  • Its amazing the amount of sound he can coax out of a 6 string. incredible.

  • nice song!!!!

    ^__^

  • "Nothing new, just simple and touching." HAHAHAHAHA!!!!

  • To those that say he can't hit a note or hold a tune remember he is a lead in a band and a phenomenal lyricyst with the ability to actually play the guitar, very well. Oh and DMB has been around consistently for 19 years!

  • sorry folks this man cant sing hold a note or have a nice voice

  • @willieraye sorry to see that you were born as a deaf baby, its a shame you have to miss out on the John Lennon of our generation.

  • @DmB4LiFe420eL sorry dude this cat cant hit a note & has a s***t voice

  • @willieraye I just farted.

  • @willieraye So go listen to someone who has a voice you enjoy

  • @willieraye While you shine with brilliance!

  • DM <3

  • I feel bad for him. His sister is dead

  • He's playing guitar fiercely here.

  • 4 people were under the curse of Rebecca Black.

  • wow! just wow! :))

  • perfect

  • THIS SONG WAS AROUND LONG BEFORE THESE CROWDED STREETS..

  • Is Jane his sister who died?

  • @headstock48 No, Jane is his younger sister who as far as I know is still alive. Anne was the sister who was killed.

  • @headstock48 How about the song, "Sister"? Is that also about Jane, do you know. Hey, Dave's birthday today. Saw it on Facebook.

  • Does anyone know how he makes his guitar do that little "hiccup" at 0:19?

  • @jhmcdaniel09 you just hit the strings with your hand?

there are many tutorilas on slap techniques ib youtube..

    it's pretty easy

  • @jhmcdaniel09 you hit the open E and slam down on the G chord real quick like.

  • HOW can he make a frigging acoustic 6-string sound so unbelievable?!?!?!

  • @zphafman Big talent and expensive guitar? Makes this mere mortal feel small.

  • haha...didnt even notice like 3 ppl told u months ago haha w/e i love dave

  • Little thing is the name of the song about the girl in NYC...the intro @ luther college is hilarious

  • Feelin much dave. The man.

  • Love this song solo.... This must bring dave back to the beginning.. wonderful version. thanks for the videos!

  • @kamikazimunkey..

thank you so much. That's exactly it.

  • Need help finding a dmb song I heard once. It's about a girl he meets in the street of NYC and he forgets to ask her name or something like that. Can anybody tell me what the title of the song is please.

  • @highlandFling Little Thing. It was redone and released on Some Devil under the title "An Another Thing" You can find a live version titled "Little Thing" on Live at Luther College.

  • @highlandFling little thing "Damn, she was fine"

  • lol...true

  • I was into Dave back when Before These Crowded Streets came out, and I'm just returning. Dude I missed some wonderful stuff I was such an idoit for leaving :(

  • you're right, you did miss a buncha cool stuff.. not this song though, this tune came way before BTCS mon.

  • Bought Big Whiskey a few days ago track 1 Leroi's solo nearly made me cry

  • what could have ever steard you away from the heavenly musicians known as the Dave Matthews Band?

  • Pure foolishness, I was young I tells ya, I didn't know the damage I had done! :S ;o)

  • @MrCopperhead1861 what made you leave in the first place?

  • @MJandDMB4Life I was mad they didn't finish the LWS and hated Busted Stuff. I thought at the time they should out to "pop" but Big Whiskey shook me out of it. Dave, baby, I was a fool and angry, take me back and I'll never leave you again! :O)

  • @MrCopperhead1861 this is like one of his first songs ever its not new at all

  • @kcfgdhj I'm aware, I've heard his original demo of this song from '91. Its also on their very first album Remember Two Things. (1993) My comment was more general I guess. I stopped listening to Dave's newer stuff in early 2002 after I heard Busted Stuff (I loved the Lillwhite stuff and was angry he didn't finish.) But then I found this concert and fell back in love. I was a Fool To Think, he didn't have any genius up his sleeve, and Grux reignited my passion for DMB.

  • @MrCopperhead1861

I was so-so on the studio stuff for the most part after Summer So Far never got finished, but yeah, Grux is killer!

  • @MrCopperhead1861 you never really miss music.

    its always there :D

  • My absolute favorite versions of this song...There is an innocence to this words and the way he plays it... beautiful.

  • my mom loved this song.... she called it the song that Kirsten likes (cuz thats her name) good memories.... :).... :( i miss my mom....

  • I miss mine a well :(

  • The song was created as it sounds now, and Dave had no title for it, it was his sister Jane's favorite song, that's why it's called that, she had nothing to do with the writing of it. Just the fact that she liked it.

  • BIG up, my favorite version of this song, bless

  • "I got a little sister named Jane. This is the song that she likes."

  • I always heard that this song was written for Dave's sister Anne who was murdered by her husband in 1994. However Dave named it for his other sister Jane . Can anyone confirm?

  • I don't like the ensemble version of this song but i LOVE this solo acoustic! It doesn't get any better then Dave.

  • yes it does hobbes yes it does

  • listening to this song just makes life a little bit better

  • idk but he always plays a taylor 714

  • the 714 is now one of his raised-b guitars. he used it as his main stage guitar for one year in early 2000's. He uses the 914c as his main stage guitar now...

  • taylor 914 ce

if you're looking to pick one up should only put you back about 4 grand

  • No Dave could not really get this song right. In other words he kind of had writers block. So he called his sister Jane to help him with it. That is why it's called "The Song That Jane Likes"

  • no sir sox fan.. are you sure your not thinkin of sister.. watch live at radio city to see that one.. and hes been playin this song since there wasnt even a band..

  • soxfan is right. why couldn't he have writer's block at the begininning?

  • mcmuffin is right.

This song is called the song jane likes because well, Jane likes it.

Sister was written on the guitar, but he had no idea what lyrics to add. He called Jane for ideas since he had writers block, and he came up with the idea to write it about her.

  • no, this was the one of the very first songs Dave wrote, but he didn't know what to call it. It was originally called "The song with no name." Of the songs he had written at the time, this was his sister Jane's favorite, so he called it "The Song that Jane Likes"

  • this song is co-written by Dave ,it is one of the first songs he ever co-wrote ,

  • exactly. people on youtube have no idea what they're talking about haha, glad to see you know your DMB and not just how to play it!

  • I really want to see a solo show!!

  • Me too. I could die a very happy man after seeing one.

  • the remastered cd is for sale on the dmb website.

  • Is this about his sister that he lost? I've never heard it. Ridiculously good, like Dave.

  • This song has no actual meaning, referring to dave.

His sister who was killed by her husband was called anne, Jane is his younger sister.

  • Not about his sister but she really liked this song, hence the name

  • Yes..that is how I heard it at his concert, he simply said, "I have a little sister called Jane and this is the song that she likes. So I simply called it, The song that Jane likes."

  • Most people don't realize how hard it is to play music, much less write it. I'd like to know where all the band members are from, maybe one is from LA, maybe not, but he has a tight band.

  • They are all from charlottesville, Va (Point of pride for me my family is from that area too not that it matters) but they all came from all walks of life and all sorts of places, but they were founded and mostly grew up in charlottesville. in my opinion Stefan lessard (bass) is the most accomplished, he was admitted early to VCU school of music and dropped out that summer to join DMB at age 16 Dave likes to say Steffan is the only person he knows that dropped out of high school AND college :)

  • Stefan the most accomplished? Not even close. Dave's the greatest writer of the 90's, and Carter's ability exceeds everyone else's. Even LeRoi, when he solo'd, everyone watched and listened. Stefan is incredible, but def can't say most accomplished

  • I didn't say i thought Stefan was the most talented and i wasn't reducing Dave's ability but Stefan plays like 8 different instruments and had all but mastered them by age 15 and got into an extremely competitive music university 2 years before he graduated High School

  • So that measures accomplished? Getting into universities doesnt mean shit i measure accomplished by what i hear first off, and second dave is obviously the most accomplished wrote more hits than anyone

  • im guessing john lennon is not in your world then eh.......fail

  • Comment removed

  • the whole Benoyara set is unreal...i need this.. and this I must say is best if not top 3 songs he plays in the set..the guitar..his voice..the mutes..its so awesome...i cannot listen to Benoyara enough

  • By far, his most underated song right here. THis song is amazing.

  • couldnt agree more. hope they bring it back more this summer then they did last.

  • this song is brilliant.. and to think, he wrote it when he was in his early 20's

  • i believe this was one of his first songs he wrote lyrically and guitar wise... i enjoy the story he is singing about.

  • It is. On VH1's Driven they talk about him playing this in Amsterdam when he was over in Europe for awhile in between Johannesburg and Charlottesville.

  • heart heart N

  • just amazing...! I love him so much..! The best songwriter and Performer i've ever seen...

  • love this song

  • Yea he came to atlanta my sister went but i didnt she said it was amazing i am ready for next year so i can go again!

  • this song was played 2nite in tampa!!! dmb brought it back 7/9/08

also sugar will came back 2nite!!!!!

  • it is a great song to hear live..

heard it 8/8/07 last summer.. i was stoked..

    lucky ya heard sugar will...

  • I was at that show too. absolutely incredible.

  • I hate you right now.

  • haha, 8/8/07 was my first concert, and it was absolutely fucking amazing. It is the reason that I became obsessed with DMB. I went to SPAC night 2 this past summer, widely regarded as the best show of the tour and possibly the best show in 5 years, but in my opinion Camden night 2 8/8/07 was better.

  • just unreal....what a sweet melody!!!

  • Love this song

  • purely amazing.

  • If someone ever was a song writer and performer it was David.

  • @bobthwart In my world he is the only song writer and performer... There is no other band in my eyes! Except Pink Floyd lol, they're pretty dasmn good too.... But Dave comes first forever!

  • @SteveTyree28 Dude! you must be boring.

  • @bobthwart He is a song writer and performer. A nice attempt at being profound though.

  • @jiggity99 Is that not exactly what he just said? Nice attempt at trolling though.

  • absolutely beautiful. Im seeing him three times this summer. IBYU and this are pretty rare. only heard this once in 8 shows.

  • awesome song

  • No there isnt chill bitch lol bitch ya take that ya olo

  • He had an older sister Anne who was killed by her Husband in South Africa. Then he has a younger sister named Jane. "Sister" is written about Jane. If you search Dave Matthews Sister on here he talks about her in the Farm Aid 2006 video and another one. He had the tune but not the lyrics. Jane helped him out by telling him just to write it! LOL.

  • I love the tribe of heaven album!! does anyone have "fool to think" from this show? I can't seem to find it anymore???? help me, I love that song and the version from this show was amazing!

  • Search 'dmb fool to think benaroya hall'

  • Reminds me of the Tribe of Heaven version, outstanding!

  • The song is about his earlier days in Va, in school and in plays, getting high all the time and trying to write songs..."torching time, talking rhymes in..." real simple. he;s just looking back on those days when he was struggling to make it in the states...

  • anyone know where i can get this performance either on cd, or dvd?

  • a really good version is at his performance at the gorge

  • i really love this song! is it supossed to make sense, or is it just one of those songs where it means something to the artist but no one else really get it?

  • Its about his earleir life when he was in plays.Dont know much besides that.

  • The lyrics are written in almost a letter form, similar in some ways to The Beatles "When I'm 64". The lyrics also suggest references to Dave's acting days in the Charlottesville theater

  • yeah I agree, I've been a huge fan since the start and I still don't really get this song. It's a lot of silly poetry that probably doesn't even mean anything, just sounded good to him in his early 20's when he wrote it. fack it

  • Mark Roebuck wrote most of the lyrics. But yeah, they really don't make that much sense.

  • his right hand.......r u serious

  • even though he is using basic chords, he strings them together in a way that sounds so incredible, not too many guitarists could do it.

  • Agreed. People say they can play his guitar parts and then you hear them and they never sound as clean or percussive as the way he plays them.

  • Danm dave has such awesome guitars.

  • This song didn't have a name so he called it "the song that Jane likes" because she liked it. "Sister" is about Jane.

  • jane is alvie-the song that jane like

sister of 2006 is about jane as well

dave also did a song called sister when his sister (anne) died and he only played it once

  • i wish people would stop bickering about who knows more about dave, his life, and his songs, just druel over the song he's playing and wish you could play like that then move on.

  • hah thats great ...and i agree man everyone argues like they actually know the guy

  • well correct information, is correct information

  • jane is alive and this is her song..."Sister" is about the sister that passed away

  • No it's not....

This is The Song That Jane Likes arguabley the first song Dave wrote.

"Sister" is a newer song also written about JANE, not his deceased sister, Anne.

  • "Sister" is not about his sister that passed away. just wanted to let you know this.

LOL.

  • i think its a good song and i didn't even know he had a sister

  • He had an older sister Anne who was killed by her Husband in South Africa. Then he has a younger sister named Jane. "Sister" is written about Jane. If you search Dave Matthews Sister on here he talks about her in the Farm Aid 2006 video and another one. He had the tune but not the lyrics. Jane helped him out by telling him just to write it! LOL.

  • That's a different sister.

  • good song if you know his sister's past

  • the song called SISTER is about the sister your thinking of!
