i bought my 04 sti and it had an RS trunk lid with no wing.

i like it without the wing.

its not as flashy and it doesnt grab cops attention.

the wings are functional though

they keep the rear end planted at high speeds when you lift the throttle and hit the brakes.

honestly if you get a non-winged sti and u put one on you're either desperate for people to notice your car or you REALLY love the spoiler look.... i used to like it but now i would most likely take the spoiler off....and if it was a small wing i woulnt even think about it...its just soo...ew

i think people usually take off the wing for one of three reasons, they think it looks better without it, they cant see in their rear-view mirror, or they are changing it out for another wing.

I 04-05 (blob eye) look the best without spoilers. The sti spoiler should never be put on a bugeye an for the hawk eyes (06-07) once you lower the car to certain point, the spoiler removed achieves the best look, espeically low and on a wide wheel.

it all depends on who you ask... whatever you call it, launch control in this case, it allows the turbo to make basically (if not) full boost right when you launch... not necessarily good for turbo RWD/FWD cars, but ideal to get a 4WD/AWD car off the line without it bogging down... you come out of the starting line a helluva lot quicker than you would normally without this... but it does kill your clutch a lot quicker :(
