I have owned one of these for almost two years now. It is fully decked out with every maximum option. I've upgraded the RAM to 8gig and the drives to dual 500gb. Video is 8800 GTX w/ hacked drivers. This is one hell of a slick computer. Plays every game I throw at it in full resolution with all visual options maxed. It *IS* a portable desktop, not a "laptop". The battery life is naturally abysmal. It is better to think of the battery as a good built-in UPS rather than a crappy battery.

@not4um8, Since when does size dictate it isn't for Pro work?!? I use 2 of these for Professional work because of their size and the screens. Fantastic machines so of course HP no longer makes them, go figure.

@sheek1982, I have had one HDX Dragon for 3 years and the second one for 2 years. The battery lasts about 1.8 hours to 2 hours on average (with things turned off) even this far down the road and neither battery has had to be replaced yet.

I have a feeling that this machine really isn't a laptop but more of a desktop replacement. It's big because it has alot of power, you can play your games on this thing. It's not really ment to be off the charge, at least i would assume. Think of it as a portable desktop.

Iono if there's a Mac OS X version, but you could install Windows on your Mac and play that. And since you can legally install Windows on a Mac, a Mac is the only computer you'll ever need. You can't legally install Mac OS X on a PC though.

whats really funny, is that im watching this video on my brand new EEE 900 pc with a 20GB solid state drive and intel celeron mobile processor, I just loaded Xubuntu linux on it, the xandrous linux distro it came with was garbage. That laptop is huge, about 3 times the size of my EEE

yep the eee 900 with linux, its only 12gb on the xp version but 20gb on the linux version

ya, but if you use the linux version I suggest getting rid of the linux distro it comes with and installing Ubuntu or something that gives your more control over the system.

I've been searching so much for info on this HP HDX "Dragon" - and out of all I've seen so far, yours has been THE MOST REVEALING OF ALL. It was like "the next best thing to being there." Now I'm on the edge of my seat preparing to see what happens in Part 2 (8~P) The ONLY downside was that I couldn't make out much of the audio due to audio recording quality (shatter-y, tinny). Wish you could re-upload but with better audio. ALL ELSE WAS GREAT! Hope to hear of your specs, too. Thanx loads!
