The guitarist is actually Martin Van Wijk, son of Dutch immigrants. In the late 1960s he returned to The Netherlands and played in various groups. In 1973 he replaced main songwriter Robbie Van Leeuwen in Shocking Blue (of 'Venus'-fame). Other bands he played with were Telephone and Lemming.
The three best versions of this song belong to Benny Spellman (New Orleans Creole), The Merseybeats (British Invasion Stereo), and The Throb (Australian Punk).
Make no mistake .. this song was as good as anything which was around on the charts at the time. Great band, a pity that they didn't hang around in the spotlight for longer ...
"The Throb",esses eu não conhecia, mas estou achando muito bacana, apesar de ser uma versão bem em cima da dos "Stones".É válido, tinha a ver com o período.
This is really aussie-rock at it´s best. What amazing band that seems to have existed during the 60s in Australia. I know The Missing Links and The Throb - very very good. I have also found another band, not from Australia, but incredibly good. THE ZETTLERS! Check up "Skinnie Minnie" and "Beautiful Delilah". The recordings were made 1965. Unbelievable!

My bro in law Russel Paterson also played for this band. A northern beaches boy, Avalon. He tells me they played this at the opening of the Avalon shopping centre- barefoot boulevarde, aka bullshit boulevarde...
I remember these guys distinctly. My old man hated them we would piss ourselves when we where watchingthe Go show or something on saturday arvo after playing footy and he would watch them and tell us wat a bunch of "poofs" they were.Love u-tube,memories at your fingertips.
I can remember playing this on a 45 rpm record at the end of grade 4 school at Ascot Vale West Primary school # 425 anybody else? Great stuff just love all of this, thank u u tuber's
The old 'better than the stones' arguement is a predictable one, and to some degree sells the Throb version short. The Stones version by their own admission is weak. It wasn't even released in the UK at the time, only in territories where the Stones had less control over their output such as the US and Oz.
That said, the Throb version in my opinion is far from the best. That honour goes to Tony Jackson & The Vibrations with their 'Kinks-a-like' take on this track.
Geelong band called Frowning Clouds are doing this sort of stuff again - great sound from these young blokes. Close your eyes and think of ...early Rolling Stones.

This is a truly great song performed by a great Aussie band from the 60s. I remember when this was played on the radio - I was 11 years old and loved it!!

Brilliant band. Annihilates the Stones version. Oh to be back there again!!!

This song has the faintest twinge of a full-on Rolling Stones type character to it. Aussie Music such as this never came better.

anyone who knows this song with the lyrics in the chorus "but you don't love me at all"? this song is from the 50's or 60's.

The Throb and The Missing Links were the two bands that Australia didn't appreciate at the time. They should have been huge.

These guys were great and with the Loved Ones, Masters Apprentices, Ray Brown, MPD and Johnny O'Keefe they made Aussie music the best it ever was.

@munropete I took your advice, The Frowning Clouds are excellent, they remind me of The Pretty Things with a dash of early Stones.

If management hadn't been so tied up with the Easybeats maybe the Throb would have received the attention they deserved!

Thanks, as always your videos best sound & slideshow! The Who added this hit to their setlist in 1968, also very good.

I have always rated the Throb's take on this excellent track, I know it was an album track for the Stones but I think the Throb had the edge.
