  • I always loved this song, haven't heard it in years! Thanks for posting it!

  • does anyone know where i can find the lyrics to this song?

  • If muslims made a song like this about Allah and Mohamed (which they do), it would be seen as violence-preaching propaganda.

    Christian hypocrisy.

  • @michaelwuzthere , I have to disagree with you on this one. I don't think that this would be seen as violence-preaching propaganda if were a song from any other religion (unless of course someone chose to ignore the lyrics) . One of the main points of this song is the nonviolent approach. Nobody in this story chooses to take up arms and fight. Instead they lay down their weapons and sing praises to god and then allow themselves to die instead of fighting while keeping their faith in their god.

  • I heard this story as a kid.

  • Awesome story. I havent heard this since I was a kid. Thanks for posting.

  • @glower125

Racism is forbidden in the Bible. (Galatians 3:28, Romans 2:11)

And as for any perceived ignorance on our part...well that's highly debatable, and unlikely as well. It's more likely that you simply disagree with what the Bible says and thus label it as "ignorance" instead of more properly labeling it as "another opinion."

    God rebuke you.

  • TO BE SOLDIER FOR CHRIST YOU NEED TO BE RACIST AND IGNORANT. YOU CAN BE DUMB AND UNEDUCATED AS WELL, THEY HELP TOO.

  • Thank you for posting this. Its still my favorite song. As a new christian in seminary I heard this countless times on KWFC in Springfield MO. Listening to it again now on the foreign field makes me want to serve Him even more.

  • To kizwiz6. Your are a sick disgusting person. You obviously worship someone else. He died for your sins just like mine. One day you will sit in front of the Almighty God and will have to answer to him. I hope your ready!

  • the example of christ is captured in this song where one submits to the aggression of the guilty in order to forgive

  • It deeply sadens me that so many have done horrible things in the name of Christ, and Continue to post horrible responses to non-believers in the name of Christ. This is what an unbelieveing world simply finds unbelieable (cant spell to save my Life) Our lives...as those who have recieved grace and forgivness of sins...HAVE NO RIGHT! to judge anyone. every video i go to thier is some "so called Christian" trying to play God on youtube. We are to speak the truth in LOVE!?!? so frusterating

  • @Lukelovesthelord nice DC Talk quote there. "The single greatest cause of atheism today is Christians who acknowledge Jesus with their lips, then walk out the door and deny Him by their lifestyle. That is what an unbelieving world simply finds unbelievable." -dc Talk

  • Dave4Leah,

This song was done in a limited version a few years back, I do not believe it is on the open market for purchase. I also have been looking for it.

I believe it came out about the same time as foxes book of martyrs did in the early/ mid ninetys (unsure of actual dates)

  • God bless you for posting this hard to find yet precious song with a golden message! Many thanks!

  • I have been looking for a cd with Don Francisco/Tom /Green performing this song for a Christmas gift. Any ideas where to find it?? Thanks-great message-lots of memories

  • The first time I saw/heard this was at camp. It is SOOOO moving

  • This was a very nice video. :) i liked it.

  • This song shows the uncompromising position that the Christian is suppose to take. The modern condition presents a paradox. The christian is not suppose to compromise but democracy and so freedom demands it. HAHAHAHAHAHAHA

  • Thanks for posting this. I used to play an old fuzzy "carted" copy of this at the local Christian radio station where I worked back in the 70's and 80's....very popular with the request call-in's...

  • Like so many others thank you for posting this song. I rember listening to this growing up too with my family. My mom had past on in 99 and when I heard this song so many good memories came back thank you again.

  • Time is short my brothers and sisters, the Lord Jesus is coming to bring us home soon..Amen.

  • I really enjoy this song it is encouragement to me, knowing the day we live

  • I to heard this song back in the 70's - to this day it is such an inspiration to me.

    God bless you all

    Dennis

  • Simply amazing!!! I just cant stop the tears, very powerful! Praise the Lord!

  • FINALLY I have been waiting for years to get this song so it could be shared online. There was one site that had it as a homepage but YOUTUBE has so much more exposure. Tom Green was a friend and brother in Christ and I heard him do this song the very first time in public it was breathe-taking not a sound but Tom and his guitar could be heard in that OperaHouse in NH. Tom is with Jesus now. Candy and kids if you see these think of you so often. Love in Jesus, Sandi

  • I remember listening to this song when I was a kid on WHCF 88.5 in Bangor Maine. This song means so much more now that I am living my life for Jesus.

  • Thank you so much for posting this. Tom was my uncle and it made me cry to hear his voice again tonight. He was a wonderful guy and I miss him every day.

  • God's blessing on you for posting - it is such an inspiration. Thank You.

  • Amen

  • Exellent story, never heard it before !

  • White people proclaiming to be "christians" has nothing to do with Christians, Have you read the Bible?

  • Like cliffw7 pointed out, just because someone says he is a Christian, does not make him one. And true Christians do not "hate non-christians" -- if we did, we would be worse than the "sinners" we'd hate -- we are to love "non-christians" because we all -- christian and non-christian are all trying to do the best we can on this earth. If I am to do anything for "non-christians," I am to show them the same grace and mercy God has shown me. I hope you can someday understand that.

  • It is sad that people, (white, brown, black...) have killed in the name of Christianity. Because someone takes something that is precious to so many and uses it to cause harm is sick and wrong, but it does not change the fact that the message is pure.

In response to your question. I have personally not killed anybody and I find your question somewhat offensive since I myself am an American Indian and hold my heritage very close to my heart.

  • none.

  • @redheadstepchyld find me 1 verse where The new testament instructs to kill non Christians. Stop talking shit & pretend to be all offended & righteous.

  • @Pitttdog Its responses like that that are causeing the posts by them, readd what 1john has to say on love, and what Christ has to say on compassion, or how bout let no unwholsome word proceed from your mouth. Let us speak the truth in love. Just wanted to point that out to ya brother

  • @redheadstepchyld Not everyone who calls themself a Christian...is a Christian. Christians will be known by thier love. I called myself a Christian for a long time just because my parents were. I thought I was a Christian long before I actually became one. Just some food for thought

  • @Lukelovesthelord thansk for the eloquent reply.

  • @redheadstepchyld the "Christians" killed the Indians..? or the American Government...? I am part Indian, and I believe it was the United States Government...

  • You can feel that this is a true story. Thanks for posting...I used to hear this in 1980 in Florida.

  • Amen.

  • I also had the great priviledge to travel with Tom and Candy for a summer, one of my favorite memories. Tom also performed my wedding ceremony 29 yrs ago. Tom and Candy were family to us. Thanks for being second parents to me.

  • When I was a child I got to travel with Tom and Candy Green while they sang all over New England and Canada. I would get goosebumps every time he say this song and I still today. Tom was the father I never had and I cherished the relationtionship I got to have with him and Candy. God was good to our family to send them to us.

  • One of the greatest songs I've ever heard. When the part where the jailer strips off his armor and runs out onto the ice to join the other 39 always makes the hair on the back of my neck stiffen. What love, what devotion, what bravery!!! Thank you for the great song. Love you Jesus.

  • Thanks Youtube,

I wanted this story for an illustration and didn't have any idea where to find it. Thank you ChicaBonita503 for posting it. I haven't heard this song for at least 15 years. I have never forgotten it and it has been a tune I sang to myself many times. Have a great day in the Lord.

    A Pastor in Newfoundland, Canada

  • This rarely gets ay radio play but I heard it on 790 am in Lebanon OR years and years ago. Only one dj ever played it. I would listen day after day hoping to hear it and every once in awhile..... !!!!!He'd play it. I thank the Lord for you tube so we can have this kind of music at any time. Awesome.

  • i heard this when i was 14 teen years old and had looked for over 30 years thank you for posting this,it had for ever changed my life.

  • I used to watch Tom on LightMusic, the christian video show he did when it was broadcast on EWTN several years ago. He always had a great personality and he always ended his show the same way...by looking into the camera and saying "God loves you and he has a wonderful plan for your life."

  • This song haunted me all my life. I didnt want to give God part of me. I wanted to give him ALL. And I finally did 9 years ago. I still think of that jailer out there after the others where gone ALONE. But he wasnt ALONE was he? Jesus said "I will never leave you nor forsake you" And he will never leave me. Ilove my LORD. Put me to the door

  • love this story. was looking for it a few months ago but it wasnt here

  • Thankyou, Thankyou for posting this!! I heard this song growing up on the radio (KVIP in Redding, CA) and always wanted a copy of it, could never find it. Did you put the video together for the song? I was looking at a video of Don Francisco with Tom Green, and out of curiousity looked for "40 brave.." Wow, Thanks again. Leah

  • I had spent a lot of time looking for this song and when I came across it a few weeks ago I decided to put some images to it and share it with my family. i was unaware Tom Green and Don Francisco did a song together. I really enjoyed Don Francisco's music while I was growing up.

  • Do you know that Tom passed away a few years ago. He needed a heart valve replacement, and didn't survive the operation. Died in New Zealand where he ahd moved to several years earlier. He was a very dear friend of mine.

  • @Dave4Leah I grew up in Redding. My parents listened to this as well and I have always remembered it. Brought tears to my eyes.

  • THanks for posting this! I was able to use it after teaching my son about early CHristian martyrs for home-schooling!! Cheers, bridget, tucson
