You can really tell the guy driving the Rx8 is an idiot. If you listen to the engine you can tell the car is barely hitting 4k RPM and everyone that owns a rotary engine knows rotaries only perform it's best at higher revs... You can even hear him shift at about 5k RPM. 9.5K REV LIMIT HELLO? The best time to shift is about 8.7k. But, seriously 0:55:16?? I got better track times at an autocross with a much larger track and mines completely stock besides a Mazdaspeed suspension & swaybars.
I own a 2010 jetta TDI cup and I am saying right now that I can put my car through that course faster than that. I know for a fact, and still get 38mpg doing it. Once you break in a diesel, it gets better gas mileage. I can contest to that.
@Part4Skate to add... I bought my jetta at a sticker price of $25,999 on managers special at the San Juan Capistrano dealership. Also, it has the DSG transmission.

too bad everything they did with this car is from copying mercedes, from the guages, to the climate controls, to the door handels. all these garbage cheap asian automakers strive to copy and be as close to european manufactures.
How many times has this driver run this "new" course? It'd be bad to introduce the variable of experience with the course into testing times. I would have had the RX8 and TDI driven first for this reason.

The events and therefore of course also the reviewers in the show come across too scripted and not very spontaneous. More improvisation would be nice, why not let him get everything going in the TDI like in the outtakes and then make a joke about it and the new format, as you're in the process of getting this going as well. And: If the Sonata is such a good car, why don't you show and explain more details about it?

I like the concept but I'm a first time watcher and the way the Hyundai was described sounds biased and almost like a sales pitch. I thought reviews were suppose to display facts and let the audience decide?
@iempwn4ge Very few car reviews are "just the facts." If that's all you wanted you could simply read the sales brochure. Most viewers look to our experience to to give you our opinion on a car. Though this one is rather positive, take a look at some of our past videos and you'll see not all our reviews aren't all cupcakes and unicorns. We could have pulled a Jeremy Clarkson with something like this "As everyone knows, Korean cars are crap. So why is it I like this Sonata?"

I simply cant get passed the Hyundai name. They are trying to hard to become a competitor to Honda but Honda took many generations to establish themselves as a reliable brand. KIA is worse. They obviously have no original ideas and then came up with design for one of their brands which looks exactly like a Honda Civic.....minus the quality, the tuning and refinement. HA!!!

i gotta say this could be a great show, you need a different course. that one is super low budget and could use some serious maintenance. why not drive them on real open roads?
@cxvh We also do open roads, still. And, though the course is a bit dirty on the edges, the pavement is actually in pretty good condition (better condition than then airstrip we've been using for the past several years). The Speed Course will make it's debut in the next few weeks and will run over some of the newer paved sections.

@vovka444 We're driving the new turbo Sonata on Friday, so we should have the 411 on it by then. As for the car in this video, it has a 6-speed automatic with gated manual override.
6speed, 2.0 litres, 274 hp, $24,800 including destination. Hyundai says it is not a all out sports performance model though it has a little bit more firmed up suspension & parts. They say it is an alternative to the V6 which they discontinued.
@hannas1234 We say it's outstanding, and then go on to say why we believe that. Historically, there have been Hyundai's have been complete crapboxes. Even the Genesis Coupe Turbo I found underwhealming (though much improved in quality). If you read other reviews, you'll see that other writers are just as glowing as we are about the Sonata. For the simple reason that it's a damn fine car and if you're concerned about reliability, it *does* have 100k backed... which is very smart on Hyundai's part

i like the format of the show... less goose and scenery though, more visuals on the cars themselves (interior, under the hood). more on options would be good too. as far as comparisons, might be good to get everyone a time around the track in each car, reducing individual bias.
Hyundai's would be good for rentals meaning short term, most of Hyundai's styling cues are ripped from other manufacturers and if they do come up with their own it is hideous and the opinion of a"fool" would be if you signed on the line for that POS
@scootosan all car makers have ripped off designs for other car makers. There isare no such thing as original designs anymore. I bet you that other car makers will copy Hyundai's vastly superior engine soon enough. They have come a long way in such a short time. all these stupid people can't get past a name.
I would like to see you guys use a bigger faster track also, and combine the times to show overall performance. Or some rough road driving to show how quiet it is. Just more feel input from the driver would be nice. Cheers, love the show.

@craigybus1 We test on the City Course with traction control on, because that's testing the car as it will be really driven (and the limitations of the TC system, which is an important part of modern car handling). We'll be most likely disabling TC for our speed circuit.
@craigybus1 They always get shafted engine wise. Second, it is a budget car in EU terms but in US terms is 'great', sad but true for years now. And when you take less efficient fuel in US, compared to EuroSuper 100 BS, you get an underpowered slob on an old tech engine that the auto companies produce for less money for years to come. But the people are not used to better (and uninformed greatly) so you can sell them anything. Hell, US has been selling us thing for 50% more for decades :P
@TUNDE88 1,000+ laps at Laguna Seca, Chumpcar Enduro, Skip Barber training, Paul Eklund rally school instruction, one-on-one with a WRC driving instructor and, well, the list goes on. You're right, Ryan isn't qualified to drive a city simulation course. (Ps: Do you think that Top Gear UKs hosts are good drivers? lmao)

More improvisation would be nice, why not let him get everything going in the TDI like in the outtakes and then make a joke about it and the new format, as you're in the process of getting this going as well. And: If the Sonata is such a good car, why don't you show and explain more details about it?

I like the concept but I'm a first time watcher and the way the Hyundai was described sounds biased and almost like a sales pitch. I thought reviews were suppose to display facts and let the audience decide?

@iempwn4ge Very few car reviews are "just the facts." If that's all you wanted you could simply read the sales brochure. Most viewers look to our experience to to give you our opinion on a car. Though this one is rather positive, take a look at some of our past videos and you'll see not all our reviews aren't all cupcakes and unicorns. We could have pulled a Jeremy Clarkson with something like this "As everyone knows, Korean cars are crap. So why is it I like this Sonata?"

I simply cant get passed the Hyundai name. They are trying to hard to become a competitor to Honda but Honda took many generations to establish themselves as a reliable brand. KIA is worse. They obviously have no original ideas and then came up with design for one of their brands which looks exactly like a Honda Civic.....minus the quality, the tuning and refinement. HA!!!

i heard Hyundai's and Kia's have expensive and sparse maintenance , Hyundai doesn't match VW ... btw the Mazda RX8 is not on the title and doesn't match the other 2 cars , what is doing here ?

i gotta say this could be a great show, you need a different course. that one is super low budget and could use some serious maintenance. why not drive them on real open roads?

@cxvh We also do open roads, still. And, though the course is a bit dirty on the edges, the pavement is actually in pretty good condition (better condition than then airstrip we've been using for the past several years). The Speed Course will make it's debut in the next few weeks and will run over some of the newer paved sections.

@vovka444 We're driving the new turbo Sonata on Friday, so we should have the 411 on it by then. As for the car in this video, it has a 6-speed automatic with gated manual override.

6speed, 2.0 litres, 274 hp, $24,800 including destination. Hyundai says it is not a all out sports performance model though it has a little bit more firmed up suspension & parts. They say it is an alternative to the V6 which they discontinued.

@hannas1234 We say it's outstanding, and then go on to say why we believe that. Historically, there have been Hyundai's have been complete crapboxes. Even the Genesis Coupe Turbo I found underwhealming (though much improved in quality). If you read other reviews, you'll see that other writers are just as glowing as we are about the Sonata. For the simple reason that it's a damn fine car and if you're concerned about reliability, it *does* have 100k backed... which is very smart on Hyundai's part

i like the format of the show... less goose and scenery though, more visuals on the cars themselves (interior, under the hood). more on options would be good too. as far as comparisons, might be good to get everyone a time around the track in each car, reducing individual bias.

Hyundai's would be good for rentals meaning short term, most of Hyundai's styling cues are ripped from other manufacturers and if they do come up with their own it is hideous and the opinion of a"fool" would be if you signed on the line for that POS

The TDI cup is a a horrible financial decision. Unless your part of the exclusive factory TDI cup program. This course does it many favors.

Its pronounced Hi-un-dai you fools! And its a cheap pile of crap! Plus its fugly. How much did they pay you to say that??? And turn the traction control off. You do not need some electronic nanny hiding the car's woeful chassis. And the Jetta only having 140bhp? That is low for a VW 2.0 TDi power unit. They got 150 bhp out of the aged 1.9 TDi for us Europeans. You have been shafted by VW USA...Har Har..

@craigybus1 We test on the City Course with traction control on, because that's testing the car as it will be really driven (and the limitations of the TC system, which is an important part of modern car handling). We'll be most likely disabling TC for our speed circuit.

@craigybus1 They always get shafted engine wise. Second, it is a budget car in EU terms but in US terms is 'great', sad but true for years now. And when you take less efficient fuel in US, compared to EuroSuper 100 BS, you get an underpowered slob on an old tech engine that the auto companies produce for less money for years to come. But the people are not used to better (and uninformed greatly) so you can sell them anything. Hell, US has been selling us thing for 50% more for decades :P
