  • This blows me away... I only see a space in front of me...and I'm moving...moving... my body is dancing and my smile is leading...

  • This song is completely different from the Laura Nyro music I have been listening to for the last week (essentially every song on You Tube). What a new dimension. It reminds me of Joni Mitchell's Hissing of Summer Lawns, but is not derivative of her style, if that makes sense. Another amazing feat of this wonderful artist.

  • I don't think any Actress or Singer should try to play her in a live action film, no one even comes close i.m.h.o. If they must do a bio movie, I'd prefer an animated one, kinda like "Persepolis", I really like that film. I think Eliza Jane Schneider could perhaps catch a bit of the essence of her speaking voice, and of course the songs would be DEFINITELY need to be the original recordings.

Ultimately tho, I just wish we had more footage of the REAL Laura!

  • Sorry everyone, I have only just found this video and comment thread. Is someone actually going to do a film about Laura or are just just discussing what it would/should be like. I'm not going to get too excited just in case!!

  • @atisaseret - Most films have actors play the musicians in question, not other musicians. In Laura's case, a good candidate would be Heather Matarazzo who looks like her.

  • @DaysOfBrokenArrows - While that's true, it would be better, in my opinion, if someone could actually Sing and Play Laura's composition - that in itself, is a pretty mean feat! While Heather (who's also a Long Island Native) looks a little like Laura, it would be preferable to someone who can not only Act, but do everything across the Board. I'll try to keep an Open Mind -

  • @atisaseret - Long Islander (I Live here) didn't mean that Laura Nyro is a Long Islander - she's from the Bronx. Sorry about the confusion.

  • IST SONGS>ELI>NY TENT..>GONNA TAKE A MIRICLE MASTERPEICES THEN ALL DOWNHILL

  • awesome tune. i'm just discovering it this evening!

  • @Agoateeman Awww I remember the first time I discovered this song. I found very nostalgic for some strange reasons.

  • this is an overlooked album. you should hear her "I am the Blues" on this album. I remember the Village Voice music critic saying when the album came out that only Laura Nyro could sing I am the blues. It is an amazing piece. Even more amazing when she sang it live.

  • @mervie2

I totally agree. Many people forget about this album. It has many gems.

  • The music of Laura Nyro is fantastic! More of this album please!

  • I've never heard this one before. Great LN song. Thank you for posting. Makes me miss the 70's so much.

  • I've heard that PJ Harvey might be a candidate. She's a singer from the UK.

Personally, I can't even begin to imagine anyone like Laura. She was so gifted and so far beyond and INCOMPARABLE.

  • @atisaseret

I think I was responsible for that suggestion 4 months ago :D

I agree with you that no single person could play her. I therefore suggest Polly Harvey, Amy Winehouse and Laura Marling to all play her in the same movie, as in the Dylan biopic "I'm Not There".

  • @SteveMorrisBala Wow, those dialect coaches would have their work cut out, I think.Have you actually heard Amy speak?

  • @candelise (I used to be SteveMorrisBala)

That's a very good point. My 3 choices are all British, Laura was half Italian, half Jewish-Russian with, presumably, a New York Bronx accent. Hmm. Let's call the whole thing off & just listen to her magical records. :)

  • @SteveMorrisBala personally I really don't think anyone can play Laura Nyro at this point. Amy Winehouse is out - as far as I'm concerned -she's NOTHING like Laura except for having Long, Dark Hair. Polly Harvey's songs are Dark mostly (which I like), but her style is very different from Nyro's. I do know someone who's played her on Broadway, and AT THE TIME, looked (and sounded a bit) like Laura - JUDY KUHN. Several Female Singers got together and did a Broadway Show called: ELI'S COMING..

  • @atisaseret I don't think that Amy Winehouse could ever play Laura Nyro - I'm friends with 2 people who were close friends of Laura's and knew her in a very personal way - and from their recollections, photos - I KNOW those people mentioned to play her cculd NEVER portray the REAL Laura Nyro. Pity

This is ANOTHER GREAT LAURA NYRO SONG - she is INCOMPARABLE!

  • @atisaseret I love Pj Harvey. Shes one of my favs. She was pretty big during the whole grunge scene.

  • @neverforeverkate I have to admit that I do like her myself, but I'm hung up on Laura Nyro - she's SO Incomparable.

  • @neverforeverkate @atisaseret - Most films have actors play the musicians in question, not other musicians. In Laura's case, a good candidate would be Heather Matarazzo who looks like her.

  • @DaysOfBrokenArrows I don't think Heather Matarazzo looks like Laura. This is just my opinion.

  • Oh, yes... :)

  • mmmmmmmmmmm . . . Laura's voice is as smoooooth as sex on a stick! She certainly was is) way out there ahead of the musical pack!

  • goddess

  • More than 40 years since I first heard her. Still the sweetest songbird in the meadow!!! Incomparable, Unequaled,

Simply the best of the best!!!

  • @aquamoon22 Totally !!!!!

  • After 40 years - Still the sweetest songbird in the meadow!!!

    Incomparable, Unequaled, Simply the BEST!!!

  • The more I listen to it the better I feel tonight.God Bless Laura...still healing my artist, creative, marginalized self

  • I love that song Sophia. I might upload it.

  • Just got a notice that the album this tune is on, Mother Spiritual will be re-issued in afew days.. check out Amazon.. cd was un available long time.. I cherish my copy.. and the original lp, too.

  • I can't think of anyone known that could play Laura. She was unique. She was totally unHollywood...Ya know...this is gonna sound crazy, but I think Amy Winehouse,if she was healthier, could do this some justice....maybe???????

  • I think you have a point. I think Laura was a prototype for artists like Amy. This is the first time I've heard this song, the title caught my eye. It's great! :-)

  • I dont think so just because nyro's voice is several keys higher then winehouse.

  • NO, NOT MAYBE!.. NOT AT ALL!!!!!!

  • Are you kidding or what. I like AW, but not even close.

  • Yes it sounds crazy because it IS CRAZY!!

  • I've never heard this one,and I'm a huge fan from back in the day...WOW!!!!A real treat.I love her sentiments on this one, particuliarly these days when so much seems unreal and disconnecting to whom anyone really is.

  • The effect she has on me is total and indescribable. No other singer/songwriter grabs me the way Laura does. Magic Time!

    I miss her.

  • yes , of course ,u and i are the both of us " free thinkers " ...and laura ...well...hey now !...check my favorites list....talk about ecclectic....! i know u got soul...

  • back at ya, fellow music lover...isn't Laura devastating?

  • Absolutely!

  • lol You're welcome.

  • She is so consistently great! she is missed, she could make her songs intricate and yet easy to listen to. ???? If their was a movie and it was done really good...who would you cast as Laura.

  • Hi, I am glad you're a fan of Laura as well. I don't know exactly who I would cast for Laura. Maybe Jennifer Connelly? They probably would have to cast an unknown.

  • Jennifer wold be great...

wish I could see her again...

the best EVER our dear Laura!
