I think they had a few issues in their relationship though, like Dan being awfully judgmental, and unable to accept the fact, that Serena is more "privileged" because of her social status. Serenas' problem was, that she was unable to tell the truth about her actions, afraid of Dans' judgment.
This season we are seeing him coming down his high horse, and her being more her real self around him, so reunion might be possible at some point.
