Wow!! The vocals on this, lead and harmonies, are excellent. I never would have admitted to liking Journey back in the day (unless I happened to be liquored-up and feeling candid and sappy), but they were (and are) outstanding musicians/songwriters/performers. The guitarist can play his ass off, the vocals soar, the band seems genuinely happy to be playing, and these guys are tight...thanks for posting this!
Steve was ALWAYS a cutie, still is but he LOOKS SO DAMN GOOD here!!!! I LOVE THIS SONG! My summer song driving with the windows down and the Red hair a flyin WOO HOO... memories.
Schon had his own custom guitar here, you don't see them around any music shops! Randy's playing Jackson well, because he's not Grover Jackson?!?! haha
@windparagon I saw this tour and YES ole Randy was bangin' the hell outta that Bass! AWESOME TOUR... Great memories of JOURNEY, and us ALL in the thousands holding up our cigarette lighters even us who didn't smoke LOL! Was SO NEAT to see the whole concert arena lit up with lighters in dedication of our FAV bands... those were the days.
Watched Randy in an interview last week on tv & they asked him what was the most embarrassing moment with Journey? Randy lol & said there was a few but the one that sticks out most was the blk leather pants he had on for one concert he said that were skin tight. He said they performed for about 45 mins onstage and after they finished, they walked offstage & he asked them whats the deal pointin/laughin? He was told he has a HUGE rip in his pants the last 45 mins lol....his guitar saved him LOL.
Somewhere on youtube here, someone does fire their underwear up on stage and it gets caught on the neck of neals guitar...while neals lol...he cant quit playing to get the panties off of his guitar for a few secs lol...HH is lol his arse off backstage along with some roadies,,,,
Randy was only with Journey for the Raised on Radio tour...Journey actually never finished that tour in 1987 and more or less broke up. When Journey reunited in 1996 it was with their original bass player player who continues with the band today.
What you miss in this version is someone throwing a water bottle at Neil's and Steve's feet at 1:25 and neither one flinches or loses a beat. Simply awesome.
Plus, I wanted to add (but the comment section cut me off because I was writing too much)- In my opinion they all, everyone of them looks GREAT here (not too young, not too old).
This is by far their best song for several reasons. 1) They all get to sing in great harmony with each other. 2) Steve gets to sing his great usual way with some high notes, as he does so well. 3) N. Shon gets to play some outstanding guitar work. 4) J. Cain gets to play a lot of his amazing piano work. 5) So basically EVERYONE is involved in this song. 6) It's a very upbeat lively song, not just another ballard. So those are the reasons that I find this song to be their best!
so sad the bit where steve and neil jamming and smiling at one another,,,,totally loving it......so sad. what could hacve been??----journey will never truelly be journey without perry.hes the heart.
If I ever built a time machine, forget going to see the signing of the declaration of independence or witnessing the birth of christ, I'd go back to see this concert lol
never heard this tune before.. really nice. I have to say, the drummer and Randy really brought a -dare I say- funky groove to Journey... and it's really good, but this was a big departure from the Journey we know and love. In other words, it's not quite Journey without the core group -- but it's still great.
This song is a classic pop track - it's on their Greatest Hits album, which came out in 1988... you need to get that album. I do think this live performance is very vital, and a tad faster than the album version.
Say what you will about this iteration of Journey, but you HAVE to love everybody's '80s hair--especially Steve's. I think this is my favorite of all his 'dos. Even Neal had a little mullet going on. Then you've got Randy's assymetrical fro. I can enjoy the videos from this concert muted--just for the hair.
he is also one a lot of the bay area based band TAXXI albums and also in a video-also co-wrote the song "INFORMATION" W/ERIC MARTIN (of Mr. BIG)...he also plays all over the eric martin album...

Randy Jackson the American Idol Judge was Born: 23 June 1956 in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Steven Randall Randy Jackson the brother of Michael Jackson was born October 29, 1961 and is an American singer and musician. Hes a member of the Jacksons. He is the youngest among the Jackson brothers while Janet is the youngest of the Jackson family.
Neal Schon left Santana to form Journey around 1973-74. Journey broke up in 1987. From there Neal and Jonathan formed Bad English. Their first album was great, their second album bombed. After that, Neal formed a new band, 21 Guns. He also toured with Paul Rodgers. In 1996, Journey got back together.
If you want to hear what a great bass player Randy Jackson is, listen to the Jean-Luc Ponty albums he played on. While I think JLP's former bassist, Ralphe Armstrong, was even a more phenomenal player, Randy held up his end impressively.
