  • Im 15 i have it!

  • What was the volume mate? Im thinking of getting one too 2266, but even though Ill use it for concerts, Id still love to use it as a bedroom amp sometimes cause the MG cant compare to this...

    would my neighbours survive it?

  • @dzava The Vintage Modern has a post phase inverter master volume, so it sounds good at very low levels. I owned the combo for a year and a half. On stage I would set the master volume to 7 and it rocked. At home I set the master to 0.5 and it still sounded good. So yes, your neighbors won't mind.

  • You have and overdrive pedals on this mate or jus the guitar and amp..

    Nice Video BTW :)

  • Man I love this amp and hope someday to own one! Even the combo vintage modern has a great sound! The guitar is great too and hope to own that as well, I have the PRS SE Singlecut to start. Is that a custom 24?

  • were you born in a f'n barn or WUT??? baaaaaa. hahaha. GN'Rs version ROCKS!

  • what kind of prs is that? sick amp though!

  • From what i've seen on your vid's you strayed from what I have now (3 channel dual rect) to a bogner shiva, which sounds awesome too, am i right? I'd love to hear your feedback. I have the closed back mesa cab too, thinking of trying some green backs or another marshall cab, let me know how you like it

  • man, the bogner shiva you demo'd kicks this in the arse.

  • Does this amp like to be cranked, I tried one but I couldn't not crank it too much so I'd like to know if it really opens up at higher volume.

    thanks

  • As far as i've heard, all tube amps are supposed to be cranked to get the real tone out of it. So yes, this amp "likes" to get crank'd!

  • all tube amps do, especially around 5 or 6 start hitting the sweet spot

  • All Marshalls i've encountered like to be cranked. Its that power tube saturation that makes a Marshall a Marshall. Any good tube amp sounds better cranked, and the VM is no exception

  • Im sorry, but that is one sterile sound amp. I think I will stick with my Metroamp plexi.

  • i dont think its the amp, it just doesnt work well with that mesa cab, if it had an Orange cab it would be alot better

  • or maybe the matching vintage modern cab?

  • The vintage modern is everything but sterile my friend. I would have to say this amp is probably the best Marshall amp in years after the plexi.

bigdumbface, you rock dude!!! Great technique and style. Post more vids!!!

  • i agree.

  • MOTORHEAD

  • nice playing dude

  • That's the most subtly-designed, understated Flying V I've ever seen.

  • lol

  • that is a paul reed smith guitar

  • does the the v mabey stand for the roman numeral '4'?

  • nice numerals, that's genial.

V is for 5... As in Mesa Mark V

  • doh is my face red !

  • no.. 5... idiot...

  • nice

  • what are your settings?

  • GOO THEE KOOKS!!! :P haha

  • Nice PRS!

  • nice playing!

i can't fucking decide which head im gonna choose. what do u guys mean?

marshall dsl 50, jvm, vintage modern or ENGL screamer???????

  • I'd say get the Vintage Modern

  • Defenetly the ENGL or the DSL!

I have the tsl witch sound almost the same, look my channel for a demo with a sm57.

  • Vintage modern all the way, plus ten.

  • i'd narrow it down to a vintage modern or an ENGL screamer.... vintage moderns are bitchin' when cranked, but engls are really versatile

  • what are your settings?

  • yeah a 50 watt amp and you can mic it up and play in a stadium with no trouble. It's all about the PA. Now even in a club a 50 watt amp is plenty of ass unless you are not micED up etc. Anyway u get the drift

  • it would be louder by appx 15% according to the experts. The downside is that a 100 watt head needs to be cranked louder to really heat up those tubes and breakup getting the best sound. To get a 100 watt amp to sound great you need to crank it to volume 6, 7+ which in your house would be s loud and overkill and you're gonna be asked to turn down in clubs too unless you turn down to volume 2 and like having a thin sound in the PA. a 50 watt is PLENTY of power and sounds great at lower volumes

  • right on. These salesmen in Guitar Center sell to kiddies of rich parents 100watt setups, just to make a sale, but like you said, all they need is 30 to 50 wts at most. They're playing in their bedrooms for gods sake!

  • a 50 watt tube head compared to a 100 watt tube head is 2 power tubes less and reducing the wattage 50% only accounts for a 15% reduction in sound when going from 100 to 50 watts. So it will still be loud as all hell in your house

  • so if I got the 100w there would only be a few decibels difference in volume?

  • haha im only 15 but i dream of owning this amp in a few years

  • what does your age have to do with owning this amp. i know kids younger then you with this amp.

  • i think what jimihendrix5557 means is that only being 15 he is far from funding such amplifier,

  • so what...im only 16 but i have a JCM2000 and a Mesa 4x12...your age has nothing to do with it

  • well not everyone has rich parents

  • i bought it all myself you dick

  • ya but if your parents bought it for you it's different. I have no income, and I'm 15.

  • You know there are lots of great videos around here that feature the wonderful Vintage Modern amps (this one being one of them)...

However don't all you Youtubers think itd be refreshing to see a Vintage Mod vid that isn't some dude playing the blues and instead some HEAVY METAL SHREDDING??!!

If so check out my vids!!

  • true!!. How do they go for metal?

  • They're great for metal if set up right! If you want to see check out my vids!!

  • Beautiful guitar! :)

  • What are you playing at 3:15? My friend plays that on bass all the time!

  • Hey, I have the same amp, just wondering, how many valves are in the back of yours? Mine only has two, not sure if this is right, just that the classic channel seems really quiet.

    Thanks

  • These heads come in 50 and 100 watt models. The 100 watt models will have 4 KT66s, and the 50 watters will only have 2. The thing is, there won't be much of a difference in volume between the two models, because it takes 10x the wattage to double the percieved volume of a sound. A 50 watt amp is only slightly quieter than a 100 watt amp.

  • what are some of the differences?

  • People tend to say that 50 watt amps have less headroom, and a bit more gain. 100 watt heads tend to break up later. Volumewise, however, a 50 watt head is only a few decibels quieter than a 100 watt head.

  • iv asked alot of people for a definition for headroom but all the answers iv gotten have been really vague. can you fill me in?

  • "Headroom" or "Clean Headroom" refer to when an amp starts to break up into overdrive/distortion. For example, a fender twin reverb has lots of headroom- it doesn't start to break up until very high volumes. On the other hand, an amp such as maybe a

1959slp has fairly little headroom- you start to get overdriven tones while very low on the volume dial. Hope this helps...

  • well then why would it be good to have an amp with alot of headroom?

  • It's really a matter of personal preference. Some may prefer an amp with less headroom, and using the volume control on their guitar to go from clean to overdriven sounds. Others may prefer an amp with a clean channel with lots of headroom, and use pedals, or a separate gain channel for dirt. Both have their advantages and disadvantages.

  • so a 50 watt will work perfectly for house volume because you dont have to pull it to a huge volume and disturb your neibourghs to have a breakup or not? (sorry for the bad english)

  • so a 50 watt will work perfectly for house volume because you dont have to pull it to a huge volume and disturb your neibourghs to have a breakup or not? (sorry for the bad english)

  • Somewhat. It will depend on the amp. Many 50watt amps will still be very loud at break up. If you are worried about disturbing neighbors, I would recommend an attenuator. The THD hotplate, and Dr. Z Air Brake are two good options. Ted Weber also makes very nice attenuators.

  • Headroom is usually referring to the point at which an amp starts to "clip" on the clean channel. You might be familiar with the good old sine wave from maths. What happens when an amp starts to clip is the peaks and troughs of the wave literally get clipped off. The onset of this phenomenen called clipping will occur sooner on a lower wattage amp than a higher wattage one hence the term headroom.

  • did the vintage modern come with a footswitch or do u have to buy one separate?

  • From what ive been told it comes with one.

  • can you hear the head if its not connected to any cabinet??? or do u need the cabinets for any sound?

  • Yes you need a cabinet. In terms of tube amps, you can seriously damage a tube head if its not connected to a cabinet. Dont try it. I have first hand experience.

  • oooh what! i did not know that! thank you so much :)

  • awesome dude!

  • awesome dude!

  • Marshall is THE amp that everyone else had to copy. If Marshalls sucked then why have thousands of bands used them since the 60s

Mesa came about when a guy tried to turn a Fender into a Marshall

  • Marshalls were origanally the british copy of Fender amplification. Obviously it was impossible to completely copy the American fender amp, with british parts. Thus thats where the famous marshall sound came from. Marshall turned out to be a great amplifier company, but a copy nonetheless. (not a very accurate copy though)Fenders are the origanal.

  • I love how you can get so many tones from just using the guitar. I was going to get a JVM until I saw what this amp could do.

  • I play hard rock, rock, and classic rock a mix between all 3. I've never played a marshall amp either those have nice clean sounds tho not all but some. What amps do you recomend

  • I heard the mesa boogie amps are freaken amazing...please respond I want to know

  • what type of music do you play, yes amazing for hard rock, metal, can sometimes have nice cleans but for classic rock led zep acdc nono. What music do you play

  • all i know is that their expensive..But U GET WHAT U PAY FOR! :P

  • marshall is better if you want a more blusy musical sounding distortion, mesa boogie has a more distorted tone that can be a little too distorted for some types of music but most modern musicians use mesa boogie, mesa boogie also has a better clean channel

personaly i prefer marshall but its your choice

  • the boogie lonestars have really nice cleans, but if you look at who plays/played Marshall in thee past, that also might help you.

  • Pay no attention to the wankers, it sounds great...

  • Kinda hard to judge from a cam-microphone, but I think it has a diode feeling to it, which does not give the sound that Vintage sound. ;X

  • yeah me neither

  • I have one of these amps and it's tone is far richer than comes over on you-tube. It can be made to sound more 'vintage' or 'plexi' than here. It has a proper KT66 bassiness.

This is a great clip though, and was enough to sell me on the amp.

    Nice bit of 'kooks' too!

  • alright thanks for your opinion

  • Nice cabinet! Now get a better amp.

  • To Be Fair, I have a Mesa Boogie, Bogner and Orange on the other side of the room..

  • That's fair enough. :)

  • thats more fair than you can shake a stick at!

  • @Lol927837 what can be better than a marshall ?????

  • @spudgun05 To be honest, I've played some VM's now and i take back my statment that I wrote 2 years ago.. :)

Just sold my ENGL and bought a Marshall JVM 2 months ago ;)

  • @Lol927837 Its funny to me, cause Chris Broderick went the other way around, when he's mass produced JVM died on him.

  • @Strateuphoria Different taste.. And he's got one of the more expensive ENGLs. Which are great amps too.. :)

  • @spudgun05 a vintage plexi

  • @Strateuphoria PLEXI IS A FRIGGIN MARSHALL !

  • @spudgun05 Yeah!!!

  • @spudgun05 a Metro plexi, with a cascaded pre-amp!!!

  • thanks for this video, doug aldriges video is giving this great amp a bad name, this sounds fantastic

  • great sound. is it possible to set a crunch sound on low range, then footswitch it to high range for heavy distortion??

  • Yes but there's a big difference in volume between the channels. It's impractical to use like that - better controlled by the guitar volume, as per the blurb.

Or use a boost like a tube screamer or something.

  • OH MY GOODIE GOSH!!!

    Lee with short hair!! hehe

    Really good :D Steph :)

  • good for death metal/grindcore/HxC tones ?

nice blues tones though ^^ should be nice with some lil' twangy tele ... or your prs ^^

  • sounds great even through the mesa boogie cab. marshall really nailed it with this one. metal sounds very chunky, and heavy! Next all you need is a les paul, congrats on the vintage modern purchase though.

  • this sounds really good. all the other vids i've seen this amps sounds so screaming and almost tearing my ears apart but this one was very good

  • Which version is this, the 2266 (50 watt) or the 2466?

  • if ur gonna play big gigs the2466 is best. for smaller gigs the 2266

  • Not necessarily true. I have the 2466 100 watt version, not THAT much louder (especially with 25 watt speakers) but has quite a bit more clean headroom....and what a beautiful clean tone it has!

  • i tried one of these with a '59 les paul and now

    i want one.

if you play the strings hard does it give off some overdrive and if you play soft is it clean?

  • its a tube amp

  • Yes, to some degree. It does clean up exceptionally well with the volume control on your guitar.

  • gr8 playin : )

gj and good stuff of coz ^^

  • When I tried a vintage modern at the store it sounded like crap no matter how I set it up. This one sounds good!

  • same here..

  • well thats marshall sounds like crap in the stores but set it up and wooooooooooooooow :O kickass neighbor crushing sound :P

  • how is that mesa cabinet???? your tone is fantastic

  • Hey bigdumface,I'm considering to buy a vintage modern but i don't know if buy 50 o 100 watt head.what do you think?and what's the exatly model of your mesa boogie cabinet?do you recomend 4x12 o 2x 12?thanks.

  • Sounds like the same old diddley widdley wank!

  • yeah, i agree tone very impressive. I like the playing also..........

  • First of all...Great playing, tasty stuff.

The amp makes your PRS really sing.

  • good job dude, u definately earned my respect

    2 thumbs up!

  • can you give us the settings of the knobs for your sound or approximate if you don't have em any more? that sound (and playing) is fantastic, and i'd love to try to tweak that sound out of my dsl50. it does the dirty semi-driven stuff well and the super heavy, but i'd love to get a good middle ground thing like you have. absolutely wonderful!

  • great job dude, thank you!

The VM is really a gr8 amp!

@peterm3964; STFU and make it better, fuckin' asshole...

  • t amo eres una verga

  • good demo man, nice variety

  • We're not in Iran are we now?

  • Thanks dude! I really appreciate it!

  • i think he tried to say 50

    nic eplaying

    conmgratulationss

what equalization are you using there?

  • Great tone man, the VM is certainly a hot amp, love those KT-66 "big cookers" too ;]

  • how many watt is is 500 or 100

  • 500???

  • killer man

  • can you tab that bit that was a bit like slap bass,it looked like it was in the key of a?

  • beautiful tone

  • Awesome playing man that seems like a real sweet versatile amp! I am jelous, I Want One!!!!!

  • does this amp make really HEAVY metal, or is it more of a blues-amp?

very good playing, seems to be a hell of a versetile amp...

  • it has really good modern high gain, hense the MODERN in Vintage Modern. its sweet

  • oh this amp can play anything you can think of all i play is metal and rock and it kills for the styles. you can play it strait through the amp and it gives a killer tone for metal.

  • you can play metal with jcm 2000,too??

  • What drivers are in that Mesa cab? I've been looking at this amp and a vintage 30 cab.

  • If your thinking of buying one of these amp's. at least test drive the VHT Deliverance along side it.You might be suprised. This is a very nice amp. But the Deliverance D-60&D-120 are insane amp's just a little more expencive.I have the D-120 w/PRS 513 Rosewood.Super tone man!!

  • what are the settings on, im really thinking of getting one of these

  • you know the LED for the mode. Which is which? IS the purple light the low range?? or the high??

  • blue is low, white is high.

  • hi i have the same amp but am having trouble with a solo boost while gigging. i had the boss ge-1 but the sound just more distorted with no real change in volume . i am looking for a true boost pedal any ideas anyone??? cheers.

  • You have to remove some leds from the chassis of the amp for an Eq to work properly in the fx loop.

  • sorry, i dont get it.

  • RAFFSTD, if you are looking for a clean boost, MXR makes a pedal called a Micro Amp. Pretty solid, no distortion. I had good results from it and it was pretty cheap.

  • Check out an Xotic BB Preamp. Basically it's a Tube Screamer with more gain if needed or it can clean your guitar up. It's insanely versatile.

  • Behringer PB100 cheap as chips.. I use one for solo's when gigging..

  • PRS fucking rocks

  • what is the speaker in your stack?celestion v30?

  • what was the body and detail set on??

  • Hi mate. I ws just wondering at what volume you have the amp set on and what you have detail and body on? Please and thanks!

  • awesome half stack check out mine in one of my videos.

  • Hey marsi84, your an idiot..

  • nice job demoing the tones of this amp! I like the KT 66 tube sound in this amp.

  • Great sound and playing dude ! I will buy one of these amps today . And it'a in part because of you. And it's nice to see that somebody else than me know the song Down On the Farm... lol Rock on !

  • yohnedrix

angus doesnt use gain AT ALL its all on the clean channel via a 100 watt JTM 45. He just pushes the volume until it breaks up and then uses his guitar volume as a distortion control. but if gain MUST be used keep it below 1'o clock.

As for the demo that amp is the sex :P

  • iamapirate5888, umm plexis dont have any channel, one channel, no clean or gain, and a jtm45 is only 40 watts, or 30, forgot. he also uses 1987x plexi, and 1959 slp plexi.

  • actually plexi's have 2 channels, a bright and normal channels, they are just not switchable.

  • Well, I think rockhard meant that there isn't two defined and different channels, like a two channel amp that has a clean and distortion channel.

  • beautiful clean! stunning completely. distortion wise, get a shitload of gain, and the thing will soar. great playing!

  • Nice demo & playing man.

I was trying to decide Bluesbreakers Combo, Plexi Reissue or Vintage Modern. I think this vid swung it.

  • plexi reissue owns every marshall and every amp...don't fall into the "new marshall" fashion...the VM is totally crap..

  • Yeah course it is mate.

    !

  • hes saying when you played back in black that you needed more gain. NOT that the amp doesnt have enough gain for ac/dc...

  • not enough gain for AC/DC!

  • Thats a silly comment.

    The gain wasnt on full.

  • man I really have to get one
