Remember to ALWAYS reburnish your heatsinks if you clean off the old paste. Take 1000 grit sandpaper from the autostore, and sand the heatsink aread that contacts the paste. Then polish this area with a metal polish safe for Aluminum or copper, we use MAAS. Then clean again with 90%+ rubbing or denatured alcohol. THEN apply your new paste.

DO NOT burnish the cpu or other chips, just clean very well with the alcohol.

Dear sir, I replaced the thermal grease and blew the dust out of the fans on the Xbox 360 and the fans spun faster, but the fans are back to normal. Do you recommend everyone to place his/her Xbox 360 in front of a regular room fan (at least 6 inches high) to cool down the system's heat sinks so that the thermal grease can stay intact and to control the fan speed? And I'm guessing the GPU is the small processor that's above the Processor on the left side? Great tutorial.

Us version of xbox 360 slim sucks it overheats! but the xbox 360 asian version rocks cause from the morning until midnight it's still working playing best graphics gears of war 2 and halo reach so buy the asian version it last long and better.

This does fix the red ring of death but partially, if u want to fix it completely u hve to take out the nub xclamps... Go and search Xclamp fix on how to do it!! Thumbs up if tis helped u!!!

i did this today and believe or not. my shit is actually working now. i still dont get why dont they put the fan against the cpu heatsink and gpu to cool it down. the fan is not cooling it down at all. i cut the fan in half and put it against the heatsink to get it air flow. right.

just to let you guys know... i did this to my xbox and when it finally died out microsoft wont repair it cuz you have tampered with the xbox... so just think about it, wait 1 month to get your xbox back fixed or play with the thermal paste and wait for it to die and not get it fixed at all

I have actually done this because my warranty ran out, due to the poor quality of thermal paste my xbox only lasted a 1-2 months. I am going to dust off my old xbox and maybe try Artic silver 5 or Mx-2 and see if it improves the life of the console.

too late, i removed the warranty sticker about a month ago.

also, if i spray grey paint over the power button will it look bad? because i never use it anyway. i just use the controller for everything.

The best kind of Thermal Paste is AS5 (Arctic Silver 5) and only costs 5 dollars on Newegg, or from your local radioshack.

Yes definetly. But buy some good quality thermal paste like Mx-2. If you buy the cheap thermal grease then you xbox wont last very long.

My xbox got the RROD today. Its only 8 months old . I got a E71 error message and 1 red ring on the bottom right side. Would doing what you did in the video fix my xbox after my warranty is up?? After I downloaded the update today and turned my console off and later back on it did this, why? It seems a little fishy.

When it comes to thermal paste, you should always buy the best, preferably with silver in it (hence the price).

If you look on Ebay, tigerdirect ect, you can pick up some arctic silver for as little as $7... If you aren't gonna buy the good stuff, there's no point doing this because you wont see an improvement over the current thermal paste on there.

I'd say something like Arctic silver 5, Antec Formula 5 or even some Zalman thermal grease... It doesn't really matter so long as you splash out on one of the better names.
