor couldn't have like. . .sang it?

  • very good. I'm playing this piece for an exam... this interpretation gives me a lot of ideas... thank you for this beautiful moment!

  • Wow, truly an exceptional performance! It really has inspired me to play this piece even more!

  • Wonderful sound jorge!

  • brilliant ^_^

  • That was great! Does anyone know what reed size would be best to play this song?

  • it all comes down to personal choice. I prefer a size 4.25 Vanderon Rue Lepics. But that's only because my mouthpiece warrants it. I use 5RV Vandoren.

  • OH, and I really liked the accompanyment.

it was very simple and clean, which really brought out the operetic nature of the piece.

  • Eh, good playing!

I didn't like the interpretation at all though. your technique is good. your embouchoure(spelling's off i know) is awkward though...

  • ok..I came across a coment on page 2 that yamaha is better then buffet..haha!:D aaam...just think about it for a second..yamaha or buffet?:D you even cant compare those 2 brands!omg your performance is not bad though...

  • buffet ftw!

  • Monopoly FTL!

We need a competitive market to drive down costs and insure quality.

I strongly support Everyone but Buffet Crampon, and Vandoren.

(I play on a Buffet R13 Prestige, with a Vandoren Optimum ligature ...-__-...Hypocrite much? Maybe...but still, market needs more competition.)

  • lol fair enough, but buffet and vandoren do make quality ligatures and clarinets. But I do understand where you are coming from!

    LeBlanc and Selmer are nice^^

  • I play on a rovner ligiature, is that good compared to Vandoren Optimum or how is it?

  • I switched from a Rovner to an Optimum (plate #1). I felt gave me a larger, more vibrant sound without increasing the brightness.

  • i just played this piece and i sucked but at least i can admit that, he is very good and Concertino sounds much better when played with strings verses an electric piano in a high school classroom, solo and ensemble. but whatever i'm only in 8th grade.

  • I am not a fan of the interpretation, especially of the first variation, but he plays wonderfully.

I do like the finale though, it's a very nice interpretation played very well.

    What edition is the music?

  • That was excellent.

  • he played so well, excellent interpretation.

you are jealous by makin fun of him, assholes.

  • Is this guy a proffesional player?

  • wow i would love to see your video of weber's concertino i love this piece and would love to see a performance of it better than that especially from a musician as young as you

  • when i was in tenth grade i scored a 99 on this piece and made all state (this is for NY also). i admire his interpretation and technique, and i don't have the audacity to even think that i would do better than him in performance.

  • wow... how stuck up canm they get??!?!?!?

  • It's not bad. BUT there's no music on it. Do more rubato! If you feel the music It will be done. Keep watch the intonation(f and last f3) and legato! Listen to Mr A. Carbonare :). Apologize to my english :). Greetings

  • This is very nice performance! I'll be performing the "Concertino" for the Concerto Competition that my university hosts. I'm also opening my senior recital with this piece. You do some great things with this that I have not hear others do. I'm doing the Muczynski as well, Id like to hear your version.

As for Yamaha being better than Buffet--it is all preference. His last note sounded like an "F" but it was probably a rough intonation moment from him as a performer.

    Good job!

  • nice work. i bet you play buffet clarinet :) last f was not exactly f :p yamaha is better i think.

  • This was very well done. I must admit that don't agree with most of the interpretations, but it was very well done nonetheless.

I speak as a physics grad student, so I guess my interpretations of the Concertino wouldn't be as good as someone as accomplished as this guy.

  • completely different interpretation, it think its great

  • Very nice. I'm a sophomore music ed. student at South Carolina, and I'm doing the Concertino for the spring semester. Hopefully I can get somewhat to that level, lol.

  • does he play bar 79 and 80 with first conventional fingering for bflat or does he anywhere in that bar use an alternate fingering?? (maybe for b flat and or for d also)

  • Bravo! too bad about the celli and basses.

  • people who talk about themselves on a video of someone else playing it beautifully obviously have some ego/immaturity issues.

this is really really well done.

  • the 15 explain ure hyperbel ;)

  • I am playing that solo for solo/ensemble this year but on alto.

If I could do it that good, definite superior. :)

  • u dont have to stay still =-= he's so into the music that he's moving

  • dude you move WAY TOO MUCH

    stand still

  • standing still is UN-NATURAL if you are really into the music which he obviously is.

  • You should have seen me perform the Mozart Clarinet Concerto with my orchestra. I did fine (I think), but I wanted to crawl into a hole somewhere when I saw a video of my performance.

  • theres really nothing wrong with moving and expressing yourself to the music.

some players prefer standing like a rock and showing no emotion. others prefer expressing it.

so thanks for your ignorance. really.

  • I wanted to say that YOU interpret this pierce very well and not me! LOL

  • BRAVO! I'm also playing this pice, it's very beautiful and I interpret it very well.

  • well well done:)

  • this has to be the best version of this song on youtube. really good job.

  • I liked most of it, until the grace note section at the end...the smoothness of the transitions between the grace notes and the following notes could have been better overall...nice work, careful of intonation near the end...don't become tired

  • love this. great job. congrats! im playing this for regions and all-state, but i dont have the runs nearly as fast as you have them yet.

  • could be the recording too that makes it less vivid

  • All very nice.. but the intonation could be more vivid. My teacher spent 2 lessons on intonation. you know like "Have feelings"

    and "Think of a woman"

  • What is this nonsense? Intonaton, vivid?!?! Play in tune like a woman?!?! What's up with that?

  • Sorry, had a stroke of stupid while writing that, or something like that.

  • oh my god that was amazing im currently playing this piece and it is really hard, of course im only 13 but i like to push myself(i played mozarts clarinet concerto in a, the adagio movement last year and got a superior)the runs in the end are rea;;y hard to play right and the rythms in the beggining are pretty hard.

  • I think this playing is amazing too. and what kind of a professional who's played for 12 years doesn't even know how to spell JAZZ, you retard. Obviously, you need to stop criticizing others and start working on your own musicianship or language problems for that matter.

  • Wow. This is your 3rd abusive comment. Stop commenting if you don't have anything better to say. You calim to be a student of USC, yet it doesn't seem like you know the English language very well(referring to your myriad of spelling errors). Before spouting more of your arrogant crap, put a video of yourself playing this piece. I personally thought jvariego's playing was amazing.

  • Nice job! Work for a lighter staccato. Tone is nice. Emboucher is fine-ignore that guy who said otherwise.

  • Hey this is the song that Im doing for all of my auditions into honor bands!!!

  • awesome im practising soooo hard to be like you !!

  • Listen i don't want to come out like a hater becuase I'm not but, I have been playing clarinet at a prof. level for about 12 years ranging from jass to classical as well as the sax and man your your ombasure is all off which is preventing from you having the sound you want other than that i have listened to a lot of these guys on youtube and you're pretty musical and i think you can hear music pretty well man but deffinatly need to work on the lip structure

  • umm, if you wanna talk about that, at least know how to spell Embouchure, and i think his embouchure is just fine...it varies from person to person because of mouth structure, so there is no "right" embouchure....but what would i know, i'm only a student of Alan Kay, taught by Leon Russianoff, who was taught by the first clarinetist in the New York Phil...but whatever

  • wow. why r u making fun of him??. i beat you cant do better than him.

ps: go to pre school dumb butt. jass =-= itz jazz moron. obiviously ur 12yrs was a lie or u failed becoming a musician.

  • watch out for the performance by liam harman. coming soon.

  • this is probably the best rendition of weber op 26 on youtube

  • srry, *all this year, not asll this your

  • wow, you are amazing, im playing this song asll this your for auditions for, nj area band, nj region band, and the all-state band, but im not even close to being as good as you, probably b/c im only 15, lol

  • I won the Junior level Music Teachers National Association Competition with this piece and I got a $1000 check as a prize. My state's president of music gave me $150 as a support gift, but I used that money to get my clarinet teacher a $700 dinner as a thank you and I used the rest to buy a xbox 360

I am perfect at it,well, almost. At the finalist performance,I missed only two notes at the ending(SHIT!). I still have the recording

  • Wow. He is great. This piece is HARD.

  • this is pretty good... but check out the john manasse recording - it's just amazing

  • your playing is exquisitley extravagant and with such elegance. i want to play like you some day....not to far away

  • Superb !

  • yes - very nice tone!!!:) really nice:) i thought it was German system at first:) Excellent!

  • i'm playing this in band. and you make us look like a joke. haha nice job.

  • very nice indeed

  • wow amazing !!!!!!!

  • w o w

  • Bravo! Nice job, that piece takes you through many different aspects of clarinet playing, and you have a marvelous sound and nice techinque! Congratulations. No horns in the orch I guess, but that empty bar near the end- couldn't the conductor have had violas, cellos and basses play that "Dum duga dum Dum dum dum" before your F major arpeggios? That bar was jarring! Not your (brother's) fault, though. Great job, thanks!

  • i have this piece and foud some errors:

the beginning of the clarinet solo is meant to come out of silence, not a steady mp

he doesnt understand what the turns are meant to sound like (where the turn appears half way between the minum and the quavers)

and yes, dont touch yourself in places while soloing

the ending was done nicely, considering the technicality

    otherwise a standout performance

  • Just a few suggestions... take or leave them... make sure you start your trills slowwly and accelerate them in this style of music; don't touch your face, etc when you are the soloist, it is a bit distracting. You are doing pretty well otherwise. Thanks for posting it.

  • I have played professionally as well as being taught by some of the best. You have done an Excellent job. Critics abound in this world like a plague, usually they can't play well themselves. You have a lovely tone. I enjoyed it and the majority rules. We like it!

  • Very good, but I feel you are being led by the orchestra rather than the other way around. Make certain the conducter knows you are in charge. Listen to the Anthony Pay rendition. He's leading them. von Weber is meant to be molto "schmaltissimo" if you know what I mean. Exaggerate everything to the delight of the audience!

  • muy bien esi es como se toca ese concierto VIVA weber y el clarinete

  • Amazing. Tone is great as well as stage presence. You move arround, almost dance to the music which makes it a lot more interesting to watch; Lots of performers just stand there and look like they're being tortured.

  • I'll be playing Muczynski's Time pieces next June and I'll surely upload the version after the concert.

  • wonderful performance. i really like your tone.

  • I really like your Tone. I would love to hear you Play Robert Muczynski's Time Pieces. or Rossini's Intro, Theme and Wariations. or better yet one of my favs. Messager's Solo de concours. Bravo again!! Love this piece and you performed it exteremely well.

  • I've just finished my masters in composition and clarinet.

  • are u currently going to college or have a professional job?

  • im curious..what equipement do you play on?

  • In the videos I use an R13 with a 5rv lyre mouthpiece, and 3 1/2 (v12) or 3 (blue box ones), but now I am using an M13 with 4's (v12). Jorge.
