When was this one recorded? I thought it was sixties but i know that style of the clothes wasn't 1960. The music was though. So many pop artists that made it big used a lot of the styles from the sixties.
@whitpr I totally agree with u....Fantasia should remake this song. She definitely has the vocal ability to pull it off without losing the emotion that comes with the song.
Okay so will u marry me then? Its plenty of room on the floor instead sleeping next door 'LOL'!! U stuck in your ways I am to so now we have a problem?..or better yet its a swell compromise.
I remember this song being released when I was 12 or 13 years old. I have always said that it would be the most perfect wedding song if I ever get married.
Are u asking me to purpose to u cause this song is our common denominator 'LOL'. Yeah this track will be played at my ceremony or hopefully she will sing it in person there.
I wasn't asking you to propose, but now that I re-read my comment it certainly sounds lke I was kind of hinting, doesn't it? Have no fear...I'm pretty deeply committed to my single state ;-)
Nah, I play plenty...just that after a while you get set in your ways. I keep telling folks that my husband will have to be willing to live in a house next door to mine for us to be able to make it work!
No,no, no...I'm not currently married. I'm saying that if I WAS he would probably have to live next door for us to make a successful go of it because I'm set in my ways (and not a very good communicator, apparently).
Okay so will u marry me then? Its plenty of room on floor instead of sleeping next door 'LOL'!! U stuck in your ways I am to so now we have a problem?...or better yet a swell compromise.
I'm going to take pity on you and save you from yourself. No, I won't marry you, but I appreciate the offer ;-). My first marriage proposal of 2008...this year is looking up already!
Now,see...why you gotta go and be like that? Also, I might be a monkey ass, but I'm definitely NOT bald headed! I don't know if your rant is serious or not, but either way I'm laughing my monkey ass off. Keep talking like you're doing and I'll do like the rest of the sisters and go and find me a white man!
That makes the both of us uh huh. I'll find me a white man to or u can find me one while your at it 'LOL!!!sikeeeeeeeeee just kidding. I saw ya pic, yeah u not bald headed but u have no edges and split inns.
So hows about we leave things like this: I'll go out and find a white man for both of us...one who'll be willing to invest in a deep conditioner for me and some damn manners for you! Whatchu think about that?
Yeah she did smoke alot of cigarettes. Her sensibilities are definately still intact. You never really lose that. But her instrument...not like before.
this was from her first "post-Capitol Records" recording, when the brilliant Clive Davis picked her up, dusted her off, and reinvigorated her career, just as he did with Dionne Warwick. Brilliant performance.
In response to the last comment, i do SOMETIMES like her phrasing, but she does milk it, and i get irritated, i just want to move her back to the beat. good performance, i feel sorry for those who feel they have to defend her, she so doesnt sing like that any more, i think age takes some singers and not others. Aretha, Chacka, whitney and Diana have all lost it. Patti, Gladys and Celine sound like they did on their first albums. brilliant era for her though. brilliant song.
Have you heard Patti lately? She absolutley does not sound like she did even 2 years ago. Not good at all in concert anymore. None of these ladied have lost it, they have only aged. Sorry
2. Why would you put Celine Dion in the same category as the other singers you listed? Celine's career started here in the US around 1990. I have heard that she started in Canada around 1982. Aretha's career started around 1957. That means Celine has been doing this for about 25 years and Aretha 50 years, that is twice as long as Celine! And this performance was about 25 years ago. Sounds like Aretha's voice held up nicely for a very long time!
3. Why would you just want to judge someone's career on just their last performance? If you read the history books, they do not just talk about the last thing a person did! They reference their accomplishments over a lifetime! I, and I assume others, see Aretha for more than just her last performance or her last album or all that fat she is currently wrapped in, we see a strong legacy!
I agree, quite a few singers still got it and some don't. Aretha's best dayz are pretty much long gone. Patti,Gladys on a bad would give aretha and them one hell of a challenge for their money.
oh she dont sound nothing like she used to sound. I saw her live back in the day and she was really on top of her game, one of the best, but age, smoking, weight has changed her voice so much.
no she doesn't still have that sound. I can barely listen to her live performances now. SO sad, cos she's an AMAZING artist and I love her to death. But she's definitely not got the same sound she used to have.
I just went to see Aretha live. I have to tell you - it was the single most amazing event of my life! Her voice is so strong. I will admit, as a singer, that sometimes your voice can be off. If her voice is off the day of a performance people tend to think that she's losing it. Trust - the lady still got chops! By the way - new CD coming out this fall!

Azzergaz, Four things! 1. It is a natural tendency for people to defend the things they love! Be it their wife, mom, car or favorite singer!
