  • thanks to THE O.C. to introduce the music of this guys

  • where have i heard this before? it must be a movie or something but i have no idea...

  • @MrSmokebowls It was in a Saturn commercial years ago

  • this is good for driving

  • ohhh that ending! We've been had god damn it!

  • What is wrong with the ending?

  • @pimpkkk123 dat fuckin ad dude

  • I swear I saw a video for this song years ago where they were playing the song in their studio. What happened to that? Or is that a different song?

  • MAGOG AND SHIT

  • sometimes you are watching a new artist and you just know it is greatness on an epic scale, out of nowhere reinventing it all from scratch

  • LOVE LOVE LOVE The Walkmen!

  • @gologol thanks. :) why dose he say we've been had, you say its over, somtimes im just happy im older. what dose that mean?

  • @slowitdownforme Breaking it down: "we've been had" is an expresion you might use when you realise you've been conned/cheated; if someone says to you "it's over" it might be in the context of a battle being lost (metaphorically speaking, perhaps) or a relationship coming to an end, or, in a more positive sense, an ordeal finally finishing; we associate aging with wisdom and experience, and you'd usually say you're happy you're older when comparing it to unfortunate events from your youth.

  • @slowitdownforme So to join it all together and offer an interpretation, the protagonist seems to be reminiscing about coming of age at a time when his naive impression of the world was shattered, causing him to feel cheated. "You say it's over" could be referring to youth coming to an end or, in a more figurative sense, to losing the battle of youthful rebellion, etc. When he reminisces in this way, he's happy that the exprience of age has graced him with a more realistic/thoughtful outlook.

  • @nichoji you couldnt have said it better. :) after literally listening to this song a thousand times i understand it a hundred and ten percent. ooh this song is so beautiful remined me of, well me. Of growing older and seeing what life is really about. thanks!

  • dose anyone know what this song is about, id love to know ive fallen in love with this song..

  • @slowitdownforme I think its about being young in the modern generation, and struggling with growing up and working everyday 9 to 5. And not buying into it.

  • I love this

  • Mr. Orbison would be proud.

  • awesome tune,,,,but that fucking ending. Bring her back to life? I'd bury the bitch all over again under a fucking bridge.

  • Take that ending off! Please. Please. Please.

  • great album new computer gave alot of cd's away including this one :( stupid.. wheres everyone dl music off these days....

  • the thing in the end freaks my ears and my eyes out. i'm trying to enjoy the black and white slowness and the mellow piano melody then some ugly cartoon red head pops and with some weird ass music.

  • hahahahhahahahahahhahahahahah the ending is epic lolz

  • "and she would do it again if it brings her back to life"

you are the definition of a shitkunt

  • i love it ♥ :D

  • ending: :/

  • Great song, Bullshit ending.

  • this is some of the little evidence that

shows that music is not dead

  • I saw the Walkmen at the variety playhouse yesterday, and shit, they're even better live!

they said that this was the first song they ever wrote as a band.

easily one of my favorite shows ive ever been to, even though there was an annoying, 7 foot giant that tried to get in front of me. but I won.

    awesome show!

  • i never watch this video but the song is the shit.

  • paul looks so young

  • Why people ruin a perfect video with trash like that at the end is beyond me

  • What the hell was that ending all about ?!

  • This is such a great song. Its so cheerful yet creepy, sort of like a clown... moody and depressing, yet nostalgic...

  • wow,

    i just fell in LOVE<3

  • They are playing on my birthday, sweeeet!

  • Love this song so much!

  • 17 people have no heart...

     I love this song!!

  • I initially heard this song...or rather a piece of it, on a car commercial while living in New Hampshire. I freaked...loved it. So, I got online and found the website for the car company (can't remember which now...) asking them for the name of the band who sang this song...

For me to go to that amount of trouble just to hear a song...now that is a big deal. Only one problem...it's the only song of theirs I like. Ha!

  • @jimbad1 check out 'in the new year', that's pretty awesome too.

  • @edjones5568 thanks for that...I've gotta get ready for work, but will check it out as soon as I get home this evening! I really appreciate you're taking the time to let me know...I'm pretty particular about music, but will definitely check it out. Jimbad

  • what douche bag would want to put that shit song and shit illustration at the end!?

  • such a great song. Absolutely nothing wrong with this entire song.

  • Such a great song! Not one thing bad about it.

  • hahahaha fucking scamp

  • je te aime beacoup mon amour daniel, este video es para ti amor

  • song of the day!!!

i really like this video for some reason. overall, i think the walkmen are a pretty good band when they aren't too pop.

  • Did these guy have an influence on cold war kids? Because i could definitely see it in the cwk's music

  • @sensweep Maybe not an influence (I don't recollect CWK listing them as an influence), but there are definitely similarities in their music.

  • This song captures the mood of NYC during the fall and winter months, PERFECTLY.

  • When I first heard this song ( before knowing who the band really was) I assumed they were from the DC area because of the use of go-go. It's such a DC thing to say now and days. Turns out only one of them are from DC.

  • @ksb78

I think they are originally from DC. Like every good New York band: from somewhere else, originally.

  • I should do that one day soon...or else i will collapse! lol!

  • actually might be my fav song ever. so genius

  • Comment removed

  • awesome song

  • awesome song!!!!!! I've been listening it times and times again.....!!!!!

  • It was a volkswagon ad.

  • @AugustKrueger Mitsubishi

  • its actually a saturn commercial. when a group of adults go into a town called childhood.

  • FISTICUFS!!!

  • i like to fight and play piano too

  • this is different than I remember....what the heck happened to the first video ???

  • really wish that jam at the end would go on for another 2 minutes..

  • Me too :)

  • Their sound reminds me of the city. I love it!

  • yeah that was back when they were putting alot of cool songs on car commercials and such. wish i could find the original video for this song. it was soooooo much better. i dont know why they put this one out, blah!

  • does anyone remember the original video for this song? it was the band all playing together in black and white. it kinda reminded me of doves"catch the sun video" but in b/w. i dont remember this sucky version of the video.

does anyone remember this song on the saturn car commercial?

see me age 19 with some dumb haircut from 1960! hahaha

  • I remember the Saturn commercial!

  • Same here. :)

"Reclaim your childhood." Or something like that. lol

  • one of the best songs EVER

  • Yea I agree, I could never get tired of this song. I notice it pops in and out of my life, but always leaves me feeling happy and reminiscent.

  • awesome band, so underrated

  • Did they play this song at Pitchfork? I know that they played it in '06. I love The Walkmen. I am excited to see them in New Orleans in September.

  • I just saw them last night at Lees Palace in TO. Unfortunately they didn't play this song.

  • love love love love this. This song is in The perks of being a wallflower. . . I get to see the walkmen tomorrow in Chicago @ Pitchfork. woohoo!

  • There's a movie for Perks of Being a Wallflower? Never knew that.

This is my current favorite song.

  • Aww no, the song is just mentioned in the book.

    If only though, if only.

  • commercials tend to kill good music

  • Not always. Sometimes ads introduce songs to people. That can never be bad in my opinion.

  • THis was in a car commercial, can't remember which one.

  • Saturn.

  • Hey Punch, this song was in a Saturn Ion ad, its was about leaving childhood. I'm the ad is here on youtube somewhere(what isn't?). I first heard the song in a film and knew I had heard it in a commercial as well.

  • ich liebe the walkmen.

    eine meiner lieblingsbands!!!

  • great song.. but evanescence ending is gross :)

  • maro... i couldn't have said it better about the ending especially!

  • @marokokisetter this music is mainstream shit, get some taste boy

  • @marokokisetter i know what the hell lol

  • somehow it got easy to laugh out loud...

  • This song is fuckin great!

  • great song. plus they haven't sold out yet

  • 'somehow it got easy to laugh out loud" speaks great truth to this thing called 'getting older'. Cheers guys

  • amazing song! the walkmen are so great!

  • I absolutely love this song! I don't get the video though.

  • unbelievably amazing

    these guys are geniouses

  • My favorite song

  • I hate the crap right at the end. Propa spoils the mood.

  • yea that ending was disgusting

  • @UzumakiBilly yea i was pretty pumped...now i dont know what to do

  • No the courteeners dont sound like the walkmen in my opinion :) i saw courteeners live xD theyre awesome

  • this song relaxes me :) love it!

  • help!!

what's their best album? i heard random songs from different of their albums, but i don't want to just spend money, what album should i get??

  • I'd reccomend bows and arrows myself...

  • I've just realised...tell me if i'm wrong..just played the Courteeners and i reckon they sound like these??

  • somehow it got easy to lol

  • This brings back some good memories of a great semester at school:D! Good times, yo.

  • such a cool band i dont think they care about fame they just seem to like playin. take em or leave em UNderstated ness

  • i love this. btw i think the missed note is there on purpose

  • awesome song absolute favorite... too bad the crap at the end ruins the mood.........

  • lol

  • What? You can jam that thumb up your butt redneck.

  • wtf.

  • get negative attention on a less tasteful video dumbass

  • that was supposed to be in response to kornnation's nonsense

  • haha, the sour note.

    i<3walkmen:]

  • amazing song. though i can't help but notice the sour note at 1:34.

  • you bastard, never noticed it but i'll never miss it now haha.

  • it's intentional

  • unless you mean the singer

  • no i mean i think they know it was there and left it in for artistic purposes or whatever. it just happened to bother me for some reason. i respect it though.

  • underrated.

  • These are so under-rated.

  • I second that

  • Love this song.

  • is that him and the drummer fighting?

  • This reminds me of a road trip I took to Northern California from Indiana. Nothing like this song on the open road...

  • i love the opening.

  • I listen to this song every morning on my way to school. Good morning driving tune, gets ya up and in a chipper mood :D

  • indeed......and why have the walkmen still not hit it big time

  • yeah cause every band that hits it big kicks ass and every band that doesnt sucks balls. your a fuckin' genius

  • whaaat whats this all about I LOVE THE WALKMEN Im just saying it supprisis me they havent hit big time. Because they deserve a LOT better. Unfortunatly you have to be "radio frendly" to hit it big time in this world!!

  • i sing along to this. can't help it! the piano is always on my mind

  • love it

  • great song...

  • Really surprised I've never seen this commented on...doesn't anybody hear in the opening riff from this songs almost a processed sample of "Everybody's Talkin", particularly since they did that whole Nilson cover album?

  • C'est exelent !

  • pretty sweet. as sweet as my sweet vagina.

  • prove it

  • i'll be the judge of that

  • I STILL love this song. It never gets old...

  • ok...like i said before, i love this song and i keep coming to watch the video. but one thing that gets me upset every time is the music at the end with the cartoon. if i wanted to hear music from Evanescence i would search for them. it takes me out of my Walkmen Mood. besides you can't even compare the two.

  • Hasn't this song been i a commercial, ive been lookin all over for this song im a Walkmen fan and didnt know this was their song I only saw the title when i went lookin through their stuff for song titles online. This is so cool!!!!!

  • I think it was in a Nissan commercial.

  • 2003 Saturn ION comercial

  • An amazing song, agree about the lyrics standing out. Hope they tour in UK again soon!

  • Masterpiece

  • I'm a certified music nut, but, I have to admit, I rarely pay attention to lyrics. This song, though -- these are some of the best lyrics I've heard in a relatively new song in a long while. The second verse particularly -- "See me age nineteen with some dumb haircut from 1960," etc. -- always gets me. Don't know why, really.

  • me too, that has always been my favorite part.... LOVE IT!!!!

  • Ah, thanks for replying. It's always good to know someone out there agrees with you.

  • Always gets me too. I think it is the way they mellowed the instrumentation to make the lyric stick out far.

  • I first heard this in June 2003. Funny how I remember that exactly and the impact it had on me.

  • the walkmen :D

  • Amazing how all trolls sound the same.

  • how does this sound anything like radiohead!! nothing like the hives either. The Strokes are the only band which is even part of the same "sound" the Walkmen are hugley VU based non of the others are. The walkmen are a moany band the guitar moans the lead singer moans ect ect a lot like VU anyway what you listen to?

  • I don't think the vocals are quite moaning. But, yeah I see where you're coming from.

  • well they also sound alot like Tokyo police club

but i do agree with the strokes and them sounding alike

  • sorry the strokes are the only band in the same sound/seen not that they sound ti much alike. They sound most like VU then anybody else

  • Tokyo Police Club suck.

They shouldn't even be mentioned in the same sentence as the Walkmen.

  • HAHAHAHAHAH!

    Keep dreaming, little boy.

  • i think i'm the little boy cause i just shit my pants when i read buckeye's little comment

  • lmao.
