Love this Song, It's also my aids life, after 27 years this past oct' - I had surgery today it's a painful and at times a very lonely disease - men pls play Safe(R). No DL! Peace out!
I love Coil. I have some songs with similar songs. And my song Wound Of The World and my other one Land's End are both in tribute. And so are so many others.
This song is probally one the most depressing and bleakest songs that there are. Not a bad thing at all, it's like being unable to wake from the darkest nightmare.
@PityOnThePawn : No, the pussycat dolls version is utter horsesh*t. Come on, like anyone would listen to those chicks if they weren't hot? Seriously, pop is cr*p music.
@inocookiemonster You can't compare Marilyn Manson's or Coil's or Soft Cell's or Gloria Jones' or even the Pussycat Dolls' versions of this song. They're all different, and they're all good in their own way. Manson's is heavy with a great beat, this is bleak and depressing, Soft Cell's is complete New Wave, Jones' is Motown and funky, and the Dolls' is a pop tune. Each has their own pros and cons. Incomparable.
@PityOnThePawn Yes you can compare them because they are different interpretations of the same song, if anything is comparable it is a variation on a theme. So stop being a nazi by telling us what we can and can't do.
@inocookiemonster marilyn version is not 80s u prick. these guys dont have a shit load of producers and editors and music editing software etc. so shut ur ugly face hole, since u know nothing from music anyway.
@cullyvan I don't know what you're trying to imply, but I think I can speak for many that even if the production methods are slightly outdated, the concept is still relevant and highly influential.
@cullyvan If you had watched the whole video through you would have noticed that all the profits went to the Terence Higgins Trust who provides counselling and information on A.I.D.S. So NOT just another money grabbing scheme.
@cullyvan wow ignorance. they did this for AIDS awareness and released it as an official AIDS benefit release. Research first, then talk. They donated 100% of proceeds to AIDS fundraisers. Clearly you know NOTHING about Coil. They were artists, not profiteers.
@Tw1st3dP00ki3 Kind of hard for me to explain things right now (you can guess why) so excuse me if I don't make any sense. What I was trying to say is that Coil is trying to portray a specific emotion, utter depression, which can come out of unrequited love.
Oops, meant to type "this version of the song" in my reply to Tw1st3dP00ki3, I am aware that the Soft Cell version was more focused on your basic bad relationship :)
@Tw1st3dP00ki3 Actually, this song is about someone dying from contracting HIV/AIDS from their lover. You'd be pretty effing sad if that happened to you, I'm sure D:
@onegirlbanned You're wrong. This song was originally written in 1964 by Gloria Jones well before AIDS/HIV existed. Soft Cell covered this song because the gay community was the first to succumb to these diseases. That was the reason this song was so popular in the Eighties.
@SickAmongThePure1 The reason because this song was so popular was because of it's bassline/melody. Saying it's because of HIV or gay shit is just craziness.
@WilliamAztech You're missing the point. You're right with regards to the original but this cover puts the lyrics and tone in a different light, giving it new meaning.
@err0r I wasn't referring to this cover, but to the Soft Cell version, which became the real hit. I was replying to someone who claimed the Soft Cell version was a hit because gay people were dying of Aids, which is nonsense.
@onegirlbanned CORRECTION:Tainted Love" is a song composed by Ed Cobb, formerly of The Four Preps, which was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965.
@onegirlbanned CORRECTION:Tainted Love" is a song composed by Ed Cobb, formerly of The Four Preps, which was originally recorded by Gloria Jones in 1965.
@Tw1st3dP00ki3 Never heard of this band? Not really surprised, but they're one of the most respected bands out there (in their genre). Peter Christopherson, the co-founder, was one of the godfathers of Industrial.
That said, they took the song and, I feel, made it fit the lyrics fucking perfectly showing how utter depressing unrequited love is.
@odenskrigare While the banality of your remark demonstrates juvenile thought processes, I would hope that you have the sense to know and understand that coprophagia will, in no way, make this song or this ridiculous musical ensemble palatable. Soft Cell FTW. Coil FAIL.
While the pretension of your remark demonstrates insecurity in the degree of your intellectual achievement, I would hope that you have the sense to know and understand that pomposity will, in no way, imbue your retort with anything even remotely resembling rhetorical sting. odenskrigare FTW. jgreen FAIL.
@odenskrigare While the haste of your reply demonstrates an evident compulsivity most likely related to the very same melancholic affect that permits your conscious to enjoy the baseness of this attempted cover, I would hope that you have the sense to understand that my retort was directed towards your desire for me to consume fecal matter, when you are, quite frankly, doing just that in your consumption of this pathetic attempt at music. I do not wish to sting you...rather move you past crap.
@odenskrigare That was fun, but now, I am bored. Good luck with your coprophilic pathologies. You might want to see someone about that. Over and out. Oh yeah, sorry, but I will not respond to you any longer. I actually have a job and need to work now. Have a nice day.
Shit! I found out only NOW that also Peter left us... too bad! Jhon & Peter were THE Coil, even if I respect Bill Breeze, Thighpaulsandra and all the others collaborators. Well, Coil is now history. Officially.Thank you for all you gave us!
After I got out of the hospital last year, during the awkward period when I was trying to decide how to integrate AIDS into the life I hoped I would still be able to lead, 'Tainted Love' was the piece of music I kept returning to again and again. Like all the best music, it drew out my sadness, confusion, and fear, the better for me to experience them fully so I could examine and learn how to deal with them.
I owe Sleazy and Jhonn a debt of gratitude that will now never be repaid.
@ShotgunDecoy Kill yourself. Seriously. You're worth nothing to the human race. Put a gun in your mouth, pull the trigger. If you have children, kill them too. We don't need you. We don't want you.

@milkwithcake "Scatology" is their first, and likely best album ever, though perhaps not for the faint of heart. It's incredibly eerie, but I love it ;)
most public friendly album is his final one, The Ape of Naples. Has the most traditional songs on it.. "Fire of the Mind" and "Going Up"(ironically enough that one is also the final song he recorded before dying) are two good ones..
you don't just throw shit on manson about his expensive set...after all each of these bands has their reasons, manson probably did the gothic-high school thing since this song was the soundtrack...., on the other hand coil has got its tone right too. may b it IS still a matter of opinion, may b u should be more open minded...by the way i do like both of them, but not every song of course.
'cause it's one of my favorite songs......not Coil, just "tainted love"...........

most public friendly album is his final one, The Ape of Naples.
