Yo I had upgraded my 2007 HP Vista with a new ZOTAC video card and Coolmax 700 watts and when i play games on this its shuts itself down after 20m of gaming but when im tiping or working on my PC it dose not do that. The way i think is that my CPU probably overheating or i did buy not right power supply and i dont wont to start anything else with my COMP until i get some answears thanks.
friends its happen due to rise in tempreature....firstly check your pc's tempreature if it exceeds the limits of temp...then check the paste which is between the cpu and fan...it is responsible for integration of cpu with fan ....if that paste is completely removed then pls buy that from shop and paste it on the fan's bottom after drying it fit the fan on the cpu...hope your problem will solve....and also dont forget to clean your pc..........thanx
when this shit happens its allways either your power supply , graphic card, or CPU thats overheating, hard to tell which ones the culprit though, newer systems have built in temperature monitors , anything over 50c is BAD ideal temp is between 30 and 40C make sure you got enough fans, your power supply needs to have a sufficient enough voltage/watt for all your components and that your VGA card and CPU are firmly in place.
@hughesbill45 i did to waste money on RAM cause i was thinking it was that so took it up to the geek squad at best buy and they told me that i need to have a other fan installed to keep it cool so paid for it and now it works fine
I have a Samsung Notebook R580, pretty good computer, everything runs fine EXCEPT when I'm playing SOME! games!
I just completed Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, and it didn't shut down at once but now I have bought Fallout New Vegas and it starts lagging and shutting down after 2 minutes..
@StarkysWorld hey you should go to geek squad or a trusted computer tech i went to greek squad and the fixed it added a new fan to cool the mother board
@Axorello Only thing i can say is go see a greek squad tech at best buy or trusted pc tech my prob was that i need another fan to keep my pc cool So i got 2 fan now
@Axorello your computer gets hot,,motherboard has a sensor...the cpu is hot too...clean the heatsink fan.. and sut all all inside the pc with air spray, also u may want to add more memory
hey i allso need some help when i play a game (like wow) my computer shutts down after 5-10 minutes and the screen gets black and sais ´´monitor going to sleep´´ anny idea? plz realy need some help :(
@MrPowerbunny Yeah that freakin sucks i know how you feel but what you wanna do is to go see a geek squad tech there the most trusted to me tell them the prob mines was that i needed another fan
@Imemej ok but in this case i dont think its the fan that is the problem you see it shutts down when 1 play some games i cant play wow but i can play wolfteam my brother (7 years old) just played a game on the internet and then it shutts down so we´re going to shange the computer screen and see what hapends but thx for the help :)
@MrPowerbunny hey he shutdwn because the video card doesnt support it that game, dont play it that game or you gonna damaged your video card, graphic card etc.
This happens to me too. I have a PC that works just fine but then I had another computer that was WAY better than the one I always use, so I put my hard drive in my better computer and then worked perfectly for like 5, 10, or even 20 minuts and then shut down all of the sudden, usually happens when im downloading something or playing a game or online
i have the same problem, tried with many games and the system heat goes up and up til it shut downs itself... amd phenom x4 955BE 3.2ghz and Asus 550 GTX 1GB
my pc was shuting down everytime i was playing oblivion or making video's in movie maker, i tried every cleaning software out there had no idea what was causing it, then i found a program called core temp which shows you the temperature of your pc, so i opened it up and started to render out a movie it went from 69°C to 109°C in less the 4 minutes turned out my pc was full of dust my cooler was suffering im gonna clean it every 2 weeks
What was wrong was that with the gateway computer i have has a overheating prob (cheap gateway computers) so to fix this i had to install another fan to prevent it was shutting off also i monthly clean out all the dust.
after putting in the fan i computer works GREAT!!! never had an shut since then hope i dont anymore or am going blow this computer up so check if it that the prob with you computer any more ques just post or send me an megs i try fast to respond
Same thing happens to me when im playing any game like roblox or runescape it just makes a beebing noise and shuts down. i have an acer could anyone help me?
@donda2111 Yes, it is most likely because of overheating. Especially because he mentions games and videos which will heat up your components. And yes, the PC will then shut down to prevent component overheat.
people, people its not the porn or the game that making your pc jizz its pants and turns off.... you have to go the gateway web site and download the the update for the bios... for some reason the fan will start spinning to a certain rpm, then turn off. trust me if all else fails call the tech guys in india......THE REAL 15TH MEU
i have same problem. i have a windows xp and its old and outdated, but it had the requirements to play latest games, because i got a graphics card. now i cant even go on youtube because after 10 mins it shuts. when it shuts down, it wont start up again unless i switch the power button at back on and off . then i press the button on the front and its on. i can play bbc i player all day but not my game star wars kotor2 or youtube, photoshop 7
your problem is your tower is on the floow all the dest and fuss and static is not good for your cooler fins on your vid card and your cpu this will happen every time
But sometimes I can play trough 2-3 hours and nothing happens. Maybe when its a bit colder? I dont know what the fuck is going on, but I'll try to clean the comp up as much as I can, and if it still gives me shut downs then I need a new PSU. Anyways if anybody knows another issue to fix this please send me a message or comment. Thanks!
Crap I have this shit too. Started like a week ago and I'm getting fourious. I read all kinds of forums, some say it's dust some say the power supply is not giving the voltages the computer needs anymore some say it's overheating. My temperatures are 55 for the mainboard, 66/65 for the 2 cores and 62 for the gpu.
When I'm on desktop everything is fine, but when I put it under stress like playing game it shuts off after like 10-20 mins
same problem with my pc, but, now i'd fix already, i just clean up my mother board, my memory my video card and my processor fan, using blower, then now shutting down my pc no more! try it!
my laptop is currently doing this (Windows Vista on an Acer Aspire)....i am thinking it is a preventive measure because underneath it is extremely hot, i mean so hot you could fry eggs. I believe it is shutting down to prevent thermal damage or i may have a battery issue. in a few weeks once i get some money i will take it somewhere to be repaired. but for you i would consider getting one of those processor coolers or check out your processor or memory
i just got this problem, lol. it sounds kinda impossible to be caused by cooling, im using a modded Antec 1200 with 6 pre-installed fans but i remade the left sidepanel to add 4 140mm fans. im also using a V10 cooler master. my CPU is 24 /core and the hard drive is at 31 degrees. and it still shuts of. REAL FUCKED UP! i belvie that Ultimatecannon is correct. it must have to be that yer room is warm and the PC has been on for a while. try turning it off and letting it sit for a while.
I've started having this problem today and i have a pretty good idea of what it is. Last night it was warm in my room. After shutting down my PC it got quite cold, quite quickly. I am quite certain this temperature change has done something to the hardware of my PC. The word/issue i keep finding is "Capacitors" I'm not sure what they are or what they do but i am told they may be broken. I had the same issue with a previous monitor because i left it on 24/7 and it was too hot all the time.
I have same problem im playing LOTR conquest and i deleted all of my games just left that one and it still shuts down do i have to reinstal windows or what!! I NEED HELP GUYS i know u are prof's
I believe your computer is shutting down because of an overheat issue. If you've had the computer for more than a few months, dust may have collected within your system. If I were you, I would ask a professional such as a member of Geek Squad to open up your pc and clean it out. Dust may cause lag and your computer to shut down. I own a Gateway desktop which used to shut off until I opened it up, cleaned the processor fan, and added another fan. Hope I helped!

@lmemej how do you get rid of dust? just that my laptop turns itself off when the chargers out, even though i have 100% remaining, or it just crashes out of nowhere, and it aint a virus, because ive scanned the machine, could you give me some advice?
I have this problem now i think its from watching porn... cuz now everytime i play runescape i can play for like 30 minutes then my computer restarts! im like wtf so now i cant pk anymore!!!!!!!
@paintballerownu5 i have the same problem but i don't watch porn or play runecape maybe it's because I'm over 10 years old... Regardless it keeps shutting down when i try to update to patch 4.0.1 for world of warcraft. I just invested in an 1,800 computer (not including windows 7 ultimate , and a 2tb hardrive... So it's not my system it's my drivers i just cant find out witch one.....
I having the same problem but it online does that when i play full screen games like WIZARD101 awesome game if yo dont like it fine and it also does that when i play COMBAT ARMS. and i have a windows vista computer but my sister boyfriend built the computer out of apple computer parts dell computer parts and more
When I got My Lx6810 fixed I was told It needed A Another Fan Over the motherboard(Im pretty Sure) 2 Keep The System cool If Am Correct But The Prob Thankfully is fix....
I am glad I found someone else with the same issue. I have the same model of computer its a gateway Lx6810. Anyone able to help me with this issue. I would like to hear is anyone was able to fix it without replacing the motherboard.

this definitely does sound like a overheating issue given the sudden cut off of power to the computer and not a virus. a virus of the sort might reboot your computer but it wouldn't shut it down like this.
This is definitely a heating issue hands down. If the video card has an outer shell casing it needs to be removed and the dust blown out and dislodged. The computer needs to be cleaned, BIOS settings don't seem to be an issue imho given that the computer works at all. maybe updating BIOS.
I have that problem too, since I installed windows 7 in my pc I can only play call of duty modern warfare 2 15 minutes. Afyer that time, my computer shuts down just like yours Imemej. I already used 89$ in an Nvidia geForce 8800gt but the problem stills... And I either re-installed windows xp!!! HELP-ME,PLZ!!!
bro i am having a problem lyk yours but m computer doesnt need to be playing a gme after 20 minutes on it it shutsdown now am trying adding a flash drive for extra ram and having no screen saver you should try that too.
i had this problem a while back too, I have the same model of computer. Since it was still under warranty i sent the computer back to the gateway facility. Turns out It was something to do with the bios settings. Lots of gateway computers of this same make and model are having the same issue.
I have the same problem. And just recently it has gotten worst. Just five minutes on Youtube, and it is off. I don't think my computer has any viruses... I mean I just rebooted it, plus I have AVG. So, I'm not sure if it because it's overheating. But, I mean seriously Youtube, five minutes?
my computer turn off when i play runescape or funorb 1-3 hrs later it turns off when i on youtube or sumthing never turns off rply or message me if u have a soultion
I have the same problem but from what i've heard.... this may be caused by some corupt filles on the hard drive ( NTFS filles ) , so i think it will require a windows reinstal.
i have the gateway lx same as yous it might be because the tower itself heats up to much. it does not have enough fans. keep the thing in a cool place
Ok Sent it 2 REPAIR SHOP AT BEST BUY THEY SAID THAT IT WAS SOMETHING WRONG WITH MY MOTHERBOARD SO I GUESS THEY DID SOMETHING 2 THAT BUT NOW IT WORKS GOOD NOW NO MORE SHUTDOWNS
my comp shuts down after like 10 mins of playing a game and i dont think it is an overheat because i could see my breath the other morning and it was like -4 or something and did the same thing and got like the best anti virus ever so wtf... help =(
Can i get help to please my computer was running fine for alot of days i mean alot and sundenly i Got a shut down after that day every like 5 hours or 6 it shuts down idk why but i dont think is the fan cause i have two computers and both happenned the same, Also a thing i installed windows 7 illegaly might this be the problem?
Looks like overheat to me, try using a tool called Speedfan. Right after the PC shuts down, run it and check the temperature, anything from 78 and up is hot enough to cause a shut down.
If that's the problem try adjusting the speed of your fan or put a sweet Zalman CNPS9700 NT cooler on that quad
It looks like to me there is a piece of hard ware that isnt compatible with the software, try updating the drivers on the machine, in some cases that can fix this issue.
It overheating to CPU or Graphic Card mostly laptops 2009 or earlier.

To avoid this:
- You can play games or watch youtube videos but after 2 hours please shut down your computer because it could cause overheat!
- Always turn off the power cord after the computer is turned off
- Turn off the UPS before shutting down the power cord (if nescarry) to avoid some overheat!

Your computer is overheating.

Had almost same problem, but turned out my computer were dirty.. so I cleaned it and every since Ive had no problems..
Snittioett 1 year ago
this definitely does sound like a overheating issue given the sudden cut off of power to the computer and not a virus. a virus of the sort might reboot your computer but it wouldn't shut it down like this.
This is definitely a heating issue hands down. If the video card has an outer shell casing it needs to be removed and the dust blown out and dislodged. The computer needs to be cleaned, BIOS settings don't seem to be an issue imho given that the computer works at all. maybe updating BIOS.

i had this problem a while back too, I have the same model of computer.

DOWNLOAD SPEEDFAN...
EOPN UP YOUR PC AND CLEAN DUST FROM YOUR FAN...
THE PROBLEM IS OVERHEATING
hope this helps
(if still you have the same problem after cleaning the fan then it isnt overheating and you might need to have a technician see it )
good luck and cheers!
jazzmanEE 1 year ago
@jazzmanEE It isn't because of over heating only 10% of it is because of the over heating the other 90% is a viruse
TheFunnycanful 1 year ago
@TheFunnycanful you're exagerating...50% IS overheating pal....viruses usually act differently...
cheers

I have the same problem but from what i've heard.... this may be caused by some corupt filles on the hard drive ( NTFS filles ) , so i think it will require a windows reinstal.

this happens to me too I think it is my fan since some parts of my PC is over heating in Speedfan.
Jerry4050 2 years ago
Looks like overheat to me, try using a tool called Speedfan. Right after the PC shuts down, run it and check the temperature, anything from 78 and up is hot enough to cause a shut down.
If that's the problem try adjusting the speed of your fan or put a sweet Zalman CNPS9700 NT cooler on that quad

It looks like to me there is a piece of hard ware that isnt compatible with the software, try updating the drivers on the machine, in some cases that can fix this issue.
