  • sorry but this video didn't help me ! .... i have a full hd cam and i want to watch my videos as i recorded it how can i encode this .mts file ?

  • Robert, I followed your steps but when I click on the .mts files from my Canon MG20, I hear the audio but the screen is black. No picture. Windows Media Player can't play them. I am using Windows 7. I downloaded VLC media player and they play fine. But I still can't upload them to Youtube. Any ideas?

  • You rock, thanks Robert!

  • I tried to download it but my computer said the developer was unknown so it could contain a virus so it wouldn't let me use it. Help!

  • I have a HDPVR which makes M2TS videos but when they're saved on my computer and I click on them, at the bottom it says they are a AVCHD video. Will this help me to convert these also.

  • Thank you so much, solved many of my problems.....

  • i just get blank screen on the video

  • @Blazingocean89 Same, and it REALLY bugs me.

  • I have a Sony HDR cx350v. I have a question, what you said about going to the computer drive and opeining up the video from your camera plugged into the computer and watching it on windows movie player, well when i do it the video like lags when it plays. Now is that because of the format or is it the HD quality? And i have a PC computer.

  • Gotta say dude, worked as you said solved my problem completely. Great Job

  • IF you have sony vegas, you can put the mts file(s) format in a new project in Sony vegas, drag it to the video timeline, go to the 'tool' menu, and click 'preview in player'. You can then choose which format you can convert to :D (I choose 'video for windows (.avi)' for good HD video's :D, also good for converting an mts to avi for AFTER EFFECTS :D)

Hope that helped, to sony vegas or after effects user's

  • I just got a JVC HD camera which makes the files mts and I did the converting thing with live movie maker. I uploaded one to youtube once it was converted because it needed no editing but I converting another video and edited it in movie maker 2.6 and when I uploaded it to youtube it was like a box in the video player. if I didn't explain that too good i could link it to you so you can see what I mean.

  • I Downloaded The Codec, But When I Go To Look At The .mts Video Files,

    They Just Look Blank.

    Can You Please Help me?

  • thank youuu!!! I just bought an EXPENCIVE camera, and I couldn't even watch the videos on my pc, so this was REALLY usefull! Thank you!!!

  • I have the HF20 and have a Toshiba(PC) Satellite P35 laptop. I'm not too savvy with video and editing, so maybe you can help? What is the best burner I can get, to burn to DVD format, to be able to playback on my DVD player for my HD-LCD TV? What is the best software now(2011) for the HF20, for playback and editing for PC?

    THANKS!

  • @scootersays On the PC, I'm not quite sure since I spend little to no time using it to work on videos, but try asking around at this forum: "avsforum(dot)com" Same goes for the DVD program/player. I 100% use my Apple computers to produce my videos now, so sorry I cannot help you further.

  • @RobertSmith3 Thanks for the forum info! Maybe an Apple is my best bet and in my near future?...I will ask around.

  • what is the latest codec that needs to be downloaded called?

  • thanks!!!

  • Thanks mate!!

  • Hi, I downloaded the first app, and then connected my camera and opened the STREAM folder. My videos were listed as 000001.mts files but there was no thumbnail image and I couldn't even open them to view them in Windows Movie Maker. Computer has Windows Home.

  • i got a quetion , why do my files look like inslow motion?

  • Thanks for this video! It really helped me out.

  • what's the best format to convert mts to after we're done editing? so that I have the best quality possible for youtube?

  • I have a JVC HD camcorder which comes with it's own (shit) software and totally rapes the original video quality regardless of which mode it's been recorded in. It uses MTS files (AVCHD) and I can play them on my PC no prob but I wanted a better way to convert these to a HD file (H264 like MP4) so youtube sees it as a 720/1080p option for playback. Would you recommend movie maker for this type of conversion? I'm a bit over watching grainy "HD" vids I've recorded and need a solution, thanks.

  • thanks alot but why are my videos so slow when I play them can you help me?

  • I actually convert mine from .mts to M2T, then It plays fine as I edit in Vegas, final file ends up being M2TS... won't play on my computer but shows perfectly on Youtube and on DVD...I got the Canon Vixia Hg21... Check out my interview with MYSTIKAL

  • Thanks, Robert, that works. Although I am not impressed with Canon for having such a user-unfriendly system and I am very unimpressed with the software that came with the camera .

  • Does not work with Vista.... ;(

  • thanks alot man :)

  • i hate windows! i dont know why they make you go through this... just accept all the files like the MacOSX. this is so frustrating and very complicated.

  • lol i know you used imovie for this video, but no offense, i fuckin hate that intro music hahah

  • You have saved my life. Thankyou so much! xD

  • The first thing I need to do is download a what? A Kodiak? I'm not a fan of bears.

  • @sivius LOL!

Yeah, that's what I thought - "what the hell is a CODIAK?" (I like your Kodiak better though)

  • whats the point of downloading the converter if you use windows live movie maker to change it :S

  • hello robert what is the best way to convert .mts(from a canon HF20) on win 7 to a .mov I shoot 60fps 1080i and editing on Avid Media Composer :)

  • @HotelInnHeirs On the PC, I'm not quite sure since I spend little to no time using it to work on videos, but try asking around at this forum: "avsforum(dot)com"

Or try giving Google a try, as I know there are free programs that allow you to convert videos to a wide variety of formats.

  • Hey Robert. I did everything what u said. And for couple month it worked for me. But now I can't add video to live movie maker. It shows this error: 0x87160129

I tried to reinstall ffdshow and movie maker, but nothing happened. Any ideas?

  • hey, umm. i can't seem to drag my video into the movie maker. :S

it says my video is a MTS video.

n that the movie maker doesn't support teh type of video. :S

    help. please.

  • @Chemilha Try to download K-Lite codec pack. It helped to me :)

  • @Chemilha watch the vid moron....

  • Hello, I have a Sony AVCHD Handycam and it shoots in HD. Whenever i upload the files to my computer and play it through any media software ( Editing included), it lags insanly and the sound is off by alot. I upload it to sony vegas and After Effects and both programs will lag terribly and eventually shut down. I dunno if its my computer or if i need to convert the file . Please, Please help me.

  • @RipperEntertainment best to get rid of your camera that uses the very difficult to edit avchd[mts] files on sd cardsMOST editing programs including sony wont support it..i went back to quality dv camera,so i can continue to use sony vegas,no point in converting hd files that will be de graded anyway, and i donT haVE 2000 DOL FOR NEW COMPUTER.its a shame what sony did

  • I'm using Windows7 (64-bit) and have installed the FFD CodeC and then followed it by installing Windows Movie Maker. Every time I drag a .mts file into Windows Movie Maker it stops responding. Could anyone help me with this? Thank you!

  • I did what you said but my Windows media player still doesn't play video properly. I uploaded raw MTS file to youtube but it took 3 hours to upload and audio quality sucked. I don't know what the hell to do!!!!

  • IT did not work for me. windows media play can't play the video properly. Movie maker can't even load it. =( i followed the instructions step by step.

  • I downloaded tht ffdshow and I still can't watch my vids through windows media player. i have a panasonic HD videocamera.

  • Thanks for the great video, it really walked me through the steps. Maybe you have an idea of whats going on here but when I convert the video that video ends up being very small with black bars all the way around, its like it doesnt fit to screen. Is there a setting on the camera that I need to change or am I missing something when converting? Thanks

  • Any ideas?

  • hey man you forgot to mention that you need to change the aspect ration in the view settings to WIDEscreen. so those black bars go away. THEN it lets you save the file in full 1080 High Definition :) thanks for the video man its working so far

  • you dont bother to mention that by converting to those formats the HD file loses significant quality and color depth which makes it look High Def...which in turn defeats the purpose in recording in HD in the first place if the very characteristics which makes it look HD are lost.

  • You don't have to mention it since this video is not concerning what happens to files when you convert them, but specially how to use the PC to convert video from the Canon HF20 to another format. You are always going to loose some quality when converting, but again, the video isn't directed towards discussing that.

  • @RobertSmith3

shit video, and wasted a time. You could explain it in 1 min, not 10. Are you from usa, I think yeeeah. Step by step for idiots! "How to download... how to installl... Idiot for idiots i'm sure

  • @serwisreklamowy you must have been humiliated quite a few times when you were younger. :(

  • yeah thats what happened to me :( color dimmed down and there was more noise in low light

  • @brandonlamarmusic I agree 100%. This is why I hate AVCHD camcorders. Complete waste of money! >8(

  • hey guys and hey rob, if this doesnt work for you like it didnt work for me :( . check out my video

  • Question: When I click on the BDMV folder and it pulls up the video's there isnt any thumbnails picture's of the videos. It shows a traffic cone icon and says VLC type media file (.mts) why is that and how can I get it to pull up the file for windows media player? Also is Windows Movie Maker Live and Windows Movie Maker the same thing? Oh and if its needed info im running Vista Ultimate 64-bit Thank you very much!

  • @some12nvee 1. You have to tell your computer which program opens that file type. Just Right click the file, and select "open with" and find windows media player.

    2. No, windows media player is only a video player similar to quick time, and windows movie maker is a video "editing" program, so you can edit the video.

  • Thanks for the response Robert. I ended up uninstalling VLC media player and restarted my pc. When I opened one of the movie files back up it asked what program I wanted to use to open the file and I chose windows media player. When WMP opened the file it said it didnt recognize the .MTS format and if I still wanted to play the video. I selected yes and when the video finally loaded it was all distorted. The whole picture was green and there was double video playing on the same screen. <Confused

  • Did you download the codec in the description and install it?

  • Yes, I already had FFD Show installed. Just to try it out I went ahead and uninstalled it and re-downloaded it again from the link you provided and the I actually got the video to play through WMP. If I select any of my video's as soon as there is any sort of fast movement like a car moving, the video and the sound lag bad for some reason. Its like they go in slow mode. I dont get it...

  • Well what I hear is, to play raw .MTS files very well, you need a very powerful computer. The reason why I didn't play the raw .MTS file in this video was, my virtual machine that was running Windows 7 simply couldn't handle it, and it was doing the same thing yours seem to be doing. However, after you convert it to another formate, the video plays fine as you see near the end of the video.

  • Okay got it working, had some problems at first with my pc allowing me to download movie maker live for some reason but got it downloaded now and got the video converted. Do you have any idea why when I open the STREAM folder that I still dont see thumbnail pic's of the video's? All it shows is a WMV icon.

  • ok so i tried this . it didnt work. there still in mts file. help please. i did everything you said. still nothing.

  • When you say "they are still in mts file" what do you mean?

Do you have a messenger of some type that we can talk on? If so, send me your ID and the messenger (AIM, MSN, etc.) in a private message so we can figure your issue out.

  • Great Video Robert! Quick question (I haven't played around with it yet), but will this still work with videos that have already been saved to the computer with the Canon/Pixela software?

  • @mrbhappy448

It should, so give it a shot and let us know :)

  • Hey Robert thanks a ton for this video, I have been waiting for this :)))))))))). I will try this and let you know in case of any questions
