  • I learned that many races and cultures were used as slaves or virtual slaves, esp Irish and Scots by English, but including poor English children too, and their parents.

    Jews of course. Many others.

However, I much ack that post-Emancipation conditions reverted in America, and persecution endured until the early 1960s, or else there would have been no need for a Civil Rights Act.

Today, there are racist whites and racist blacks, but a heck of a lot of social prestige for blacks too.

  • every race were slaves damn ppl can be dumb go to school and find out and read stop trying to act like we was the only slaves the reason why its so talk about because it was the most recent and it was the last of slavery in a couple thousand years it will be new a breed of slaves i think it will be proably caucasian and that will be talked about

  • i always knew taught about slavery through blk american indian and european ancestory up bringing. but the moment I really realized the impact that it would for ever have on my life was when I first saw or heard about the Wiz. I remember thinking to myself "My goodness a blk Wizard of Oz is needed cos there were none in the movie how rediculous, mankind is really horrible and I have to live with this bunk " I was maybe 8 or 9

  • all three of you are hot . very good looking

  • i think our people dont remember enough about our past ie slavery. keeping your past in mind always remind you that you should strive to not repeat it. besides i dont see anyone telling those fake jews to forget what took place with hitler. 6 million cant compare with 99 million no matter how you look at it.

  • My people were enslaved too. The word slave comes from the word slav.... Why do you continually dwell on this? By doing so you rob yourselves of your future... Yes, remember, but do not dwell...

  • I hate to say it but continuing to dwell upon this issue will only inspire the worst in people, Black tribal leaders sold their own to customers; the dutch slave ships, colonial whites bought them. White colonials made a mistake, it's been corrected, youre alive in a great country now because of it. no-one on her should apologize for what they didn't do..thanks for your opinion..but please MOVE ON...enjoy the 28000 days you have on this earth instead of dwelling on what you never experienced

  • there is nothing wrong with studying one of the many injustices and savage things that white supremacy has bestowed upon this earth. don't try to tell people to forget their history. slavery happened back then and no matter how much white people want to deny it, it HAS affected the way things are today. so it's not so much as dwelling on something but trying to find out how it shaped the way things are today and how to fix it.

  • Did I deny that it happened, no.. Firstly, the white suprememcy ideal had nothing to do with the institution of slavery already taking place in Africa. Slavery was already going on in Aftica at the time, most were captives from other tribes , the trading companies wanted to make profits and aided in the horrible practice of slavery. Secondly, slavery in history does play a part today, but this video does not do it justice "if we were counceled for this" it might change things, bullshit....

  • Wile I agree that it is a hard thing to find out that your ancestors were once slaves, this video does not do any justice, if anything it furthers segregation. Slavery still exists today in Africa, Asia, and the underground in Europe and Americas...do you think do you think anyone in this video is doing anything to prevent that from happening..I certainly hope so, but doubt it. The history of slavery should be studied and properly portrayed to youths, so nothing like it happens again...

  • The problem I have is that while I believe these types of questions should be asked and explored, this video (done in this fashion) breeds hostility. For her to jump directly to making excuses at the end completely illegitimizes the rest of the video. Not to mention that it isn't explored at all how the news was broken to these two gentlemen, nor how properly informed they are about history, many people seem to only know or pay attention to the stereotypes expressed briefly in this video...

  • Please feel free to respond, I do feel that you may have gotten the wrong idea from my original post, which wasn't about forgetting your history, but laying out the facts of what took place, and that we are living in the present. That we need to learn from the past, enjoy the present, and do what we can to make the present better for the future. Re-reading it now my original post may easily be taken as hostile, would have been able to better explain if the word-count were expanded....

  • Why don't you tell the Jews that?

  • @Moody1995

Is that sarcasm and what portion of what I said were you referring to? I made 5 comments with a lot of information in each... so you're going to have to give me a little more information than "Why don't you tell the Jews that?" for me to respond to that....

  • @Moody1995

been almost a week now still waiting for a response.... so I'm going to guess that you were just being a smart-ass and don't care to hold up your end in a conversation....it's too bad.... I don't mind explaining my stance on any issue... but please do yourself and others a favor, don't just post smart-ass comments unless you're willing to back them up with a debate or conversation.... save it for humorous videos/subjects and non-serious issues....

  • @jsjs525

with all the respect but, are you caucasian?

the reason why i am asking is that i can tell from your post that you have mis-informed.

one more thing, if you really wanna understand slavery, racism, or colonialism, you need to be open minded. dont be too quick to be biased towards a certain group (either the master or the slave) and try to defend it because by doing so, you will miss out on certain issues therefore making it difficult to truly appreciate the intensity of the situation

  • if you are caucasian then your knowledge about slavery, racism and colonialism will only depend what someone is saying and in this case the account of the slave/colonial master. but, we all know that it is the nature of man to never admit when he's wrong so he does whats in his power to justify his wrong deeds.

why cant you open your heart and your mind and look at the world exactly the way it is? right now Jewish Holocaust (around 300000) is "celebrated" more than black holocaust (over 60 mil)

  • the point i am trying to make here is that, nobody wants to listen to the darker people of this world yet everyone can come up on youtube and try and justify slavery by saying messed up staff like "your chiefs sold you" or "slavery was going on in Africa before we came" if you truly want an almost-honest account of slavery and its impacts, why dont you listen to the people who actually lived it? you cant read books written (to make them feel better) by the oppressor and think you know it all

  • Again I would understand your dislike for this comment, but it is History, and best solutions are look to the future but don't forget. Just out of interest, after highlighting the issues in this video, what would you suggest is the solution to the problem?

    Regards.

  • thats a very white view on it. The problem is that lots of non-black people just see it as history, but slavery left us without anything, it has become like our "culture" in a way, why we talk the way we do, eat what we do, feel how we do... It's the molding of our souls as black people, slavery is who we are and it will always be a piece of us, but white people who ignore it and say its the past or ignoring us and our past. I just wish people would think about it more...

  • (comment 2/3/2) But anyway thanks for your platform. Have a good day. It's just an observation of mine, whenever I turn on the TV, I enjoy the comedy that comes across from America, until somebody pops a joke about race, and when I compare it to UK comedy, I think that's unnecessary. If I had one sentiment for this video, as rude as this would seem given the current topic, it would be 'Lighten Up'.

  • Comment 4/3 (Yes I overran sorry.)

I say this only because I never hear a peep about slavery from black people in the UK. Just America. Seems somehow fashionable to shout racism when you're luck is down, but in the mean time you have 'icons' and 'role models' like 50 cent glamorising guns, rape, and mistreatment of women.

That's the now, and you're complaining about slavery, which is, history?

Please look at the whole picture.

  • i do love your comment great points, but in the uk specially there's more racism there than America, just look n Youtube alone all the racist comments are left by white guys from the UK chk it out, they are all openly racist, skinheads and Natzis listen that's probably why you havent heard black people there talking about racism because its so open there, so there's no need to talk about it, its known you should chk that out first before you think theres no racism in the UK. please.

  • (1 of 1) I don't claim that there is NO racism in the UK. I simply claim that the media is less tollerant of it (see Jim Davidson) - to the point where people crack jokes about Jim Davidson (For being racist). Yes of course there are racist people from the UK on youtube, yes the majority of theses probably are skinhead nazi facists, it's called the BNP. But please realise they are a vocal minority. I wouldn't say "no need to talk about it", it's more "fear of addressing it" for fear of reprisal.

  • Comment 3/3

But frankly you seem to be quite well off, maybe you should take a look at the world around you and consider your position with respect to the rest of the world. Perhaps you should look at weather or not you took full advantage of the schooling that was given to you, or weather you were one of the kids who messed around and made life difficult for others including the teacher.

  • Comment 2/3

I agree that racism in America is a problem. I turn on my TV, in comes some comedy from America, and if the comedian is white, he cracks a joke about black people.

But then I watch a black comedian and he cracks a joke about white people.

You seem to be interviewing people who are on the down and out, and seem to be trying to find a reason as to why they may be in this situation, and you chose to blame it on their ancestors being enslaved.

  • Ok I'm here, and totally psyched to hear the super duper reason that you called me up here from your comment on my video.

    Comment 1 of 3

    Suggestion for video title

The impact on dwelling on slavery on African American youth.

You personally were never enslaved. If you had been put on a crammed ship and been forced to work for hours a day, getting council would certainly be an idea.

  • I believe in equality and yes it does suck when you aren't considered equal and being a gay male in the United States I understand that but this happened years ago by a completely different generation. It is time to step away from that, yes there are people out there who are still bigots and racist but there are also those who aren't. African Americans wanted to be viewed as individuals and equal well consider that just because two people are white doesn't mean they think the same.

  • Every ethnicity has been enslaved at some point in history. This is as ridiculous as me getting angry at the Barbary States for selling my ancestors as slaves in North Africa. Can we move on yet?

  • As Oprah says, there's a great sense of pride and strength in knowing what her people endured and conquered. You live and dream because of and for your ancestors. Embrace their memory and thank them for what they endured and then thank them by succeeding beyond their wildest dreams.

  • In under a minute, you blame Whitey for slavery. Blacks where kidnapped and sold by Blacks. The slave trade was well developed in Africa well before Europeans began sailing around the world. What's more, it was the evil blue-eyed devils that where the first race to outlaw slavery, which still exist on the Dark Continent.

  • ok thats like buying a stolen car, i mean people naturally knows whats wrong or right. so if someone sold you a stolen car and you knew it was stolen you would still take it drive it around and when the owner wants the car back you would blame them for not protecting their car better right. Listen i blame had a part in this but yea mostly i blame the people who kept it going even thought they knew it was wrong so yes i blame whites.

  • So, you would blame me for driving the stolen car, rather than the person who stole it?

You blame the people who kept it going, but what about the people who KEEP it going, to this day?

  • Slavery still exists, even on the light continent. It's a huge underground industry and the nation that imports the most slaves, is the US. Check it out.

  • I have checked it out. You haven't. The worlds largest slave industry is in China, while the largest per capita is (I think) in Israel.

  • It is a slippery statistic. My main point was it should be investigated. Many believe it no longer exists. I'm glad you have investigated and thank you for the reply.

  • Everyone has hard times its called life, I wish life was a cake walk...

  • We want people to realize that every African American child has to find out for the first time that there people were slaves, and there are many psychological factors involved with this. We want people to know that the memomry ofs lavery is still painful. We don't want a handout. We just want people to undestand where we are coming from, and recognize us as a valuable part of American society.

  • But we want people to realize American Slavery impacts African Americans today. Yes, it is difficult to trace our ancestry back to Africa, because families were split up and sold, names were changed, they were banned from speaking their language, playing music, or anything African.

  • Musical art forms considered completely American: Jazz, Blues, Spirituals and HipHop, have their roots in Africa. The world's most popular "American" English word is "Okay" which came from a West African word "wah-KAY." American religion also is impacted by African beliefs. African culture was banned, but could not be extiguished.

  • Yet we'll never know for certain, seeing as how your people (WEst Africans) had no written history until the Portuguese arrived in the 15th century.

The same roots in Africa existed in Europe, but the Europeans evolved, developing music that contained rhythm and harmony, rather than just the former.

    Afro-centrism is laughable.

  • But being an anglophile and euro-centric makes YOU serious and supreme? I'm not from West Africa. I'm as white as you. But I'm not a supremist. Why don't you just be a better whatever you want to be instead of going from site to site telling people how they don't measure up to your arbitrary equation of worthiness?

  • Europeans and their ancestors are more advanced. You can deny facts all day, but they won't disappear because you do so.

  • Who cares if it isn't written down. Many cultures pass things down orally. And there are many african instruments that create harmony, melody, and rhythm. Many west Africans have been known to create intricate harmonies with their voices. And how would you feel if I laughed at Euro-centrism?

  • they didn't have any written history cuz all the europeans stole it, and destroyed it, first rule to keep a race down is to destroy where they came from and destroy their history. asshole!!! Laugh at that...

  • I'm sick of bitter white people watching videos about black people, and leaving rude comments. Most of us don't even want reparations.

  • I'm not sure how anyone is bitter. Just get over it, its in the past. What exactly do you want?

  • now listen why dont you tell the jews the same thing about he holocaust to leave it alone its in the past. the suffering is still very well alive, just knowing that it happened is enough.

  • @moolah55729 I am too!!! THAT MAKES TWO OF US! They should know this is for US as a people! We don't even care about their stupid videos on War and dumb shit that they like to praise!

  • Most people black call themselves African American but half do not even know how many generations ago their people where in Africa. My grandfathers were from Ireland and Germany, but I cannot legally be called an Irish American or a German American. I have no option to bubble in on my application. I only have Caucasian. I am not a Caucasian. My family has never been to the Caucus mountains. Why am I allowed to be labeled a color, white, but you refuse to be labeled as so?

  • Right on

  • You do realize that while you so concerned with abolishing slavery and racism here in America, there is actual, "real" slavery happening right no. That's right all over the world including Africa. SO if you love your people so much then for God's sake save them. I am apart of many organizations to stop human trafficking and human enslavement.

  • Join me and help out the people of Africa from a real and present danger. Stop playing pin the tail on the honkey.

Black people in America get so offended by so called racist symbols such as the Confederate flag that they get them banned from stores like Wal-Mart, which by the way sells clothes made by actual slaves, TODAY. But we don't care about that because that doesn't serve the black American Agenda.

  • Black Americans demand apologies and reparations for slavery when they haven't even thought to ask the West Africans for an apology for their part, which without their help the slave trade would not have flourished.

And a little side point, black men and women didn't abolish slavery, white men and women did. Can we get a big fat sloppy wet kiss for that? No. What about the nearly 600,000 white men who died during the Civil War, which had slavery at the forefront. Can they get a thank you?

  • For the record, we are well aware of the many forms of slavery that exist around the world. Many people, of all colors, are fighting to end this as well.

  • who the hell are you talking about. no black people i kno want apoligies and reparations.

  • I highly suggest you meet more black people. Black people have opinions just as diverse as any other race. And what's wrong with a simple apology? No one is saying it was your fault. Saying, "you know, slavery sucked, and I'm so sorry your people," means you care. Sometimes we just want to be heard, and to have people understand that the idea of our ancestors being enslaved still hurts. Each generation has to learn the story of what our ancestors went through. I cried when I first heard it.

  • Slavery, lynchings, racism, economic discrimination, systemic educational deprivation... These are all horrible. I am ashamed, outraged and sorry that these crimes happened and still happen.

I did not cry when I first heard about slavery because I got the Disney version. I think even most Blacks get the softer version. The harsher and real version has made me cry many times. And I'm white. I can only imagine how it feels from the Black perspective.

    I really am sorry.

  • I think we will make greater progress as a nation when we learn to understand and have empathy for each other. We should all learn to empathise with the struggles of other people. People should know that an apolpgy can mean sorry it happend, not "sorry I did it." It sucked what the jews and native americans have had to go through as well.

  • No. That would not serve the black man's agenda either. While the west, America, was working to end slavery, Asians, Arabs, and yes even Africans were working hard to keep the profitable business going. Kill Whitey!

What about black America's crime rate. Doesn't this in some ways make white people a slave? We can't go to certain sides of town or cities or even go out late at night without fear of being robbed, shot, and stabbed. Where is our apology for the crime rate?
