I have to be honest Jewel Staite was never believable as an important physician, and was a pale and unimpressive replacement for Beckett. He had so much more personality. Give me a break Amanda Tapping's performance as the leader of Atlantis was weak at best. Her strongest scenes were with O'Neil on SG. She was never as compelling or interesting as a character as Weir. Besides Sheppard and Weir had chemistry. The show needed the angst their relationship brought to the screen.
There was magic and major chemistry between Sheppard and Weir. Just watch the hundreds of romantic videos that are a tribute to their love. The eye sex alone says more than words ever could. They are one of the HOTTEST TV couples. True passion is in all their shared glances, as well as concern, respect, and love.

Nah, John didn't give up on Teyla. It just is of a very different chemistry. =P Like mates or just buddies. He didn't really flirt with her as much as he did with Weir. But then again, I'm talking from an avid Sparky fan's point of view.
Personally, the beard kind of bothered me. But that's just me.
