is it just my guitar?

when i put the capo on the first, it can't play the low E in which with the capo on the 1st, the F note.

I find it kinda hard to mute with my fretting fingers. My cheapo Yamaha F310 tends to buzz here and there, or maybe my skills are still cheapo (^^')

Anyway, is it recommendable for me to mute with my strumming hand instead?

Muting the strings with your palm is easier and sounds almost the same :)

I'm having trouble with the pick. It makes a horrible metallic sound when I play it with the pick, and when I try to strum, I always drop the pick. grrrr.....

@CelloMusic4ever hold our pick with at least 3 fingers, and do not put lot off portion of the pick too much to the string, just the tip, start to make a very light sound first then gradually increase the volume by putting a bit more portion of the pick to the strings. The volume and sound character of a guitar isn't determine by how strong you strum but how much portion of the pick you put to the string and where do you strum.
