You should check out The Structure of Evolutionary Theory by Stephen J Gould. It's pretty hefty (~1500 pages) but it is a very good read, a bit slow but very insightful. And there is an interesting chapter on Punctuated Equilibrium which I absolutely love.

I also like The Ancestor's Tale by Richard Dawkins, and The Selfish Gene.

Wow must say I love your taste in books but you make me feel bad about the sci fi series I just finished but glad about the chinese philosophy I'm halfway through...I need to read more non fiction LOL
