  • Prost and Piquet disliked this..

  • What a sound. What a driver

  • Definition of a champion= Ayrton Senna. RIP

  • “That is the amazing thing for me. Ayrton watched all of that, saw it all first-hand, holding my crash helmet and possibly watching me die from a crash. He watched all the needles and syringes and the tracheotomy. Then he went back to his garage, put his helmet back on, visor down, and with just 10 minutes left, did the fastest lap of Jerez ever of that track.”

    DONELLY

  • 01:41s..... LIKE A BOSS

  • 0:32, just says everything.

  • Senna is so special

  • Senna was THE BOMB !!!

  • i will never get tired of the engine sound. never.

  • If I could I would like this video so many times :v

  • FUCK :| This shows why Senna is the absolute best of al time. RIP <3

  • God's driving.

  • When I think that things in my life are too hard and are going too fast I watch this video and my boring life looks so easy and slow.

  • no can drive like this, full opposite lock on final corner and one had on wheel at times

  • Take that, Prost with your semi-automatic gearboxed Ferrari!

  • That is taking the car by the scruff of the neck and kicking it's ass. I've seen Vettel hit laps that were as kinetic and laserlike, but he never has to deal with manual stick shifts and gets a help from electronics. Just incredible. RIP Senna.

  • 近代F1に比べ、車を操ってる感じが凄い。最終のフルカウンターなんて今無いもんね...。

  • This is F1.........What we see today is only the race of engineers. No more no less.

Bring us back these years please.

  • Prost maybe the biggest cunt who ever raced in F1!?!

    I think yes!

  • Fuck me

  • low aerodynamic grip, manual gearbox, 1,200bhp, and senna at the wheel = F***ING HUGE BALLS!! :O

P.S Bernie if ur reading this, please listen to the spectators and bring the turbo v12s back, maybe that way u will get more views.

  • @F1guy1 Turbo is coming back isn't it ? in 2013 i heard somewhere

  • @oneinamillion232 yes but with v4

  • @F1guy1 V10s sounded a lot better though. A mix of the V12 turbo power and the awesome sound of the V10s would be pretty legendary

  • 2 Prost fans watched this.

  • Demon behind the wheel ! you gotta love Senna . ! Can't wait to see the film in June.

  • @oneinamillion232 If you buy the blu-ray or dvd you can watch it now!

  • @znmo0nlight Yea, but it will be in Italian. Got to be seen on the big screen.

  • @oneinamillion232 Only some parts are non english but most of the film is in english

  • Wow that thing just sounds scary on the downshifts.

  • I dont even watch F1 anymore - watch a few races a year just "for old times sake" - but not much - why would you - when you used to watch this every week? - spellbinding, pulverizing Senna magnificence!

  • He's even too fast for a proper tv-signal! :D

    AMAZING!

  • aryton seemed to rely on his downshifts to assist is braking moreso than Alain Probst (?) did. Alain used his but, in my opinion, not as much as Senna did. But then again, I am sure aerodynamics play a large part in the reasons as well.

  • @rmachayes actually, that's less about aerodynamics and more about specific engine characteristics.

  • Pride to be brazilian

  • 1:12 looks mad! Thats why this corner is nowadays a Chicane Called "Ayrton Senna Chicane", I watch this vid 3x every week, its just insane

  • ES UN ANIMAL!!

  • Insane

  • Is this video flipped? as in a mirror? He passed those two guys on the LEFT side of them when they showed this clip on Top Gear for Senna's tribute...I just notcied that.

  • @DeAdiSSu3 If it was flipped the "Honda" on the steering wheel would be backwards and so would the "Nacional" on his helmet. Can't flip a video but keep the text the right way.

I have seen one video of part 1 of the Top Gear thing that was flipped however.

  • Genius....

  • So crazy scary how fast he came up on those other two cars. An amazing driver.

  • Just listen from 35 to 40 seconds in, through the 2 corners and how ridiculously fast he is on the throttle, on and off constantly, pushing to get a faster exit. no one else could drive that lap like that, he is the best driver of all time, without doubt !!

  • I want to be a racing driver.really badly.

  • And that little boys. . .is how its done.

  • @BlueFox284 Simply the best at his office working.

  • @lazerpod66 Damn right! :-D

  • Awesome!...

  • makes today's onboards look like playstation

  • @xpandia

Yes, today's drivers get manual sequential gearboxes and piddly V8's.

But since you don't know, I'll tell you:

Television coverage began to integrate onboard cameras with magnetic and liquid image stabilization in late 1995/early 1996. It looks smooth these days, but it isn't. Even the newer tracks have a their fair share of uneven surfacing and off-camber corner entries and exits. You just don't see it because of the fancy onboard cameras used to make things more "viewer friendly".

  • @PulletSurprise

.....thnx for telling me but who gives a shit about image stabilization?,,,,the guy is keeping a screaming 3.5l V12 on track single handed changing gears faster than a seq gearbox....look how smooth it looks the same lap from Prost's onboard...it's not image stabilization its not viewing angle, it's just the way he is fighting,

  • @PulletSurprise Bullshit!

  • @DocBrewster

Find some helmet cam onboard shots from high level open wheel racing. You'll see.

  • all you need to see is him come off the last corner, punch the gas, oversteer then correct, and not lose accelleration all in about a tenth of a second... fucking spectacular!

  • Comment removed

  • You need counseling man.

  • Senna never had the luxury of a supporting team mate like Michael- that really explains to me why Senna was the best, racing against the best

  • Comment removed

  • @billyposter

sure was senna supportet all the years from berger... thats why senny gift his victory in suzuka 91 to berger...

like schumacher was supportet from barichello.

senna was much better like berger, and schumacher was much better than barichello...

    and thats it!!

  • Comment removed

  • Right, add Gilles Villeneuve and everything is simply perfect.

  • Comment removed

  • I stopped watching F1 the day he died. But i do miss the sounds of those screaming engines. Oh, and for those who may think that today's drivers are better... think again... Ayrton was driving a manual shift, not XBOX-like buttons like today's F1 cars. ;)

    Long Live Senna

  • This video simply proves to both you and I why Senna is the all time best, R.I.P..

  • Turn 15 (second to last) is just plain scary! Flat out with no run off at all. The last race in '97 had a chicane in place. Not too many tracks have the fast corners like Jerez does. Too bad,

  • Extraordinary.......

  • Senna had very distinctive throttle control, you can hear him aggressively opening the throttle during the downshift (heel-toe), and then jabbing at it very early through the corner. This lap is just awesome.

  • Watch this same qualify of Berger (same car).

    watch?v=3VvqI2MWirY

and play 2 videos in the same part of circuit.

  • What a car..

    And what a driver..

  • THIS IS FORMULA 1

  • Senna went with the era :) Which is fitting, as only the best era would have done him justice.

I hope F1 can return some glory back to the sport, but some champions of the past, and some top figures in F1 have ruined F1... For now.

  • i think if i was driving that car i could of gone a bit quicker

  • Find the video of Berger in the second car doing his quali at Herez and you can see the difference between these 2 drivers. Senna is faster because he is smoother. He makes it look effortless.

  • whenever i watch senna onboard it always looks like he's a bit out of control .. yet he still hits every apex and exit perfectly ... amazing

  • i agree with you, it's like he is exactly on the limit, between the accident and the perfection but controling it.

  • Senna is the best!!!

  • oh i miss this days... honda at their best and the best pilot in the world!

  • it loocks like the car gona blow lol

  • Senna seems to be not-human. Maybe the best pure driver in this sport.

1 question, what type of engine used this McLaren? a V10?

  • mclarean?= thats an HONDA

  • I know that, but what type... a V10? V8?

  • Honda V10.

  • 1989 and 1990, v10, 1992, v12

  • Isso que é pilotar.. Trocando marcha na mão toda hora, ele ainda passou dois carros por fora e ainda fez a pole. O cara pilotava demais.

  • listen to his engine screaming awesome:-)

  • wanna see this kind of driving on todays F1..

  • Which corner Donnely crash?

  • Donnely crashed at the corner at 1:09-1:10 in the movie

  • You sure, MP? I thought it was the fast right early in the lap, before Senna catches up with those 2 slow cars here on the video.

  • yes, the crash happened in that corner, without gravel or tyre walls to soften the accident, this is why afterwards there was a chicane in use there for car racing, not motor bikes though.

  • unreal lap

  • mclaren started to use semiautomatic gearboxes in 1992. but you are right i also would like to see his feet

  • Comment removed

  • I watched this lap live.

Prost had just done a quick lap in quali, I think pole, Senna responded with this lap and got pole back.

At 0:35 in the vid there are two cars going extremely slowly, actually the 2nd car was on the racing line and tacked in behind the other at the last moment.

Watching Senna fly past without lifting and aborting the lap was distressing to put it this way.

He was really on it, a true legend.

  • ahi senna tenia el record de mejor pole con 1:18.387, pero alonso acaba de marcar 1:18.343 con un v8

  • espanhol de merda mesmo com um motor v8 um monolugar de 2009 é mt mais rápido do k um de 1990

  • he was so fucking quick, lol... i can imagine the car just spinning out because he drove so fast but with senna in the cockpit, it simply never happened...

the greatest the world has ever senn...

  • The absolute best ever.

  • Schumacher may be the most sucessful F1 driver ever.Prost may have been the biggest gentleman to ever grace F1 and the all round complete driver (IMHO) however in the end only one person could do a lap like that. Senna will forever,in my view, remain as the most commited and "pleasurable" driver to watch..

The maestro may be gone, but at least we can marvel at his work..

    Rest in Peace

  • @NotSoFastPerson biggest gentleman lol why?

  • @NotSoFastPerson Prost wasn't a gentleman, a Gentleman doesn't go on TV every opportunity he gets and complain, and complain, and complain. The biggest gentleman was possibly Francois Cevert.

  • @bob333336 Fangio. Undisputed as far as I am concerned.

  • @bob333336 easily the biggest , good call.

  • @mushrume He was about as tall as Webber is, Webber is 6 foot, and he looks like an avatar next to the other drivers, he's average, it's just that the drivers tend to be shorter (5foot 9-10 ish).

  • I can remember the races at Jerez, but I must say its only now that I can see what a seriously fast track this was, some blinding corners, bit hairaising watching it!!

    Brilliant though.

  • No wonder Martin Donnely nearly got killed there.

  • Exactly! that is so bloody quick, it almost takes my breath away, seriously impressive footage.

  • Right, what you see here is the master at work, clear for you and everybody to see why Senna was Senna, the very best of all time.

  • I totally agree!

  • The RA 109 of "89 and the RA 110 was very great specs of the Honda V10 3.5L .

    My favorites.

When i hear those versions, i have the feeling that's those engines are alive like a monster .

The better Honda engines ever heard (for me)

The 3.0L at 20 000 rpm is nice but this is more powerful .

    Not damned tiny 2.4 L V8, bullshit.

  • that prost fella is another weasel ,he told renault not to let senna join the williams team for 93 because he knew he would be murdered by ayrton again as in 88 n 89 . but in prosts contract renault told alain ok but you have a 2year contract with us and senna will be joining you for the 94 season ,when prost heard this he retired and didnt fill out his 2yr contract with williams .what a rat and a coward , sounds like something schumacher would have done too if im honest

  • Prost was always afraid by Ayrton, Ayrton was simply better .

Prost was always a bad gamer with AYRTON, 89, 93...

  • Stunning. Simply awesome.

There will never be another Ayrton Senna.

  • Bear in mind, that Ayrton had just seen Martin Donnelly's awful crash and wondered whether he should think about retiring sooner rather than later.

Then he blocked it out of his mind, and gave us this lap.

    R.I.P. Legend.

  • your absolutely right

best point to mention ,ayrton had just seen another driver being lifted from the ground onto a stretcher ,alomost dead was poor martin donnelly .and then he goes out and drives like this. it boggles the mind .thats what made him the best ever . r.i.p. ayrton we all miss you ,

  • RIP, Master!

Simply the Best of the Best ever!

there´s no Schumi, Prost, Hamilton or whatever who can be said as better than him...

  • Good comment, and accurate, Senna is the alltime master, period.

  • Ayrton's flying lap is so intense that everytime I watch at it I go with my head taking each curve as if I was there, lol. It's like entering into another dimension, like being in a tunnel in which you don't know if the light at the end is the sunshine or a train that goes directly to you. What is amazing is that in 65 out of 161 times, it was the sunshine, not the train. No way: seeing his job on Qualy obligates to a rest to bring my adrenaline back! Obrigado Ayrton, I miss you so much buddy...

  • Can you just imagine Lucianno buddy how quickly Senna can shift? Just listen at this video, he was simply the best, and this vid proves it.

  • HeHe, nope1 Impossible to imagine such a brilliant downshifting!!!. His downshifting is so close to perfection that not even an automatic gearbox would do it better!!!. Anyway if you forget about listen the video but just watch at it, it would be the same: the way Ayrton control the sliding of the car is really unbelievable... no other driver could do it that way, not even other "sliding" kings as Mansell or Rosberg. Simply impossible to believe (if not for the video!!!). GREAT AYRTON!!!

  • Amazingly Jeepy, the other "lap of the day" there in Jerez 90 was Prost lap, with just a totally different style as always: a smooth and clean line, "easy" I'd say. I really love to see those guys that day in Jerez, with their 180º opposite way of driving and still being almost as fast (I guess Ayrton got the pole by about 2/10 or something similar). It's a pity nowadays cars don't allow us see how different driving styles can be: bot current drivers seem to be almost all the same, lol......

  • Accurate crap comment I would say. To put Hamilton in the same sentence among Prost and Schumacher hurts the eyes of any F1 lover.

  • I totally agree.

I just said that, because some other people had said something about hamilton be the new Senna...

Senna BOB! BEST OF THE BEST! EVER!

  • I agree: putting Hamilton in the Senna-Prost level is premature yet. Up to now I'd put him on a Schuey's level, not because of lack of talent but to due to the following: for being the Senna He should have his counterpart (Prost). For being the new Prost He should have his counterpart (Senna). I want to be honest: even with Hamilton being a good talent, a counterpart of Alain or Ayrton's calibre didn't appeared yet... And believe me, that's a big difference... very big in fact...

  • again .. SENNA>schumacher

  • Great stuff!

  • Did you see how quickly and smoothly he reacted to the two slow pokes 2 wide!

  • HONDA 3.5 RULES .

    JUST UNBEATABLE

  • Just another day in the office for Ayrton :-)

  • You talk about the young people who never saw Senna, I started watching F1 in 2005! I never even really got to see Schumacher! My hopes are riding with Lewis Hamilton.

  • Magic in action, how he overtakes the car's ! Yes Newyankee a typic Senna back slip out at 1.20 ! And a great spec of the honda, lot of power and what a sound motor, a monster! the HONDA golden age !

  • Simply the best, along with Gilles Villeneuve, we will not see another like him, once in a lifetime.

  • unfortunetly no, you are right .

    Rest in peace master.

  • What the young viewers don't seem to understand here is that Senna is manually doing everything in the cockpit, and at lightning speed, all a blur and very precise, no mistakes, the all time master at work.

  • I'd say....those who started watching F1 after the year 2000.

There's a reason Senna is an absolute F1 legend!

  • Even Schumacher when he manually shifted was not even close to Senna, I feel sorry for the young people who never saw Senna in action, a pitty.

  • i agrre to you

  • how he takes the corners!perfecto, fantastico!

    master.

  • This was the 50th pole of his career in just over 100 races, most of which were entered in inferior equipment.

  • One good way anyone can see how Senna was superior is to compare another video, search Berger onboard jerez90. In the same session, same car/track, Berger being no slouch, there's a big difference between them. This video clearly demonstrates that Senna was a supernatural driver, on a seperate level, gifted to his toenails. He is amongst few supernaturals like Clark, Gilles Villeneuve, Moss.

  • 1.20 watch the back slip out!

  • Totally amazing lap this one, the makes the car go faster than it should and how he passed those back markers, it was like they wern't even there. Also the manual gear changing, makes the ingredients to a freak of nature.

  • Unreal, you can see that Senna was almost not of this earth, the absolute master of them all at work. And, after seeing this video, people dare tell me that Schumacher is the best.........My ass.

  • Damn Ayron, this is bonkers. Leave some skill for the rest of us.

  • Pause at 0:33 and think of what you would do... then restart the video and watch: pure adrenaline work by the great Arton Senna.

  • OMG, THE BEST FORMULA 1 DRIVER OF ALL TIME, RIGHT THERE!!!

Ayrton Senna showing what he was made of, absolutely fantastic lap, at the limit!

Formula 1 should go back to the stick shift, to make the drivers work harder or simply just for the beauty of it.

    Ayrton Senna Forever!!!

  • The master himself... oh god.... what an astonishing drive.... absolutely breathtaking

  • Thats the lap record for the old layout of the circuit. He's absolutely on fire.

  • cool sound!
