@alexisd3 yes if the chords major try any major mode if its minor try minor modes , harmonic as well or hirojoshi an alsp indian is great to there is no boundry as long as u like what you hear , it must be good . its all in the ear.
@alexisd3 yes. however it also depends on the chord progressions and if the scale fits that progression. interesting fact though(and you can see this in marty's other videos) you can play notes that are out of the scale if you don't "hold" or "sit" on them for too long. if you want to sound interesting for just a bit you can play notes that maybe aren't part of the scale but you add one or two weird notes to catch the listener off guard. Friedman does it in a lot of songs.
@codebabe I see, usually I follow a E minor chord progression, and mess the leads up a little bit to sound different every time I play, sometimes I follow a bluesy pattern and depending on the chords being played it sounds good, other times I play on a harmonic scale and sounds pretty cool, thanks man :P

I'm really into early Aerosmith right now so I lvoe Joe Perry. I also love Thin Lizzy so of course I love Gary Moore and Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham. i didn't get into virtuoso guitar until last year so for a 9 year player i'm not that technical but hope one day to get to that level.

I mean he's definitely a virtuoso, but his style is tastey, bluesy, not to excessive and his biggest strength is probably his rhythm playing. not reall the sign of a shredder. Eric Johnson has hard pieces but so does Marty. Tornado of Souls for instance.

And Kirk Hammet doesn't write many riffs in Metallica, James and Ulrich do. Kirk is a decent guitarist but Marty smokes him.

@PovZ123 he always sounds clean though, and his style doesn't require excessive alternate picking so it works. He's one of, if not my favorite lead player(s).
@PovZ123 Gilbert is great but he's never played in a band that I've really loved. Megadeth is my favorite metal band easily so Marty has been easier to get into.
This video is a perfect example that there's no 100% perfect unique picking technique, each one has to develope its own. They both pick so different, yet both are great!
I love seeing different guitarists' playing styles compared like this, they're both great guitarists but they have such different styles and sounds to each other, even when they jam together

@emanhacker and praise doesn't mean who he's influenced by either. when paul said he loves hendrix and moore, he's saying those are the guys who influenced him. when i say he praises marty that doesn't mean i meant marty influenced him. i praise a lot of players who dont influence me per se. Jason Becker and Joe Satriani for instance. They haven't influenced me personally, but I appreciate them. Just as Paul appreciate's Marty's style

The fact that you say Marty is only known for Megadeth shows you dont know much about his career. He's known for his various solo albums(all of which are different genres of music) and his work with the shred band Cacophony with Jason Becker, one of the best shredders of all time. Marty is very well recognized outside of Megadeth.
