It's absolutely wonderful, but it's not a surprise for those who know Barenboïm's recording of the complete nocturnes (DGG). Thank you mugge62, but he did not play this after "Chopin's 3rd and 5th concertos", but after BEETHOVEN's 3rd and 5th concertos (Chopin composed only 2 concertos!).
@Tetrafonia Firstly, I would like to thank you, my friend Αλέκος, for having recommended this video.
Daniel Barenboim conducted an interpretation of the highest level, one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. The D flat, deep and intense, at 4:09, quoting the words of briarcliffbaron, is a surprising exclamation point, conceived by the great sensitivity of the virtuoso. The dialogue between the voices at the end is something so special, a real wonder!
My soul escapes and hovers whenever I hear this greatest of all Chopin Nocturnes. How profound and other worldly. What wonders a simple piano can do in the hands of a master with the depth of Barenboim. Thank you sir !

All of these non-Beethoven videos prove my point: Barenboim is good at anything - Debussy, Schubert, Chopin, Mozart, Haydn, Liszt, not only Beethoven!
This is a top-of-the-line interpretation. The tempo is just right. I've heard this one done too fast, and too slow . . . .he's right on the money here. And the big left hand note that he hits at 4:09 is one beautiful exclamation point. Many thanks for posting this.
@briarcliffbaron to me this exclamation point is to much... he seems a little overwhelmed by the task to come back to normality from that point on. well, its about what u prefer and its a breath taking interpretation. i think this piece is just so perfect for enabling everybody to play as desired and to express your own feelings. thats what music is for anyways...
Many thanks for your posting of this. But, I thought that mine is not that bad too. (I'd thought it was awful.) I had to prepare it in a week for my friend's birthday.
So grateful he was my "boss" for nine years in the great Chicago Symphony Orchestra.

@BrunoLien:
Thanks Bruno for commenting. And... Ofcourse it is after playing Beethovens 3rd and 5th. and not Chopin.
I have already corrected my wrong annotation. My uploads and playlist show Beethoven.
Thanks and and may I wish you a merry Christmas.

Splendid!!! The same highest level than Rubinstein (whose Barenboïm was a fan and a friend).

I couldn't believe this is better than Rubinstein, even better then the Buenos Aires concert on 8/19/2000.

Wow, this is some of the best playing I've heard from Barenboim. I'm not crazy about his "middle section", but he does some incredible things here.
